Southampton Cruise Port

Recommended Posts

Hi, thinking about booking an itinerary the embarks from Southampton Cruise port. What is the best way to get to the port from the airport? Any recommendations on what to do if I stayed a day or two early?

... the airport ...

The answers to this will depend on which airport you mean. There's a choice of at least Southampton airport, London Heathrow airport, or London Gatwick airport. I suspect that Heathrow is the most frequent suspect for Southampton cruises.

We took the National Coach bus from Heathrow to Southampton.

We flew in 2 days before the cruise.  Took the train to Bath for the day. The city of Bath offers a free 2.5 hour walking tour. Google..?  The Mayor of Bath's Honorary Guides. Great day.

For Heathrow (LHR) https://www.nationalexpress.com/en bus from Southampton coach station, 2 hrs & about £20 pp., important to book early.

By train isn't a sensible option for this journey.

A pre-booked private transfer sedan will cost £145 - £160

For Gatwick (LGW) https://www.nationalrail.co.uk/ from Southampton Central station to the airport, about 2 hrs, one easy train change, from as little as £7 for Advance tickets. Ask here for more details if considering the train to Gatwick.

By National Express bus isn't a sensible option for this journey.

A pre-booked private transfer sedan will cost £150 to £170

Cruise lines offer their own coach transfers to both LHR & LGW.

Arrival / sailing day only

(my usual fault - I don't double-check question 🙄)

And that is the reason when we cruised from Southampton last summer and visited London for a day, we chose a hotel by the airport, Heathrow in our case. That way we did not have to schlep our luggage into London and were able to just go back to the airport the next morning to get our NCL transfer bus.

Thank you! I booked my flight thru the cruiseline so haven't a clue what will be booked. I'm assuming it will be LHR but you never know.
