Marina Redo

I have followed a couple of threads about work done on Marina — we are sailing on Marina in November in Concierge.

Disappointed first no new bathrooms but I thought redone Public rooms and soft goods in cabins.  I’m hearing not much of anything except Horizons and the addition of pizza ovens at Waves and adding Aquamar.

How about the casino?  New carpet bedspreads etc in cabins?  Any info would be appreciated.  I’m on the edge.  When I booked everything was going to be done— taken away little by little.  Feel like I was misled.  Itinerary is nice but I don’t like the whole scenario.  And I hear about everything on cruise critic or Facebook. Not from Oceania.

We have taken a couple of Oceania sailings on Riviera.

I am on Marina for 25 nights starting in July. Have been following multiple FB groups and CC. Sounds like cabins other than PH may have gotten new curtains and that's about it. Also there are indications that public areas were refurbished, but would love to hear more about the extent that was done in addition to changes in Waves and addition to Aquamor.

Certainly seems to be turning out different than the first announcement last year by Oceania where it was to mirror Riviera. Then they swiveled to only soft refurbishments below PH. That announcement btw, came out right after final payment for the first sailing. Now it appears that cabins below PH have lovely new curtains (sarcasm),and maybe a bench with new fabric….that doesn’t match the couch…..  disappointing at best. We were originally booked on the current sailing. We had looked forward to a refurbished ship, as had others.

I think with the success of Aquamar and the evening pizza in Waves on Visa, they decided to redo those public areas instead of the extensive refurbish of the other cabins...,choice of where to spend time and $$$$...those refurbishments were not part of the original plan.  Riviera does not have those.....

I had forgotten about the timing right after final payment was due.  Disappointed

I'm curious. Was there a single, aesthetic thing that actually needed changing or are people just wanting changes for the sake of changes. Are there things that are showing wear that aren't being dealt with?  I see discussions here about those who are port oriented and those ocean. But it seems like decor for the decor's sake is something that some people get cranky about. ?

Oceania must have thought a redo was necessary or they wouldn’t have said it was going to be done in the first place.

It is the last ship to be refurbished.

Oh sorry. I wasn't asking about O's motive or plans but rather passengers' upset. Is there something wrong with it?

Ok. I’ll try and help.

We are in a Concierge cabin. The runner on the bed had been replaced with a new one but the same pattern as the original. The curtains are new as are the blackout curtains. The cushions have been recovered in the same material as the runner. The dressing table chair has been recovered in a matching material, same colour way different pattern. These changes make the sofa look shabby!  It sure about the carpet but looks fine to me.

Public areas: GDR lovely new carpet cream with flowers. Martinis new carpets and possible new sofas. First time on Marina but several times on Riviera. Last trip on Riviera penultimate before refit, October 22 so difficult to remember.

Apart from the dark wood still in the cabins I think the ship is looking ‘refreshed’.

Aquamar is a lovely new addition but has a limited menu. The photos portray the area as it really is: one part normal tables and chairs close to the windows and the other in the ‘kitchen’, a long high table and bar type stools for communal eating.

Waves doesn’t look any different to me.

Overall the ship had been ‘refreshed’ rather than having a ‘refit’.

Having been on Vista, I was excited that refit of Marina included refitting the bathroom. On Vista, I liked the big shower and storage drawers in the bathroom. Marina bathrooms haven’t been changed. Still have tubs. In a veranda cabin.  Carpeting looks new. It is shedding.  Aside from that, nothing looks new.  Cabin could use some maintenance.  Several bulbs are burned out, sink and shower drains too slow, sofa is worn in spots, etc.  we asked to have the above repaired. So far, one light in shower was replaced.
waves has expanded its table area.  There is now table service instead of waiting in line to order.  It sounds better. However, in reality it slows things down.  Ice cream stand got moved onto the pool deck.  Aquamar is on Marina.  It is similar to Vista.

We were on Riviera last summer and loved the bathroom.  I guess that is the disappointment for us.  As for pizza oven ... well, pizza is something we can get here anytime, any place.  We were thought the Marina was going to mirror Riviera.  It really is not a big deal for us, but having always sailed the R ships until last summer, we thought Marina and Riviera would be the same.  All that being said, looking forward to our cruise in July!

Actually Riviera does have the evening pizza at Waves Grill.

Can anybody currently on Marina in a PH confirm that in fact those cabins were totally redone. We are sailing in June and may move up from regular balcony cabin. Thanks.

See post #2 above.  Perhaps you can find the video that someone staying in a PH on the current voyage had posted. I was able to find it yesterday but for the life of me can’t locate it since I watched it yesterday. But….per the video the PH had been completely refurbished including the updated bathroom with the large shower and corner storage unit similar to the Vista verandah staterooms. It looked really nice.

I just looked at it. We can't put a link to FB, but it's there.

We have a couple of weeks before final payment for a November cruise on Marina. Because we got a very good rate on a B3 extended balcony (now classified as an A2 Concierge level balcony), and because our itinerary is hitting two ports new to us (Guadeloupe and Tortola) we are going to keep the reservation. Otherwise, we would have canceled. We also like Aquamar Kitchen on Vista very much and look forward to that on Marina. We have Allura scheduled and will confine future bookings to Vista, Allura, and Riviera. Marina's staterooms are very dated and I don't think the escalating fares justify staying in an old room. The R-class ships are also an option depending on itinerary.

Did they update the wifi to starlink?  If so how is it?

Looks like they did. Lots of square topped ‘poles’ above Horizons which I just noticed today!

On Marina now. I am disappointed that our cabin hasn’t been updated.  Still have the tub and small shower. However, the ship is still good.  Having a great time.
