Bamboo Room Part Deux

Round two of my exploration of the tiki cocktails of Navigator of the Seas Bamboo Room.

Bernie’s Mai Tai

It is a different twist on the original Mai Tai. This one is Gin based and does not have the usual tartness. Because it’s Gin, it’s not as sweet as a rum based Mai Tai. I’m not normally a Gin drinker but this was just ok. 2 out of 5 only because if you are going to drink a Mai Tai, drink an actual Mai Tai.

Bamboo Room Mai Tai

Closer to what an actual Mai Tai should taste like but still not there. The Orange Cointreau just isn’t as good as Ferrand Orange Curaçao . The Meyers dark rum was not as good as the Plantation Dark that I use. Unfortunately a

Tiki Tea which is the first ever Mezcal based tiki cocktails I have ever tried. I never thought of a Mezcal based tiki cocktail as most tiki cocktails are not Smokey.

Not a fan at all. Lemon juice and the Mezcal over powered it . If you love Mezcal this might be for you but not for me. 0 out of 5

Island Old Fashioned

Basically a Rum Old Fashioned but sweeter than a bourbon based Old Fashioned. I liked the addition of the spiced brown syrup as opposed as a simple syrup or Oleo Saccharin syrup. I liked it, 4 out of 5.

Best for last. A Banana Colada.

IMG_0496.thumb.jpeg.bf778a68726d35c4a9d77914e59b27d3.jpeg

The key here was the machine that mixed it and the use of Xantham Powder which makes a frozen drink’s consistency smooth. No ice is crushed in this drink. This is so creamy and smooth. Pure velvet creamy banana flavor. Smith and Cross rum along with Bacardi Superior rum with coconut milk and banana and cinnamon syrup really balances this cocktail out. Winner, winner out of all the specialty cocktails on the menu. 5 out of 5 .

Keep in mind all the Bamboo Room  Specialty cocktails cost $15 so if you have the drink package it will cost you an extra $1. That’s it’s for all their Specialty cocktails . I did not try the Saturn Landing because the machine that makes it was broke. Not sure what was up with that.

Linda and @taznremmy were my drinking partner’s but we’re not having as many to try as myself. I am on a quest to find the best Bamboo Room tiki cocktails on the menu.

Onward! I will continue on with the rest of the Bamboo menu later with their non specialty tiki cocktails that are all covered under the drink package. Until then, Cheers!

I must say I have enjoyed meeting and talking to the Bamboo Room lead bartender Thulio from Brazil. He and I have bonded talking about tiki cocktails and I ended up getting his email and sent him some of my tiki resources. I think he really appreciated that.

While a lot will miss bartender Raj. I think we all are in good hands. He even created the famous Bamboo Room Rainbow Shots for all of us to have. Very impressive. I am still at a loss how he did that. Cheers!!

Good Morning Cabo San Lucas!!

The tenders are gathering.

Interesting being in a cabin in the front of the ship. We could feel the vibration and hear the sound of the anchor being dropped. I wish I could have seen it but feeling it was wild.

As a Mai Tai lover, this is disappointing to hear.  If you're going to have a Tiki bar, you should definitely use Ferrand Curacao and something (anything!) better than Meyers.  Did they at least use the Smith & Cross?

The gin based Mai Tai sounds a little strange (but I'd give it a try 😁) and I'm guessing I'd have the same opinion as you of the Tiki Tea.

Yes the Ferrand is the “Gold Standard” in tiki cocktails.

They did use Smith & Cross which helped.

Yes a gin Mai Tai sounds like a bad bartender who ran out of rum.

Let’s Try This Again.

Decided to try the WJ for breakfast. It was still hectic but we found a table away from the mass humanity of passenger sheep.

IMG_0505.thumb.jpeg.c194fc7b02f78b2efad1ff7d8883eaf5.jpeg

Food was actually very good and a big difference was noted in the size of the Eggs Benedict. Much larger in the WJ than in the MDR.

Oh by the way I had my personal yacht standing by in case we wanted a better boat than the one we are taking for our excursion.

Great stuff, I'm looking forward to meeting him.  7 more days for me 🙂

I think you need to turn this cruise into a B3B and book the subsequent 3 day and then the 4 day following that that I'll be on 🙂.

I wish we could but Linda has to get back for some mediation work.

One in a Million!!

So I am standing in line waiting for our Cabo Luxury Day Sail and this couple were standing in front of us. The wife sees my sea pass card and remarks “No way.” She asks “is that your name”? to which I replied yes and she says “that’s my husband’s name spelled the same way.” What are the odds you would meet someone with the same name spelled out the same way.

Are you taking the tacos and tequila tour in Puerto Vallarta? We took it in May. It was awesome! We stopped at 5 restaurants, a taco stand, and a churro vendor - all outstanding. We came home having a new love for Mezcal and Raicilla!

We are actually doing an all inclusive beach resort at the Marival Emotion Resort .

Our middle grandson introduced me to a Tequila Old Fashioned.
I have been drinking New Fashioned (a rum based old fashioned similar in recipe to the one at the Bamboo Room) but first time I have had one made with tequila.  It was surprisingly decent.
