We will be at a BBQ this afternoon. Joey Chestnut will not compete at Nathan's hot dog eating contest because he signed an endorsement deal with Impossible Foods, a brand that sells meat substitutes. Competitive eaters at the Nathan's contest cannot endorse hot dogs other than Nathan's, which sponsors the contest on the Fourth.

Thank you for the pictures of Gibraltar.  I am looking forward to our visit there in 2025 with many from the Daily.

I did reply to the “other” thread.  I tried to help a new HAL cruiser who seemed very worried about her upcoming cruise because of the thread.  She seemed grateful.

Chickpea water?

This is aquafaba; when the liquid from a can of beans is whipped, it resembles egg whites.  Since many do not like raw egg in their drink , it is a common substitute.

Sending positivity to all.  Cheers!

Good morning, everyone!

It is going to be a hot 4th here in mid-Michigan, if you can believe the forecast.  The meteorologists here have really been struggling the past few days.  Yesterday was supposed to be rain, but it cleared up and we had the abundant sunshine we were supposed to have on Tuesday.

We are meeting DB Bill and DB Jeff for breakfast this morning and then going to a cookout at DN Kourtney's this afternoon.  DN Lizzy will be there with her new baby so we'll get to meet Addie.

Today's meal is one I will pass on.  My DS Barb loves black bean burgers, but I think they resemble hockey pucks.  I want a real burger.  The bean burgers also tend to be high in carbs.  Black Bean Burger

blackbeanburgers1.thumb.jpg.b74c16dcc29347670ef997c6d7d71ead.jpg

It looks good, but so do fast food hamburgers in the ads.  Here's another version.  Salsa Bean Burger

blackbeanburgers2.jpg.1ba7cf80f577c8b2a2f297e9c58acf12.jpg

This last one uses oats and whole wheat flour as binders.   Bean Burgers

Wishing you all a wonderful day and happy 4th!

Well, DH finally got me to try a hot dog at the Dive In for lunch.  I got it plain with mustard on the side since I don't slather it on.  It was good!  It was my first ever Dive In hot dog on International Hot Dog Eating Day!

The Captain made an announcement that the tender dock was inoperable and they had ceased tender operations temporarily while the harbor master figured out a solution.  About 15 minutes later an announcement was made that they had figured out where the tenders could dock and operations were back on.

I’ll pass on the meal and drink suggestions.

Today we’ll spend the morning at our new house assessing what needs to be done an the going to a matinee play at the Ogunquit Playhouse and then dinner.

Good Morning from a very warm day at the beach

Bright blue skies and no wind. Feel like temps are expected to be 110.

Happy Independence Day to all my American friends. A very important day in our history.

I do enjoy country music. I like hot dogs. Gibralter is on our WC itinerary so thanks Sandi for the pictures.

I am following Sandi @StLouisCruisers experiences. As we will be getting on the Zuiderdam for the VOV as she gets off. From hearing about the temps, I am glad I made a few purchases from LL Bean for cool weather.

We dont have any plans for today. We decided to just stay home and relax. Although I certainly have enough to do to keep me busy.

Stay safe and enjoy today

Thank you Graham.  Yes, unfortunately he died on July 4th which dampens our spirits each year for the holiday.  Due to his service during WWII in Europe and Japan, when I ordered flowers for his funeral we got all white flowers with small American flags inserted into the arrangement. After the burial we took the flags out and kept them and I still use them to decorate on patriotic holidays.  I wish I'd thought to bring one or more with me on the cruise just to honor him this day.

Happy 4th of July to all the American Dailyites.  Good morning from a mostly sunny central Texas.  It is 80F and feels like 87F.  We have a 7mph wind with 88% humidity and a dew point of 76F.  It will be another hot day today with a predicted high of 101F.  This morning I'll be putting the baked beans together so they're ready to be warmed for dinner, and I'll also be making a cake for desert.

