Rare Sugar Magnolia Posted June 12 Author #455 Share Posted June 12 Deck 7 Casino and Skyline Bar Deck 7 Escape Theater For some shore excursions, we waited at Headliners for our groups to be called. For the majority of the shore excursions, we waited in the theater for our groups to be called. When your group is called, you walk down to the front of the theater and exit on the right where you collect your group number sticker and then proceed to the gangway. On this cruise I did not attend any of the shows in the theater. I was not interested in watching the Juggler who was on for three nights or the magician/mentalist who was on for two nights. I was also not interested in watching the Wheel of Fortune game show. That right there is already six out of ten nights when the theater entertainment did not appeal to me. Choir of Man performed on two nights but I have seen the show a few times so it was not a must do for me. On the first and last nights of the cruise, I spent the evenings organizing and catching up on emails so that I wouldn’t feel harried for the week ahead. Since this was such a port intensive cruise with early morning excursions virtually every day, I did not feel as though I missed out by not attending any of the shows. I did enjoy listening to the bands play at the Atrium, Headliners and Skyline Bar. And I always enjoy Syd Norman’s band but need to plan ahead if I want a seat at the Pour House. A friend just told me yesterday that he really enjoyed his first cruise on MSC. Entertainment and service were great. They had a hosted solo meetup every night. And to quote him: “NCL now has competition in my world.” 5

My only issue with MSC has been that they didn't seem to want solos on their ships. I have tried to price them out several times just to compare...the rate would show for two but when I went back to change it to one passenger, I would get a message that stated no cabins were available. Maybe they are changing their ways.

I booked my aunt with MSC using one of their "flash sales." There was no solo supplement and she was able to book a balcony room. Be sure you get their spam marketing emails to catch these. She mentioned it to me. I booked it for her. It was back in February and around $700 or $800 all-in for a week from NYC down to the Bahamas. Just did a look on their consumer site. Just over $1k for a September balcony from Port Canaveral: https://www.msccruisesusa.com/cruise-deals/flash-sale?page=1&pricetype=EZNB&sort=price-low Edited June 12 by cruiseny4life

But, it was a half ship charter with a group she was not a part of. The group was rowdy and loud. The second one (the one I mentioned above), she loved. She definitely enjoys the MSC experience. She comes from a diverse background (lived in Harlem for years, lived in France for two, lived in Japan for a few, and she speaks four languages). She enjoyed the entertainment, found plenty of good food, including the buffet, and thought the staff did a good job of being welcoming. Her room was comfortable and she appreciated the time at Ocean Cay.

Considering the dearth of choices from NCL out of MCT I would be a fool not to try MSC at least once.
Rare Sugar Magnolia Posted June 12 Author #464 Share Posted June 12 Deck 8 Cagney’s Steakhouse and Moderno Churrascaria Prime Meridian Bar On the night that I had a reservation for Cagney’s, I did not have the appetite to eat a large piece of meat, and as I child of parents who grew up hungry during the war, it pains me see anything go to waste. At the last minute I decided to switch my reservation to Moderno instead which is right next to Cagney’s. As a solo diner I was easily accommodated. Why was Moderno a better choice then Cagney’s, when we know that at a churrascaria they bring endless amounts of meats carved at your table? Because they have the best salad bar and all I wanted were two small pieces of the special Brazilian picanha cut of beef and some grilled pineapples. That’s all it takes to make me happy.

schmoopie17 Posted June 13 #468 Share Posted June 13 (edited) Good to hear the Moderno on the Escape is good. Never tried it but have it booked for September. So many divergent opinions on that place lately. Also booked Cagney's...with the same divergent opinions. Tobacco Road is our favorite Escape Bar (if you don't count the District). Great people-watching spot. I usually don't care for people, but I enjoy watching them (from a distance). Edited June 13 by schmoopie17

I did leave behind a Tweety Bird Pez dispenser for you to find on the Escape. I don't care much for people either, but I might have to compromise this weekend. 1

I need a hint as to where it might be hiding. Otherwise I'll have to scour the entire ship. By the way, the "Pez Dispenser" is one of the classic "Seinfeld" episodes.

Eagerly waiting for the official announcement, drum roll 😆😆😆 please ... The suspense, hurry and unwrap the surprise 😁 BTW, couldn't resist the CN DoubleUp & extra point promo, plus T.A. has free gratuities for 2 + "doubled" bonus prepaid Visa card (hedging against DSC going up, surely in 2025) - that's one less late winter Escape midship "secret" angled balcony. Yes, I just scored a big one on the Encore TA in December. NCL is pretty much paying me to sail on that one...angled balcony too.
