Cruisetrekker Posted April 18 Author #3 Share Posted April 18 Will there be taxis at the pier ? Any idea of cost ?
RuthC Posted April 18 #4 Share Posted April 18 Define 'long'. I wouldn't have tried to walk it even when I could walk well. Other people wouldn't have trouble doing the distance. I don't remember whether or not there were taxies when I left the ship.
SeaMatesNYC Posted April 18 #5 Share Posted April 18 It’s about a 30 minute walk. Not sure about taxis but Uber is currently showing about $15 at today’s exchange rates. I imagine taxis would be more expensive but have no data to support this hypothesis other than experience with the two in other European cities (or Bolt instead of Uber in some countries). yerdua Posted April 19 #6 Share Posted April 19 We were in trondheim on a HAL Norway cruise last may. The ship provided shuttle buses to the center of town a few blocks from the cathedral for a nominal price round trip. It was either $10 or $15 pp on your ship board account. They also provided a street map. Shuttles ran regularly throughout the day.
StLouisCruisers Posted April 19 #7 Share Posted April 19 I agree about it being around 30 minutes walk from the cruise terminal to Nidaros Cathedral. I've done that twice myself. But don't miss seeing the Old Town Bridge (Gamle Bybro) and once across it walk one or two blocks to the bicycle lift, only one in the world. It's the second largest attraction in Trondheim. Here's a look at it on YouTube.
Taters Posted April 19 #8 Share Posted April 19 We took a public bus. If I remember correctly it the cost was about 3 euros for the day pass. There is a bus stop a couple of blocks from the pier.
doobieb Posted April 19 #9 Share Posted April 19 We have walked from the pier to the cathedral on two different Hurtigruten cruises. The walk was a great experience, full of local sights that we would not have wanted to miss. We popped into a grocery store to check out things on the way back, took pics of all the buildings along the way, thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We could have used public transportation, It was there and available, or a taxi or uber, but we might have missed something!
Fouremco Posted April 19 #10 Share Posted April 19 OP, just so you are aware, in addition to the regular cruise port, there is a tender port to the south west, further away from the cathedral. The itinerary for our Nieuw Statendam cruise showed the wrong port location for both Bergen and Trondheim, but as I often do, I'd checked directly with the port authority and received the correct information. In both cases, it made a change to our planning for the two ports. The walk to the cathedral from the cruise port is quite doable and is very pleasant. From the tender port, however, it's longer and not particularly enjoyable. However, the shuttle bus is available.
TRLD Posted April 19 #11 Share Posted April 19 from the cruise port google maps puts it as 2km and about 28 minutes walking.

Per the port authority, the calls for HAL ships for all of 2024 will be at the cruise pier, Quay 68 (Kai 68). MAVIP Posted April 19 #13 Share Posted April 19 First: print a map of Trondheim at www.Whatsinport.com. Leaving the terminal, walk straight on along the water till you cross the road (Brattorkaie?)parallel to the cruise quai. Somewhere to the right or left (sorry) is a bus stop (we stopped him in the middle of the road 😉). Bus 25 brings you to the center right in front of the office of the buscompany. From there quite regular transportation to the cathedral. I am so sorry that I cannot mention those busnumbers nor the normally low price. We could not pay that day with money nor with cards (digital systems.....and the drivers said: just sit down....it's OK). Public transport in Trondheim is very good. Trondheim is a very nice city, but if you would like to visit the surroundings: go with the tram at St Gustavsgate to Lian and back. At the office of the bus/tramcompany we bought tickets for a very nice 1,5 hour tour and paid NOK 22 per person). And I visited the cathedral and the other buildings once with a daughter and once with DH; absolutely worthwhile.
Cold traveler Posted April 21 #14 Share Posted April 21 It's approximately a 20 minute walk. You can take the 25-bus from Brattøra to Nidarosdomen, it costs 43 NOK if you buy the ticket in advance, 63 NOK if you pay on board the bus. If you are a group, it may be cheapest with a taxi or a bolt. A taxi will be around 250 NOK, a Bolt will be cheaper. For taxis Trøndertaxi and Norgestaxi are trusted companies. If you dock at Ila it will be a longer walk, and a more expensive taxi ride. I also reccomend a walk through Bakklandet if you have the opportunity https://visittrondheim.no/en/activities-attractions/neighbourhoods/bakklandet/

Sucellos Posted April 25 #16 Share Posted April 25 You can buy tickets in some of the convenience stores downtown. For a full list, look here: https://www.atb.no/en/ticket/ (Scroll down for "Retailers". For example "Narvesen Prinsenkrysset" which would be very close to the first tram stop "St. Olavs gate". Google maps will get you there or just ask any person you see downtown where "Prinsenkrysset" is). I would however recommend downloading the AtB app instead. (More info about the app on the same link above) You can set it to english language and buy your ticket on your phone. The same ticket will work for both the bus and the tram and if you plan to ride several times (3 or more) a 24 hour ticket might be better. Remember half price for seniors if you're within that demographic group. Welcome to Trondheim!

I am not bringing a phone so if I have time to take the tram I will stop at a convenience store. Thank you 😊