We'll celebrate National Barbeque Day by smoking a rack of baby back ribs.  True barbeque is meat smoked over wood, but I'll cheat and used the electric smoker with cherry wood in the wood box.  We're not big country music fans, but there are some country music songs I like.  With country music you usually get a good beat and words you can understand.  In all honesty, I avoid watching hot dog eating contests.

A funny quote from Paula Poundstone.

The meal might be good for our vegetarians in the family, but give me a burger with beef.  We'll pass on the drink, but the wine sounds nice.

We've been to Gibraltar several times beginning in 2002 on Noordam III.

July 4, 1776, was a great day in our history when the Continental Congress proclaimed our independence from England, which made it a not so good day for England.

@summer slope  Dixie, I'm glad things are set for the implant procedure later this year.  Thanks for the information on stock perks.

@StLouisCruisers  Sandi, I hope your wonderful memories of your dad make this day an easier day.

@cat shepard  Ann, thanks for the update on your sister.  I'm glad she is doing much better.

@dfish  Debbie, enjoy your breakfast with your brothers, and the cookout with your nieces.  Do we get a picture of Addie later?

Good Thursday Morning Dailyites! The heat index for our area today is 109 degrees. Right now it is 78 and it says sunny, but it is very hazy...

I was googling news the other day when I saw an article that attracted my attention.  BEST BBQ CHEFS CHOOSE BEST  BBQ SAUCE.  So I read the article.  They said that the best sauce was from a company called Lillie's.  And as I strolled the Krogers the other day, I found it. Bought some, the Smoky   (there's Carolina and I think Memphis) and it was the best pulled pork I have ever made!  OMG!  Best sauce ever! Now I'm hooked.  So last night was left over pulled pork, coleslaw without blue cheese, and a Fiesta can of corn.  DH ate it all!  Couldnt believe it. I would do corn on the cob, but DH cant eat it, Plus it really is just a conduit for butter.

Today is burgers (mine with blue cheese) coleslaw, beans and deviled eggs.  Lunch is more left over and last of the pulled pork.

Donna is working the parade in Avondale Estates, so I do have to walk the dog this morning. Currently boiling eggs.

In 1977 I lost both my fiance ( he had just proposed) and my grandfather on the 3rd of July.  It used to be a big holiday for our family, we would be in town with friends and see the fireworks, but since then no one in my family really thought of it as a holiday. A day of remembrance.  I did get excited yesterday when half way through the work day, I realized I have 4 days off.  Still have to take DH to see a doc tomorrow, but I dont have to rush back and get on the phones. May actually get lunch out, and go to a museum.  I hope.  I can always hope.

Stay safe, stay cool,

We have been to Gibraltar five times, and sailed past the rock at least twice.  Our first visit was in 2002 on Noordam III.  The other visits were on Prinsendam in 2008, 2016 and 2017, and our final time was on Veendam in 2019.

These pictures are from our 2002 visit.  In addition to going up on the rock, we also visited the Roman baths, but I couldn't find pictures of the baths.

Annie, I'm sorry about your sad memories of July 3rd with the loss of two people you loved.  I get it.  But your food choices for Independence day sure sound good.  I'll have to look for that barbecue sauce at Kroger when we get home.  We will have to buy just about everything as we let everything run out ahead of this trip.  I hope after the doctor visit tomorrow you get to do those fun things you usually have to bypass, like lunch out and the museum.  And I certainly hope the weather improves soon!  It will be a huge shock to my system to go from THIS to THAT!🥶 🥵

We’ve been to Gibraltar 8 times. 😳 Once in a while we just stay on the ship and rest up.  But I have a few photos I picked to show you.  One cruise was during a December trip on Pacific Princess, and the second was when our family was with us on Emerald Princess helping us celebrate our 50th anniversary year.  It’s always more fun when showing the sights to the kids and grandkids.  I think they’ll remember that cruise forever.

Two things we always do are take a photo of me with a red British phone booth and DH with a cannon – anywhere in the world!

This is my phone booth photo from Dec. 10, 2018 while in Gibraltar.

And DH with the cannon in Gibraltar.  Every time we pass this one he gets his photo taken. Even with the grandkids the following summer.

