(Proper) Coffee on Millenium?

Now our upcoming cruise is paid for and organised within an inch of its life we've started obsessing over the small details!

We're up on deck 11 and wondering if we can get barista coffee at either Ocean View or Spa Cafes?

(I mean the coffee you pay extra for that's made by someone else rather than a self serve machine. )

Please and thank you.

We were on the Infinity in December.  We were able to order Barista made coffees in the buffet area.  I believe they had a barista on duty during breakfast hours.  We always had a waiter bring the coffee to us but I believe you could go to the bar area and order it yourself if you wanted to.

I expect that other Celebrity ships would be similar.

I see you are from Melbourne where the coffee culture is fantastic. Coffee on any Celebrity ship or any of the other cruise lines is all American styled so even if you order a Latte it’s not the same. Cafe al Bacio does do barista coffee but it’s no where near as good as any coffee you would get in Melbourne. Just my humble opinion as everyone likes their own versions of coffee and that is fair enough.

Perfect, it sounds like we won't need to schlep down to deck 5 for our morning brain juice.  Thanks everyone.

Just one of the reasons we choose Deck 7 close to the stairs - easy walk to Al Bacio. Some of the bars also have espresso machines for example Passport and Casino.

Exactly what I was about to write 😁. Coffee is rather excellent in Adelaide too. But it's the one thing I miss when I travel overseas everywhere. Coffeee.

@clairebearinaus - we are on deck 11 Millenium in April. As an Aussie, keen to hear of your experiences. And have a fab trip.

My husband loves his daily coffee, but on all three of the Celebrity cruises we've been on (most recent was the Edge in February this year) he's hated the coffee served on the ship, whether it was in Al Bacio, or restaurants on board. As Plumbo said it's American style, and not what you may be used to.  My husband couldn't wait to get off the ship in New Zealand to get a decent cup.

Whether he likes a long black or a short black, neither of which would be considered "American style", or even a flat white, they can certainly accommodate those at Al Bacio.  What was it that he was hoping to find?

The coffee at AL Bacio are made fine. The difference in coffee taste is dependent on the quality of the beans and how old the beans are. Al Bacio is not bad at all. Of course a craft coffee cafe in Australia or the US will have better beans.

We are hungarians, here we drink italian espresso (or a hungarian thing similar to espresso, which we do not like anymore), and I need that first thing in the morning, so we always take something with us to make our own espresso. Nowadays it's a WACACO 'machine' (NS 2) which does not need electricity, just hot water (a kettle is best) + Starbucks Espresso Roast by Nespresso capsules.

Yes I know it's not the real thing, at home we use Illy beans, but it's better than most of the espressos we can get abroad in non-espresso-drinking countries.

The son of my husband is meanwhile an australian citizen, he was very keen on showing us the australian specialty coffees when we visited him in Sydney, but I have to admit we rather went to Starbucks for a one-shot espresso, although we never do that here in Budapest. 🙂 All specialty coffees are too sour for our taste, they are lightly roasted. Tastes differ - however, I cannot imagine you would get the coffee you are used to on Celebrity.

It's the milky drinks that are really bad. Latte, flat white, cappuccino or cortado, they're all the same. A questionable shot with whatever ratio of warm(ish) steamed milk they have premade on the counter is what you get. It is what it is.

Coffee, wine, beer snobs, they are all the same..you know what you are getting when you cruise.  Not sure why people want the exact same things they can get at home..

Because many in Australia are coffee tragics. Wine, beer etc - good or bad depending on the winery/brewer not the country.

You didn'nt indicate which class ship you will be on.   On  M- Class -  No only Al Bacio on 5.    OVC has some pretty vile stuff they call coffee that I can't drink

On S-Class and E-Class they have Ab Bacio Segundo at the entrance to the Ocean View Cafe.

It wasn't the fact that they couldn't accommodate the coffee he wanted (and he tried several different types) in Al Bacio or the other restaurants, they were available.  He found the coffee on the three Celebrity cruises (Solstice, Edge and Constellation) we've cruised with very similar and all unpalatable to his taste.  Others may like that coffee, he didn't.  As another Australian pointed out on this forum, the coffees on board may be more closer in taste to those drunk by Americans, which is different to Australian coffee & taste.  I don't drink coffee so can't tell what the difference is.

At least any coffee on any Celebrity ship is significantly better than what used to be served on a US Navy submarine (it’s been a few decades). That stuff could double as engine lubricant…

Part of the joy of travelling is to enjoy new experiences/food/drink etc. With 80% of X's passengers being from the USA/Canada it's hardly surprising that X caters predominantly for those passengers.

Embrace the changes.

Just ask for it extra hot and the milk will be steamed  "while you wait". We often get a mug of hot milk to take to the cabin at bed time.

I drink a lot of teas onboard as I have a hard time getting coffee that I like (I drink it black & don’t like bitter coffee)

You might try bringing along your favorite and use a Travel French Press.   I do this and either just order hot water of go to the Buffet and get the hot water there.
