Rare Sailing12Away Posted March 5 #55 Share Posted March 5 Best entertainment we had that we still talk about to this day was on the Star. Band from the Philippians who had a huge cult following back home called Ice Bucket. They did rock covers from all decades covering things like Bon Jovi, Journey, Toto, Chili Peppers, Beatles, hair bands like Guns & Roses, and all sorts of stuff. They played in the small Bliss lounge and it was packed by the 3rd night when word got around. They moved them to the main theater one night, but we missed that notice and didn't get to see them. They would also play at sail away from ports of call around the main pool deck. But that's what we would love more of - a decent rock band. But one that has some flexibility in what they get to play. In speaking with them before/after shows, they were told a set list of songs to learn that they were told guests wanted to hear - but in talking to guests like us, they were learning otherwise. So corporate isn't always in synch with the demographics of the sailings. Had asked them what they would prefer to play if given the chance, and they said AC/DC. So one night when they were allowed to have a little wiggle room and asked the audience to pick their next song, we loudly yelled out Thunderstruck and they didn't miss a beat. Sure there's folks who want to hear a soft piano playing Sweet Caroline, and that's fine for open areas. But use those smaller venues for more targeted audiences. Not all 3000 guests will want to sit through a short set of 80's metal bands, but the 200 or so of us who do will have a blast filling out those smaller venues leaving more room for everyone else in their own little pockets.

Rare cruiser2015 Posted March 5 #57 Share Posted March 5 11 hours ago, UKstages said: it can if "paul" can't sing. invariably, out of the four beatles onboard certain NCl ships, there are a couple who look really good, but can't sing and a couple who look like andy williams and paul williams and can sing. by the way, as far as "the beatles" are concerned... for those who really think that NCL is going after "younger cruisers," that's a hell of a way to court them... with a tribute band of a group whose last concert was nearly 60 years ago! most younger cruisers don't know who the beatles are and are unfamiliar with most of their songs. if they really wanted to shift to catering to younger cruisers, they would produce a show called "swiftmania" (not taylor swift, but an incredible simulation). Well, on the Bliss last month, they were a thoroughly enjoyable group of fellows from Argentina. Saw them perform 3 or 4 times. Great fun. Their Ringo was leaving them at end of cruise. Better or worse? Don't know.

Rare graphicguy Posted March 5 #62 Share Posted March 5 Cavern Club and Syd's bands are among my favorite entertainment on ANY ship. The musicians are easily Broadway and Vegas caliber and their song menus appeal to a very broad swath of cruise guests, focused on their bread and butter demographic. Burn the Floor on Epic was OUTSTANDING. Not a disco fan, but DONNA on Prima was very well attended. Choir of Man on Escape and Encore is also one of the best shows at sea. I know past shows like Rock of Ages had some people walk out because it was "risqué". I thought it was tame, but some...well..... Blue Man Group I saw on my first Epic cruise. Fun. But, if you've seen it once, the repeat entertainment value just wasn't there. Saw Million Dollar Quartet twice. Would see it again if they ever bring it back. Saw the shows in Illusionarium. Fun. But, the whole dinner show concept on a ship just doesn't quite make it...especially given it was extra cost and the food was mediocre. Have said before, Price is Right was well attended and everyone seemed to have a good time. Is it something I'd attend again? I guess the prospect of being called up and winning a Corvette or a cruise would make me do it, given there are only a few hundred they can call on to play in the theater. Plus, there are some really naive and some really clueless people who played that game. I guess that's the draw, though...thinking you can outplay the others.

bkrickles1 Posted March 7 #66 Share Posted March 7 I was just perusing the Freestyle Dailies from the most recent Getaway sailing, which was a 10 day trip, and it was loaded with entertainment options. I'm doing this sailing in April, so I was very interested in the evening schedule as we are sun deck people and will be spending most of our days at Vibe or ashore. There's comedy, theater shows, shows in the Illusionarium, dueling pianos, Syd's and other music acts in several locations, theme parties, etc. Now, I understand that not everyone likes these forms of entertainment, but me and my girls do and we expect it to be fabulous! We had similar but different entertainment on Joy this past July and thoroughly enjoyed it too. I can't imagine ever being bored on our upcoming sailing. My wife enjoys going from venue to venue to see different acts and she'll be able to do that on Getaway. Happy Cruising!
Rare EllieinNJ Posted March 7 #67 Share Posted March 7 My next and probably last NCL cruise is the Prima in December because I had one CN left, two FCCs, round trip from NY and Donna Summer. complawyer Posted March 11 #68 Share Posted March 11 ellieinnj.. sorry dear, if youre getting pissed because they removed a show about a disco queen who has been dear for years, and a music genre that hit its prime over 40 years ago, maybe you should try and sell your cn, and cancel the dec cruise (that has truly disappointed you with a failure to show donna) and since you claim this will probably be your last ncl cruise, why not check into another cruise at another date. i have posted before, the show(s) offered on board is so low on my criteria list for booking, as to be almost non-existent and bkrickles1, you are 100% correct, beatles music is timeless, but having watched them on the ed sullivan show in 1964, you can only hear yeah!yeah!yeah! so many betimes before enough is enough. remember, i consider music by frank sinatra, tony bennet, dion and the belmonts, also timeless. if you're of a certain age, songs by the penquins, 5 satins, the flamingoes will also be timeless. last thought " it's got a good beat, easy to dance too, i'll give it a 75!" if you have no idea about any of these songs or vocal groups, you rightfully deserve Donna (lol) 1

Lol!! I don't know about enough is enough, but after seeing them in the Cavern Club over our last 3 sailings, we decided to sail Getaway to change it up. Cavern for Syd's! And I'm a big Sinatra fan. My father was a jazz musician and his best friend toured with Sinatra for many years as his percussionist. When my mom had some back surgery he got Sinatra's autograph for her. And Tony Bennett I love too. I saw him about 10 years ago (maybe more) at a smallish venue on LI and he was still great! BTW - favorite Sinatra album is Sinatra at the Sands Freaking awesome live set with Count Basie orchestra!

Rare luv2kroooz Posted March 11 #72 Share Posted March 11 I guess this has come full circle for us. We jumped ship from Carnival many years ago when they went to their Playlist Productions shows. We tried NCL and loved Blue Man, Priscella, etc. Now we are going back for our 2nd cruise on Carnival post pandemic. We've also done a Princess cruise post pandemic and only 1 on NCL that was a Transatlantic at a giveaway price. The playlist shows on Carnival are far better than Deal or No Deal, Press Your Luck and Wheel of Fortune. Plus, the dining room food on Carnival is decent, with complimentary Lobster, Filet Mignon, and Salmon.

Since when is it a crime to like ALL genres of music. I grew up in the late 50s loving doo wop, the 60s loving Barbra, Steve &Eydie plus Bandstand and the British Invasion, the 70s with Barry and Disco, the 80s dancing to Madonna, MJ, Cyndie and the long haired groups. You are not the judge and jury of what music to like on cruises. Stay on your own side of the bench.😄 3

This! Exactly this @UKstages. I’m on the Bliss now, the atrium “entertainment” could not be anymore annoying or a downgrade to the cruise experience. Image a nice resort screaming about trivia or deal or no deal, or Harry Potter or Suduko, or a “no chairs turned” entertainer in their lobby - would never happen. Cheapens the experience… more of whatever this is, is not better…