The streets were busy with shoppers and I enjoyed the Christmas decorations I’d never seen there before.

Happy Independence Day to all of my American friends!  We had lots of fireworks going on last nite.  Our dog is not real fond of them.  He just couldn't get comfortable with all of the noise.  Haven't been to the port.  Barbecue is good, I like country music.  I'll take a burger with ground beef.  Im baking the sourdough today...wish me luck.  I'm also making a loaf of Cinnamon Swirl bread!  I'll have to taste first before I share it with the people at the Lake House !  Thanks for the pictures and sharing.

@StLouisCruisersmay you have many good memories of your Dad today.

Prayers for all who need them and cheers for those celebrating.  I'm seeing sad news from the Caribbean, many prayers for those in the path of Beryl, and prayers for the firefighters in Denali National Park.

Good morning Dailyites

Damn, it's hot.

You would think since we live in a 55 plus community there would be a quiet 4th. Oh no.. Fireworks started at 11:30 last night. Stopped about 1:00. Started at 2:30 for 20 minutes. They were coming from 2 sides of our hood. Must have been a competition. This morning when I was feeding the birds at 6, there were a few firecrackers go off on the south,  then a few more on the north. So far it's quiet.. Jeez

@StLouisCruisers dearest girl, prayers have been said for your family as I have them in my prayer book. I will celebrate your father's life today, as he seems like he was quite a guy. When are the twins due? Any update on your D-twin? Hope Dennis has an end to his cold and you stay healthy through the rest of your cruise. Also, I had a "bite" of Allen's hot dog this year on the Rotterdam, and continued a few more bites til Allen asked me to order him another hot dog..

@smitty34877 Terry and Tana, you are 2 strong women. But even Wonder Woman has a few bad days. I have my day's too, especially when Allen is feeling down in the dumps. He was always so active. I'm thankful you have help to get you through. God bless you.

@JazzyV You are like the energizer bunny. Thanks for your dedication to the Daily. I pray you and BFF heal quickly and strongly and move on to fun activities.

@kazu Jacqui, hang in there. I know you want to get your hands into your garden dirt and flowers and give Ivan his daily ball playing. Just take it easy til surgery so you don't worsen your injury.

Prayers and Blessings to each of our Daily-ites. Prayers to all in the path of the hurricane. Yikes! Prayers for our troops and innocents around the war torn countries.

Thanks to Ann, Debbie, Dixie, and Vanessa for your dedication. And of course to our Humble Leader, Rich.

This afternoon we have a poolside popsicle party from 4 to 6, then our girls game night. I am making 2 quiches. We also have appetizers, salad, and I think vegan almond butter cookies.

Wishing you a safe and happy 4th.

I think that the barbecue lobby must have bribed the weather bureau. Last night the forecast for today was rain, but it changed overnight to sunny and hot; the rain is rescheduled for tomorrow (my joints did not receive the revised forecast in time).

I will be having an uncured hot dog for lunch.

The bean burgers would be OK with me. Not interested in the drink. Three Brothers Winery was the first to grow Barbera in the Finger Lakes, so we'll go with their Estate 2022, which is 75% Barbera, 12.5% Cabernet Franc, 12.5% Zweigelt, $20. "Star anise, dried herbs, pomegranate on the nose. Black currant, red plum, blueberry on the palate."

Some cartoons for the day:

Lunch will also include kale, as there's quite a lot left over. It is the only green I really dislike (but it's lower in oxalates than spinach or chard).

Good Morning Everyone, thanks for today’s daily fleet report.  It’s a cool overcast morning but it should warm up with ever increasing humidity.  Today’s agenda includes a trip to Bob’s clothing store that is going out of business. We could get our Skechers there cheaper than anywhere else.  Whatever we do we must be home by 3:40.  The street by our house will be shut down for a race and then a parade.  Not sure what we are doing for dinner but a BBQ sounds good.  I hope everyone has a good day today.

Ten years ago today we visited Bar Harbor on the Maasdam.
