The Fleet Report and Daily for Friday September 6th, 2024

Recommended Posts

Prayers for your DB Nick, Graham.  Scary times for your family but praying all will be well.

Cooler day here today.  Trip for DH yesterday to check on possible need for cataract surgery.  Inconclusive. Follow up next week to cardiologist to check on chest pain that DH has had.  Heart tests are coming back negative. More tests to follow, I am sure.

Best wishes for everyone to have a great day.  Katherine

Good morning.  Thanks for the Report.

It's raining here and I slept in.  I don't think one has anything to do with the other, but that's the way it is.

Everyday should be read a book day.  We don't have 401(k)s here.  I often donate to the local food bank.

Love the quote,  I should re-read Walden.

Yes to the meal, no to the drink and yes to the wine.

Prayers for so many.  I hope there are lots of celebrations.

I'd better get going, I'm late for taking Bertie for a walk.

Have a great day everyone.

Good morning from a mostly sunny central Texas.  It is 73F with a 6mph wind from the N, 95% humidity and a dew point of 71F.  The predicted high is 89F.  We'll be heading back to UTSW later this morning to see one of the ENT doctors.  While the shunt is working as it should, there are a couple of issues that were thought to be related to the NPH, but since they have not improved, the nurse practioner thinks they may be caused by an inner ear issue.  DH has been doing the Epley maneuver for the past ten days and is having some relief.  Hopefully, this visit will tell us what is gong on and what to do about it.  In the overall scheme of things, and considering what others are facing, he does not need to be on the Care List.

I always have a book that I'm reading.  401(k)s are a good way to save for retirement, but sadly they are not as good as the pension plans companies used to offer employees.  Food banks are good for those who cannot afford food, but it's still sad that so many need them.

I like the Henry David Thoreau quote, and I wish it was easier to follow at times.

The flank steak sounds good, but there is more to Cajun seasoning than salt.  We'll pass on the drink.  The wine sounds good, but since I can get my preferred Riesling for about a third of the price, I'll stick with it.

We were in Koh Samui in as a substitute port on the old Regal Princess in 2003.  With SARS raging throughout a lot of Asia, it replaced our port in Vietnam.

The 1522 ending of the first circumnavigation voyage has a sad ending when the ship returned to Spain without its captain, Ferdinand Magellan.

The 1916 opening of the first Piggly Wiggly made history.  We never lived where there was a Piggly Wiggly.

@atexsix  Bruno, I hope you carotid test comes back with good results.

@Vict0riann  Ann, I hope Pat's cardiac surgeon visit today gives him a date for his surgery.

@ottahand7  Nancy, that is concerning that your DB Nick has a pulmonary embolism.  I hope the hospital has the relatively new machine that can remove blood clots from the lungs.  Almost two years ago, DH had a huge embolism that was in the blood vessel and spread to both lungs.  The doctors when in through a vein in his groin and were able to remove all of the embolism.  I hope Nick can have the same results.

@Heartgrove  Jack, that is good news your DSIL's ankle bones are healing well.  It must be a relief for her to have the staples out, along with graduating to a boot.

@Lady Hudson  Katherine, I'm sorry the check for possible cataract surgery for your DH yesterday was inconclusive.  I hope next week's cardiologist visit will give you some answers to his chest pain.

This is what I posted about our visit to Koh Samui on November 17, 2022.

We hired a taxi for a tour of the island.  This is a map of the island that was at one of our stops.

The red arrow points to the park with the giant Buddha and other statues is located.  The other arrow points to Nathon and the area of the tender dock.  Koh Samui district is around the "bump" on the eastern side of the island.

InkedInkedIMG_2535.thumb.jpg.206a179d3922dc48a88ba09752b925d8.jpg

This is the dock where we tendered.  The people on the right side of the pictures near the bus with all their luggage were catching up with the ship.  They fly flew to Bangkok in time to catch the ship, but there were problems with the plane, and they made an unexpected stop in Anchorage until another plane became available.  Most were dressed for tropical weather, and were not dressed for Anchorage in April.  Regal Princes is in the background.  There were so many flying from Bangkok that Princess chartered the plane so there would be room for the passengers and their luggage.  The non-ship passengers were booted off the plane.

Here are a few more of the many statues.  The park was still a work in progress.

Good Friday Morning Dailyites!  I have a full day planned, but lets see if we can make it happen!

Step one, actually, ,move out of chair to the shower, to dress, to walk the dog.  You know if I can get that much done, my day will be rolling!

Yesterday the lawn guys came by.  The minute the older cats hear those mowers they hide under the chairs and sofa.  The babies, came over to my work bench, two curled up next to me, and one wrapped himself around my foot.  I am glad that they feel safe when I am around. I am also working with Momma Munchkin so that she knows that she can be petted, that I wont hurt her if i pick her up and hold her.  She had lived some time with someone, but she got rather wild living on her own.  She does come to me when called.  Accepts scritching, and petting, it is feeding her that is the hardest. She still wants her children to be fed first, even if I move her plate to another area. Maybe she is simply a crunchy muncher.

