Bringing Sodas on Carnival ships

Recommended Posts

Each passenger is able to bring up to 1x 12-pack of soda in their carry-on so long as they are cans and 12oz or less (so standard or mini size).

In addition to bringing your own soda with you on board, you can also buy more in each port if you run out.

While this is true, and we have done so many times the FAQ page (that I've not seen enforced) states different: https://www.carnival.com/help

Bringing Liquor and Beverages On Board - Embarkation

Guests are prohibited from bringing water, sodas and other non-alcoholic beverages that are packaged in glass or plastic bottles.

On embarkation day, a small quantity of non-alcoholic beverages (i.e., sparkling water, sodas, energy drinks, juice, and milk), packaged in cans or cartons, may be brought on board and must be in the guest's carry-on luggage. A small quantity is considered a maximum of 12 sealed, unopened cans/cartons of 12-ounces/354-ml each or less, per person.

Ya never know if they will someday enforce this!

If you scroll down to the bottom of the page you quoted, it specifically talks about bringing beverages back in ports.

I see that. Not sure when added, but it's a good thing.

I am the rule breaker that takes his ham radio aboard. I do internet based digital, so there is no chance of interfering with ship communications. Still a rebel at 65...

They do not need to be in the carton. They just need to be in your carry-on. If you want to mix up the sodas you can.

I'd say if you got on with 16oz cans, you'd better be at the casino right when it opens because it's your lucky day. Or maybe avoid the casino because you used all your luck getting the 16oz cans on.

Though maybe it depends on the port you're embarking from.

Out of pure curiosity does anyone know if the 12 oz can size a hard limit or could you have six 16 oz cans since that would be well under the total volume of twelve 12 oz cans?

I don't think you'll have any problems. I always bring on Monster drinks in the larger size and have never been questioned. They most likely won't even look closely at what you bring, just glance over it as it goes through the xray scanner.

Hmmm ... good to know. So maybe the answer is, you can try, but if they take them, don't be mad.

So probably would come down to individual you get at security and how literally they want to interpret and apply the rule. I would think the intent behind it is sealed cans so you aren't smuggling on booze and restricting the total volume to no more than 144 oz. rather than a specific can size but who knows.

I used to have an inert pistol cartridge (bullet, casing, no powder and in place of the primer was a metal loop with a little chain) on my car keys. It went through security on 4 cruises and numerous other places for years without more than a glance to confirm it was indeed not a live round and impossible to be a danger to anyone (unless I threw it really hard I suppose😆). 5th cruise the lady at security check told me I couldn't take it on board and had me throw it in the trash can, so go figure.

Yep, it shouldn't be that way, but ultimately all you need is one agent who has a bad day or an ego trip and something you've taken 20 times becomes a no go.

At Disneyland security once we saw them tell someone no who had a key that was "L" shaped. We saw it and it was about the size of a key and completely flat. It was the key for the antitheft device on their car. They refused to let them take it in and told them to take it back to their car or throw it away. Putting the key to their antitheft device for their car, in the car kind of defeats the purpose of it.

DL security did the same to DH once when he had a pen. Something he carries all the time, including the multitude of times we'd been to DL. They wouldn't let him bring it in because in their words "he could use it for self-defense." What? It's a pen! One guy showed it to the other and he said "yeah it's a pen" then the first guy said "but he could use it for self-defense"  the 2nd guy said "oh ok" and they wouldn't let him take it in. You could use any of the plastic utensils they have in the park for the same thing, except signing a receipt. :classic_blink:

As long as the dimensions are less than 16" tall and 24" wide when you lay it down so it can go through the scanner I don't see why not.
