cruisegal415 Posted May 30 #1 Share Posted May 30 We are returning from a cruise and looking for a place to stay for one night in Rome. Our flight out the next morning is at 10:30. The Hilton Garden Inn in Rome is 10 minutes from the airport, and offers free shuttles, but if we stay there, we'd have to pay about $100 in cab fare (RT) to go in to Rome for the day. Hilton Rome is located in the terminal, it says, does not offer a shuttle, but is a 10 minute walk to the terminal, according to their website. However, they offer a free shuttle from the hotel to downtown Rome, which would save us about $100. Our concern is, we are not youngsters and do not travel "light." Each of us will have one large suitcase, one carry on and one personal item. Does anyone know if the ten minute walk from the Hilton (not the Hilton Garden Inn) is do-able? Are there suitcase trollies available to use? Is it a straight ten minute walk, or will we have to navigate steps? Alternatively, if we opt to stay at the Hilton Garden Inn, which does not offer free shuttle service to downtown Rome, is the train station nearby?
Rare cruisemom42 Posted May 30 #2 Share Posted May 30 Are you sure that the Hilton has returned to offering their shuttle? They discontinued it during Covid and I see no mention of it on their website any longer. From either the Hilton or the Hilton Garden Inn you can go back to the airport and take the train into Rome inexpensively.
CruiserBruce Posted May 30 #3 Share Posted May 30 The walk from the Hitlon is quite doable. I agree, take the train. Much easier than taxi.
Northern Aurora Posted May 30 #4 Share Posted May 30 We never have stayed at the Rome Garden Inn, but have stayed at the Rome Hilton located at the airport. In 2019 the Hilton airport location did indeed have a free shuttle from the hotel to a central location in Rome. We stayed there again in October, 2023 and the shuttle service has indeed been discontinued. But it is easy to return to the airport and take a train. Walking from the airport to the hotel property, look for the signage. You will take an elevator up one story and then follow the signs through the various parking garages to the end of the walkway. There take an elevator down to the ground level. Walk straight ahead, and there is the hotel right in front of you. Folks do push luggage trollies from the airport to the hotel, and the hotel keeps some on the property for folks to use when going to the airport. The walk from the airport to the Hilton airport property does take about ten minutes. No stairs are involved. 1

There is also a Hilton Garden Inn at the airport. I am sure you noticed this, but this is just a 'nudge' to be careful when booking.😉

BM64 Posted June 3 #9 Share Posted June 3 We stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn at the airport over the weekend. The shuttle bus is easy to get outside terminal 3 and drops you at the front door of the hotel. This was by far the best stay we have ever had at a Hilton Garden Inn. The front desk staff were so knowledgable and friendly. The breakfast buffet was well presented, plentiful and delicious. It’s a perfect choice for a stay before an early morning flight. The girl at the desk recommended a restaurant in Fiumicino. It was 25 euros to get there by taxi but well worth the money. The restaurant was located along the canal with nice water views. The canal was a very pleasant place to take a walk and have a drink. We wouldn’t hesitate to book this hotel again. The next morning jumped on the shuttle bus and went to the airport in under 10 minutes.

We are planning to do this when we disembark, drop off our bags and spend the rest of the day in Rome. Early morning flight the next morning. BM64 Posted June 5 #11 Share Posted June 5 No, we had been in Tuscany took the train to Rome and then the train to the airport. Sorry, I can’t answer your question.
