Yeah we got those signs most days and also housekeeping started calling us to see if we needed anything. So much for not being bothered 😉

Just make sure you see your room steward every couple days or security might track you down somewhere.

Actually, she sees me coming and going several times every day, and I've even told her I don't need anything but towels, which I steal from her cart when she's not around... She snuck in two mornings ago when I forgot to put up the sign when I went to breakfast.

Okay, I'm going to try and finish up the St Thomas chapter now. Where were we? Oh yeah, Ideal Roti Shop, for what would be THE BEST thing I've eaten this entire cruise, including the ship and Miami... I went for the boneless chicken roti with a side of hot sauce. ($16) and a bottle of water and also a Ting, since we're in the Islands...

As you can see the place is incredibly small, and doesn't even have a bathroom or anything, just a few barstools. It looks like most people just get their orders to go. I'm telling you this was the highlight of my entire week so far!

Once I was done with lunch, I headed back out to explore the area some more... No real plans in mind, and I surely am not in the market for jewelry, so I tried to find a shop, any shop that DIDN'T sell jewelry... I eventually stumbled across a place with African art, and they had some interesting tribal masks (which I collect) so I checked those out. The one I wanted he said was $200, but when I started walking towards the door it was all the sudden $100... I told him I'd give him $75 cash on the spot, and he packed it up for me. Now I have two masks that I have to try and get home in one piece...

So, now that I have these TWO masks, I needed to try and find a decent sturdy cardboard box to use as my "checked bag"... I'd already pre meditated this situation yesterday with the first one, and bought a roll of packing tape at the dollar store in San Juan... I was scouring the alleyways in search of boxes, but no luck. I decided to pop into some of the liquor stores there, and see if they would give me one. 

 

The first place I went claimed not to have any, even though there were thousands of bottles of liquor in the shelves. Where do you think that liquor comes from? BOXES, that's what...

 

I went to another place and kindly asked a guy, and he looked at me like I was speaking Chinese. I couldn't believe that there wasn't a single person in this town willing to give me what basically amounts to garbage...

 

I began looking in the alleys, and still couldn't find any. I decided to just start walking back towards the ship and hope for better luck near the port...

As you can see, I was exploring wayyy back in the neighborhoods away from all the tourists. Actually, I was still looking for a box at this point...

Once I'd made the long hot walk, I cut through the marina at Yaght Haven Grande, and found a public restroom, as I really needed to pee by now. When I was leaving the bathroom, I saw and old penny on the floor there, and decided to pick it up (with a paper towel, since it was on the floor of the bathroom)... I figured that this could be my "lucky penny", and maybe a box would "just appear"... 

 

Well, guess what happened next? I walked out of the bathroom, and there was a box lying in the alley on the way to the sidewalk... I picked it up, and was happily on my way back to the ship... 

 

Several minutes later I was back on board again, and took another shower to wash off the sweat of the day... 

 

It's getting to be about close to 3:00 now, and I don't have a single plan for the rest of the day... Actually, make that the rest of the cruise. I'm just going to play things by ear, and see what happens next...

I don't even know where I was even going with all that, but I DO want all y'all to know I appreciate EVERY SINGLE ONE of you here reading today as well as in the past. If I do ever write my"magnum opus" hopefully y'all will read it as well...

I would buy a book of photos from  your trips, including Brickell photos. I LOVE the Brickell photos.

The fridge in my room is cool but not exactly cold, so I went and retrieved a bucket of ice from the bar... Looks like it's gonna be a nice bottle of champagne this afternoon, and then who knows what...

 

Probably twenty pieces of ice ended up on the bathroom floor while I was trying to get it in there...
