The Fleet Report and Daily for Monday June 3rd, 2024

Recommended Posts

Thank you Rich, thank you Debbie, thank you Vanessa, thank you Ann, and thank you Dixie for all your work.  And thank you everyone for being here!

We visited Ajaccio, Corsica in 2019 while onboard the Nieuw Statendam the first time. We were supposed to call on Monaco that day but the seas were too rough for tendering. The captain made arrangements to visit Ajaccio instead.

It is a very historical port in European history. Napoleane di Buonaparte was born here in 1769. His home where he grew up still stands in the Old Town area and is now a museum. We rode the HOHO bus through the area and then ate lunch at a local pizzeria and tried Pastis for the first time. Then we walked through the town square before returning to the ship.

Stay Safe, and prayers for those in need.

- Jack

Good afternoon from a cloudy and humid central Texas.  Our rain which was supposed to start at 3pm has not arrived.  No telling if or when we'll get rain.  At least, I got everything back in it's place in the port.  I did switch some things from one cabinet to another, and I bet it will take me a while to remember where I put them.  After resting a bit, I washed the cars and put the covers back on them.  That is the end of the major chores.  Tomorrow will be an easier day with laundry and grocery shopping.  Wednesday, the house will be cleaned.  There's nothing planned for Thursday yet, but hopefully we'll get the windshield replaced, finally.  The one they ordered after the failed attempt to replace it at the house, was cracked.  It has taken a while to find another windshield.  We have an appointment for Friday morning, but I'm not sure it they will have the windshield by then.  That's what happens when you have a 22 year old Land Rover.  It takes a while to get parts.

Good morning, Dailyites!  Pat has gone off to golf this morning, although we are expecting rain and it looks windy right now.  He doesn't like golfing in the rain so I will expect him home if it starts.  Yesterday it drizzled all day.  My lettuce is starting to bolt and the radishes have stopped making nice big fruit, just mingy red roots.

Annie, I do wish you could post some pictures of the kittens - you tell such lovely stories about them, I want to see them!  Oh, oh, Terri, hope all goes smoothly with your travels.  Terry, I think you and Tana are amazing.  Jacqui, I'm sorry I missed your birthday, that was also Pat's 88th, hope you had a happy day, and that your foot is improving.  Also Joy's foot - is it contagious?

I haven't heard anything yet about surgery, but I see on my Health Gateway app that I am now an outpatient at the Cancer Centre - in Vancouver.  I hope that is just a typo!  Or maybe we'll do it all by zoom...  Famous last words, I just had a call for a surgical consult on June 25, I guess it's here in Victoria!

Ann, I'm glad you have a surgical consult scheduled for June 25, Ann.  I hope the surgeon says a lumpectomy is all that is needed.

Talking about choirs , I was a very proud choir boy for a number of years as a member of the Young Sailors Choir of  The Hague , Het Haags Matrozenkoor !.  I am also in this picture , let me know if you have found me a young Tony here in front off the “Peace Palace “ about 63 years ago ……. We have sung all through The Netherlands on radio and TV , in the Notre Dame of Paris , the Liebfraue Kirche in Munich , in Brussels and also for Queen Juliana and Princes Beatrix over about 6 years A cappella  and also with large orchestras , like for instance The Matheus Passion and Carmina Burana .

This was an important part of my youth my upbringing , I started at about 6 years old and hung in there for a long time.

Tony 😍

Tony, I couldn't pick you out either.  Great story about your youth.

In April 2019 while on the Prinsendam we were in Ajaccio and we had a wonderful tour with four others going through this gorgeous area just North of Ajaccio . We have not seen many landscapes and rock formations like this anywhere else.

Tony, I always like seeing unusual rock formations.  I noticed the heart shaped hole immediately.  I've never seen on like that before.  Great pictures of the group at dinner.

Thank you so much sister mine! I know, coming up on 70... I should not be doing ALOT of things I still think I'm capable of..

I decided to stop by the clinic this morning. My ankle was still oozing looking red and orange. I have a deep hole and it looked weird. That's because it is on the bone. No stitches, but I'm taking antibiotics for the next week. Given a pressure pad and I should be back to 100% soon!

Love you sister a bunch!!

