QTBabyNurse Posted February 27 #1 Share Posted February 27 Would you take a cruise on a ship in the month PRIOR to it going to drydock for refurbishment? If not, why not?
smokeybandit Posted February 27 #2 Share Posted February 27 Absolutely, and I have. It's not like the ship goes into drydock held together by duct tape and pipe cleaners. 5
firefly333 Posted February 27 #3 Share Posted February 27 I would if it was a date I wanted. I wouldn't even think twice about doing it.
neverbeenhere Posted February 27 #4 Share Posted February 27 Yes, If they were doing repairs at Portland, Oregon, I'd take that repositioning cruise, if I could. My transportation home would be relatively cheap.

smokeybandit Posted February 27 #6 Share Posted February 27 I think the first cruise after a dry dock is more of a risk since there can be dry dock delays.
birdofsong Posted February 27 #7 Share Posted February 27 I've done it. We took the Vision on a Baltic cruise before it was going to drydock and it was my favorite of all the cruises I've taken.

Sorry to add a second post. Every ship on Royal that I have been has had passenger routines interrupted by maintenance. Walks on the promenade outside decks have been short-circuited by signs indicating that the crew was doing maintenance which involved painting, sanding, lifeboat maintenance, etc. I have been detoured going to my cabin because they were replacing passageway rugs or possibly maintaining the plumbing by priming the drains with water to reduce any marine sanitation gas "toilet odors" to the landlubbers. This is a good thing and I appreciate it being done. Upgrades mean my next cruise is being cared for.
Tin can Posted February 27 #12 Share Posted February 27 Not exactly the same but we were on Splendour of the Seas last sailing before she was sold and experienced no difference at all. I can't imagine pre dry dock would be any different.
leaveitallbehind Posted February 27 #13 Share Posted February 27 (edited) Yes. I would be a bit more skeptical booking one the week it was supposed to be out, however. Edited February 27 by leaveitallbehind
