Ama Question - Alcohol After Dinner?

Our only river cruise experience has been two cruises on Uniworld.  We enjoyed both - especially the all-inclusive feature - but we are thinking about trying a different cruise line next time. Ama is one we are looking at, but I'd appreciate some clarification on their alcoholic beverage service.  I know that they offer unlimited wine/beer/soft drinks at lunch and dinner and that there is a daily cocktail hour.  But is alcohol available for purchase at other times, ie after dinner? We really enjoyed having a glass or two of wine (or in my husband's case, Scotch) in the late evenings on the sun deck on our Uniworld cruises.  Thank you for your help.

Yes, wine and spirits are available for purchase after dinner.  Plus as you leave the restaurant from dinner they will happily top up your wine glass.

Thank you, Jazzbeau.  Do you know if there is an additional beverage package that can be purchased for wine/spirits consumed outside of lunch/dinner?  Or is it just billed to you by the glass?

Post dinner drinks were very reasonable ( actually less $ than several local restaurants her at home).  The sip and sail pre dinner cocktails covered a pretty good variety as well.  attached the menu from last spring. The also usually had a "cocktail of the day".

Just seeing post and agree with others - always took a full pour from the dining room.  We found the bar prices to be very reasonable.  Husband had bourbon most evenings and it was well under $10 US - thinking $8??  We also brought a bottle of wine back to our rooms from various cities and enjoyed on the balcony or in our state room.  Bar bill was the cheapest we've seen.  LOL

Not only drinks prices are very reasonable compared to ocean cruises but also in Europe they don't add a 20 % automatically  gratuities as in the US

  • 1 month later...

Generally speaking the river cruise lines that include wine with meals will allow you to bring wine on board because it lowers their cost.  There is no reason for them to restrict you.

We have often bought bottles of wine and then shared with our dinner table guests.

If we visit a winery and particularly like a wine, we will buy a bottle for that evening.
