question about gem and cigarette smoke for an asthmatic...

Hi Everyone,

 

I was wondering if anyone knew if the casino designated smoking room has doors that close to keep the smoke in. I'm an asthmatic and so is my friend. My friend wants to go on the cruise in May called "Chefs Making Waves" that has all the celebrity chefs cooking on it. We need to know if the whole ship is smokey or is it just near the casino?

Chefs Making Waves sounds fun!

 

There is no "smoking casino" space that I know of. 

 

Deck 6 does not have much going on. And if you use the aft elevators, you can avoid going directly through the casino.

It has been awhile, but NCL usually has smoking section Port side by pool.

This was the smoking section on our last cruise, in front of the bar that overlooked the pool. We don’t smoke but spent some time there because it was a great location.

Just off the Gem.  There is smoking throughout the casino.  There is also smoking on the deck above the pool area near the bar.  There is also an enclosed Cigar Lounge near the martini bar.  There was no smoking area on the actual pool deck.

The Gem is one of our favorite ships and we've sailed on her many times.  I hate being around cigarette smoke and that's not an issue on the Gem, unless you are in the casino or around the limited outdoor areas where smoking is permitted.

 

And specifically about the casino, I'm not aware of any "designated smoking room" in it, but the design is unlike that on the Breakaway, where the smoke in the casino wafts into large common areas outside the casino.  Just terribly designed on the Breakaway.  Not an issue on the Gem.

Avoid deck 6 as much as you can. I found even the forward elevator area smelled like smoke but the meeting rooms were fine. The lounge area of magnums can occasionally smell like smoke from the cigar lounge. Other than that just avoid the outdoor smoking area.

I was on the Gem last week. The library smelled of smoke for some reason. Not sure if it had another use at some point, but it no doubt smelled of smoke.

Possibly someone had been smoking in there although they should not have been.

I’ll say it: some people who smoke reek and the scent travels with them in their clothes.
