"Live"  Majestic Princess, 33-Days, Apr 10th to May 12th, Sydney to Seattle (+6 Nights Sydney Pre-Cruise)

Recommended Posts

Tonight we had the last wine that we purchased in Sydney.  It was so-so, we rated the wine 86 points.  Very thin, not characteristic of a Cabernet Sauvignon.  One more bottle in our cellar, from New Zealand.

Captain just advised that we will be going under the Lions Gate Bridge at around 2 am.

Approximately 1,400 passengers will disembark tomorrow and 1,000 +/- new passengers will board for our 3-day run to Seattle.

What’s interesting is that the Grand, Ruby, and the HAL Noordam were all docked at the Vancouver pier on the west side of the Lions Gate Bridge on April 30 rather than at the other pier east of the bridge where you are headed.

I guess the “east” Vancouver port terminal was designed to handle larger ships like the Majestic and Ovation of the Seas, which appears to have to wait until around 2 am to cross under the bridge as well.

Vancouver only has one cruise pier in operation--the Canada Place.  Ballantyne Pier, still east of the Lion's Gate Bridge hasn't been in use for years.  I think your geography is off.  If in reference to the screenshot, the LGB isn't on the map.  That is the Iron Workers Bridge.  Radiance of the Seas was(is) there because it's undergoing unscheduled maintenance; it had propulsion issues in April 2024.

Ovation of the Seas has a delayed arrival into Vancouver on 05/09/24 because of a diversion to San Francisco due to a passenger medical emergency.  It was supposed to arrive the same time as the Majestic in the morning.

We heard 1000 disembarking and anywhere from 400 to 1400 embarking.  All numbers came from the cabin television.  We will have to wait and see.

I think Olivia got the numbers mixed up for her update.  I heard from Guest Servies about 1400 leaving, including crew, and 1000 joining.

Those were the numbers we were also given...

Our 40 day adventure has come to a close. We will be getting off here and flying back to Long Beach to spend time with our grandchildren. It was nice meeting you Raphael and Debbie and we look forward to seeing you again in Singapore. We will be arriving on the 10th. We might not qualify for the MTG luncheon but bartenders nominated me for the MTBS award ( Most Time on a Barstool ). They said they might even have my name engraved on it. It's been a fun trip. Looking forward to October. Aloha! Tim and Suzanne

Thank you so much for inviting us to follow along on your amazing journey! I hope you will do live reports on your future voyages as they are so enjoyable to read, although I know they are very time-consuming! Very much appreciated ~

Thank you!  To be honest, I almost didn't do a "Live" for this trip.  I was considering retiring from them.  I'm 50/50 on doing one for our October trip to the Far East.  We'll see...  🥺

Thanks for the clarity on all fronts. The reason we probably didn’t see the LGB both times heading out from Vancouver on Apr 3 and May 8 was because we went to dinner at 5 pm at the Crown Grill and cruised under the bridge while we were there. Darn! It would have been nice to take a picture. Maybe I’ll get up early on disembarkation day on May 22 and take a picture of the LGB then. 😁

@LACruiser88 Thank you for safely bringing Majestic Princess to the eastern Pacific.  I am getting excited to board her on June 2nd in Seattle and head up to Alaska.  I can't wait!  This was a great "live from"  I really appreciated it.

An interesting note, we just received a new mini-bar setup.  We didn't get one after the Sydney to Auckland leg.  🤷‍♂️

You probably have a second one coming as you're Elite in a suite right?  Maybe if they have a bottle of wine to your liking that might be a nice replacement for the second set up?

I enjoy your writing as well. I have learned a lot and hope you will continue to do "live" reports.

We will be on the Majestic in September for a quick (7-day) Alaska trip with friends and two grandsons.

Next up: Fort Lauderdale to Quebec City.

I look forward to your insights on the "repositioning cruise" that is ahead of you.  I can only imagine a future where I'll have 30+ days to take a long cruise.  But things can change.  I also never expected that I'd ever sail on Majestic.  We have an Alaska cruise scheduled on Majestic  for later on this summer.  I have followed some of the lore around the Majestic since she was commissioned and honestly thought her whole life would be spent in Asia and Oceania, never to serve on the west coast, and my chances of trying her out were pretty slim.  Well, that also changed.

We had a great day with our dear friend and Vancouver resident, Dena, today.  She showed us the highlights of North Vancouver and treated us to a fantastic lunch!
