This is very disheartening.  But I pulled up the article:

Several questions remain unanswered at this moment. It is unclear whether Aydin exited the ship by himself or if he was escorted by his grandmother. If he left alone, it raises concerns how he managed to pass the security checkpoint unnoticed.

Why would it raise any red flags that a young man (17) walked off the ship alone?  I don't travel with minors, but wondering if there is a policy (or his medallion tagged) that minors need to be escorted off a ship by an adult?

It doesn't look good.  I know his grandmother must be extremely concerned and stressed.

According to a thread elsewhere, minors are not allowed to leave the ship without an adult, but security may have let him go to due to his size. One would hope that his medallion scan would indicate that he was a minor. I believe the grandmother disembarked later in the day due to her grandson missing. The child's mother is on her way to Germany. He's 14 years old.

I travel with a 13 year old and a 17 year old. There have been two occasions that they have tried to disembark without an adult. One time, the 13 year old (he was 12 at the time) had opted to stay on the ship while I ran out to the port shops. Then he texted to ask if he could join me. I was literally right at the bottom of the gangway and could see him, but he was not permitted to leave without me returning and collecting him. The second time my 17 year old (who easily looks 20) wanted to go ashore in a port that she knows extremely well. I had no issue with it. She was not allowed off without an adult and I was told (in no uncertain terms) that if I chose to return without her, she would NOT be permitted to re-board until an adult was present. So, yes, there should be a process in place to prevent minors leaving the ship without an adult.

So how did this happen?  More information from the news media is needed.  Did this 14 year old leave the ship with his grandmother and then wandered off (like that Alzheimer patient a couple of months ago)?

Very scary for him and his family.

Let’s hope they find him quickly.

If he’s a gamer and they have an idea who he met, they can contact him through the gamer’s website.

Police will find him very soon.  Prayers.

According to someone claiming to be a minor currently on board who posted elsewhere:

"i’m in the ship rn and a minor. whenever my medallion is scanned the pictures of my traveling group show up on their ipad. i would assume there is something saying that im a minor. especially cus while leaving one time they asked who was accompanying me, since im a minor and can’t leave the ship alone."

The missing minor (r) was last seen with this person with a ponytail. Police are currently looking for him and only calling him/her a "witness"

Please contact the police if you have any info or recognize this "witness"

I wonder if there are different “rules” in Europe? I would hope not, but maybe the requirements for an adult to be present to leave the ship is not a thing? If it’s still required then the security folks did not do their job as it is definitely flagged when the medallion is scanned if the person is a minor!

Sounds like security is slacking. Another teen on this sailing posted this elsewhere:

"yea i’m currently on the ship and i had a very similar experience. i’m a teenager and was leaving the ship at the copenhagen port with my sister who is an adult. while leaving we ended up in different lines to scan our medallions. when i scanned my medallion they asked who was accompanying me and i pointed at my sister, who at this point already scanned her medallion and had her back turned and was walking away. they then just let me go right thru. looking back on it i could have easily just pointed at some random person and they would have let me thru."

I mean, the fact they asked shows that a minor needs to be with an adult. However, you would think they would require more than just “I’m with that person” to let them leave! As a parent with kids that would never leave without ok’ing it with me, it’s not really been a concern. But it’s 100% not ok to be allowing a minor to leave a ship unattended!

This article also brings that possibility up. I also noticed if you google his name there are quite a few posts across different platforms asking others to play Fortnite, so that might be connected if it's the same "Aydin Brown":

"The police announced on Friday afternoon that it cannot be ruled out "that the missing person has made contact with the gaming scene in Germany and that the previously unknown witness is also active in the scene."

Both apparently met at the train station around 7:30 a.m.

According to the report, initial investigations have shown that Aydin Brown "had been in personal contact with this previously unknown person" after leaving the ship at 7 a.m. on Thursday. The police are looking for the man, who is said to be around 20 to 25 years old. He has a slim build and "noticeably long hair that was braided into a ponytail." He is also said to have been wearing a light shirt, blue trousers, a black jacket and brown over-ear headphones"

Found this quote attributed to the police:

“Rostock police said an investigation revealed that Brown and his grandmother reportedly got into an argument which led him to leave the ship”.

Fourteen, he's fourteen.
