Just to a local hotel.

Just call Uber or get a taxi. Same with going to the port. Ask him if he knows the port well. I did just see an UBER driver going the wrong way on a road at a terminal. Scary!

Book a hotel with an airport shuttle.

Some hotels are better than others on this.  Some now charge to/from airport as well, so do your homework ahead of time.

Yes, it depends on where the hotel is, but cab or uber woudl be best.

FYI - in the future, include more details in your subject line, like. Transfer from FLL to ___ hotel.

We have always just grabbed a taxi at the taxi stand. I find it to be least amount of brain damage. Easy, reliable, cheap.

Assuming they turn the meter on and don't rip you off...

How much was the Taxi and what area is your hotel in?

We took a taxi down to the Marriott on Hollywood Beach. I don’t remember the exact amount but it wasn’t an eye popper. It’s just so much easier and I’ve never had a cabbie try anything funny like not switching on the meter. They’ve all been very professional.

Good point. Sadly, this is a known issue at FLL as well as at Port Everglades, and is discussed frequently here on CC. Some taxi drivers are known to not turn on the meter then charge a flat rate. We fly in and out of Fort Lauderdale regularly, but it has only happened to us once. The charge when we arrived at FLL from the ship was about what the charge would have been PRE-TIP on a meter, so I just handed him the exact cash and didn't give him a tip. The solution, of course, is to confirm before getting in to the cab that he must use the meter, and don't get in if he refuses. Aside from that known problem, taxis between FLL and the port are easy, plentiful, and cheap.