Joy, I'm glad you had the foot looked at, and I hope it heals quickly.  Just because you are nearing 70 doesn't mean you still can't do a lot of things.  I'm 77 and still do almost everything I've been doing for years, except things on a high ladder now.  Granted, it sometimes takes me longer to get things done.  I figure if I stop doing them, I might not be able to do things in the future.  The main thing is, I listen to my body more now.

Awesome story and pic in sailors uniform in front of that impressive Peace Palace and no, I can't pick you out! 🤪

My mum played piano and sang in the Dutch radio choir before and after the war alongside Herman Emmink (later a pretty well known radio and TV personality in the Netherlands). I made it to trumpet player in my youth in Amsterdam, Holland, but that was about it! 🙃

I have been trying to keep up with the daily postings but haven't felt up to posting myself. I have Covid (again) and allthough I am obviously recovering I still have no energy or stamina. Am I the only one who hates the aftertaste of Paxlovid?

My son who was forced to medically retire was hoping to get moved here by the end of last month but that obviously didn't happen. He developed cellulitis and spent 5 days in the hospital. His feet are still swollen and painful but he said last night that he was able to get a little bit of cleaning done. His goal now is to get moved buy the end of this month.

I have not been to today's port and am certainly enjoying the beautiful photos. @marshhawk I also would love to see photos of the kitties.

@kazuI am glad you are able to get some of your gardening done. I was surely hoping to read that you were fully recovered or if not at least well on your way. For the past year or more it seems that if it weren't for bad luck you wouldn't have any luck at all. @grapau27I am glad that you and Pauline are recovered and out and about. @smitty34877I can't say how much I admire and respect you and especially Tana throughout all the troubles.

Jane

Jane, I'm sorry you have Covid again.  I hope your recovery goes smoothly.  I'm sorry your DS developed cellulitis.  I hope his recovery continues smoothly, and he can make the move at the end of the month.

@lazey1Jane, I am sorry about the Covid and I think the aftertaste from paxlovid is quite awful.

Thank you for your nice words. I feel we are doing what all families do if they possibly can. We are trying to help the teenager at this terrible time and I think we do. I am grateful that other family members and friends are lending a hand as we are all in a state of fatigue now.
Thanks to everyone for their words of support and prayers. You help more than you will ever know.

Terry, I know this is taking a toll on everyone, and I'm glad the teenager is getting the support he needs.  Growing up with a sick parent is never easy, but his situation is doubly sad and difficult.  HUGS to the entire family including the extended family and all of the friends that are helping too.

Sadly many of the wines you highlight aren't available here in our restrictive state run wine & spirits stores. And until recently you couldn't even get wines shipped to PA.

😖 I have an online friend who has a similar problem,  He lives in Kentucky, but he has a friend who lives across the border in Indiana and can get some wines shipped there.

Back from shopping. You might remember that I had bok choy left, which led me to buy tofu for a stir-fry. Now I have tofu left, so today I was buying beet and turnip greens for another stir-fry. Tofu that remains will be used some other way. The greens have small beets and turnips attached, which will be pickled (separately). I also bought a head of red leaf lettuce and will use some of it tonight.

I occasionally notice where some of the local wineries can ship. Many can't ship to Alaska, Arkansas, Delaware, Hawaii, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, or Utah. There are some other states that they can ship to only through an intermediary such as Vinoshipper. Indiana, BTW, is such a state.

Good evening from Jacksonville,  We made it this far.

We had some confusion before we left home, but finally everything was packed and ready to go.

We left at 2;15 and arrived here about 4:30.

We had dinner at the Outback.  Good Sirloin Steaks with a salad and baked potato.  Just enough.

Tomorrow morning we get an early start.  We have to get up at 4:30 am and get the 5:30am shuttle to the airport.  We will have breakfast in the lounge and then get the 7:55 am AA flight to Miami.  We have about a 1 hour connection before we get the 10:25 flight to Barbados arriving @2:20pm or thereabouts.

We have a car ordered and fast track service through customs and immigration.  We are all set.

Since we have such a short connection we have some clothes in our carryons in case our luggage doesn’t make the connection.

Thanks for all your prayers and concern.  I am grateful.

Early to bed tonight so that we can be on our way on time tomorrow.

Good night and God Bless,

Terri