It is cloudy today, it will be cooler and there is a 40 % chance of rain, that once again we are desperate for.  Looking forward to next week, when monday night NOAA says the temps will get down into the 50's.  Cant wait. I am still sleeping on the sofa, with a rotating fan blowing on me all night.  DH is in the bedroom with heavy sheets, a blanket and the fan off.

Our Orlando campaign went all week without a sale.  I got one last night!  My boss was so happy.  I mean we have to sell to keep the campaign!  Hopefully I will get more tomorrow morning.  Today I just will work a few hours late afternoon.

Currently on the tv, they are showing the first court appearances of the father of the kid involved in the school shooting-based on the fact that he was warned about his son's posting he was going to do the shooting last year, he actually gave his son an assault rifle for Christmas, and he is being charged 4 counts of involuntary of manslaughter, 8 counts of cruelty to children, with two counts of murder and a few other charges total all years will add up to 180. years in prison.

And the kid, will being treated as an adult because it is murder, has had the death penalty taken off the table.

And that is all the news that's almost fit to print.

I talked with my BFF last night.  He told me about an art installation called the Migration of Elephants.,  They are elephants made out of wood, babies, teens, mommas and bulls ant there are 100 of them all lined up in migration.  He saw them In newport RI.  They are heading to NYC, and to Miami in December, they are not stopping in Atlanta.  Too bad.  Created by an artist they are for sale in the thousands, but they are to remind us of the hard ships of the elephants.   Then they are off to Montana, and then LA.  He said he saw 100 elephants, but he saw millions of people.  But worth every minute.  Hence I posted a picture of an elephant.

Good morning everyone.  I woke up to the exterminators pull up the drive.  We were expecting them this afternoon but I guess their schedule must’ve changed.

Thanks for the daily updates.  Three nice days to recognize.  I will definitely celebrate 401K day as it’s allowed me to retire a little early.

I like today’s quote very much.

The meal sounds very tasty but I think the drink would be a little sweet for me.

I haven’t been to the port of the day.

Prayers for those on our prayer list, I hope you find some comfort today.  Cheers to everyone celebrating happy events.  Happy 55th anniversary to @StLouisCruisers 🥂!

Lorraine @cruising sister thank you for showing the photo of Murphy and baby sis Rooney Reneé.  What a darling family!

Nancy @ottahand7 I hope the heparin drip works and the procedure is successful.  You must be worried sick about it all.  Prayers for a much improved brother very soon! 🙏

Good morning, thanks for the Fleet Report and Daily!  I've almost always got a book on the go on my iPad mini.  We don't have 401k's here, but do have decent employer supported pension plans.  The food bank is holding a drive this weekend, and we've already got our donation bagged up ready and waiting at the front door.  Will set it out tonight and it's usually gone by 9AM.

Happy 55th Anniversary to @StLouisCruisers and Dennis; let the love and laughter continue!

@atexsixgood luck with your carotid ultrasound.

@Vict0riannsending prayers for DH's cardiac surgeon appointment today that he gets an early date for a valve replacement.

@ottahand7prayers for your DB's medical situation - one that should have been resolved a long time ago, but grateful that the clot occurred while he was in hospital.

@Seasick Sailorpraying for Bonnie's surgery today.

@cruising sisterthank you for sharing the photo of big sister Murphy with the sweet little baby Rooney Renee!

A bright, sunny, breezy day out there for us this morning, with a temp starting at 12(53), but a predicted high of 30(86) which means summer still hasn't blown out the door!  A restless night as DH was up and down like a, well, like a jack in the box - leg cramps, grabbing my blanket (his fell on the floor), etc.  I told him it's like I was sleeping with a squirrel last night!  LOL  Pretty sure a nap is in my future today.  Some time today we're expecting a visit from an electrician who will give us an estimation of new wiring for the garage because of the new fancy door opener.  And then I'm taking off for a bit to deliver the latest of my blankets for children going into foster care - I've got 42 bagged up and ready to go.  Here's a photo of them spread out on our chesterfield and some are folded on the coffee table in front of it.

No photo description available.

I haven't had a snowball in years - I've had the one with Advocaat and quite enjoyed it as I recall.  I'll let others enjoy the white wine, but would like the flank steak if someone cooked it for me.  It's Friday night pizza night and DH has requested the chicken-bacon-ranch special at a place not far from here, so I'll stop on my way home from dropping off blankets to pick one up for us to enjoy on the deck tonight.  And wine.

Prayers for everyone who is in need, cheers to all with celebrations.

Smooth Sailing!  ☺️☺️☺️

Gerry

Good morning Dailyites from the beautiful Westerdam in Skagway. Looks like liquid sunshine out there.

@StLouisCruisers Sandi Wishing you and Dennis a Happy 55th Anniversary!

@cruising sister such an adorable picture of the sweet sisters!

@ger_77 Gerri I had to get a close up of all those beautiful blankets you've made. Such a lovely thing to do. (BTW, Bonnie's surgery is Monday but thank you for continued prayers) ❤️

I don't know what will be on our agenda today. It is a quick 10 minute shuttle to town, just not sure if I want to get wet and soggy, and Allen is a firm no. Maybe find a cozy place to read my current book.

Blessings for a great day!
