Topless sun bathing?

Jennew.....not commenting on your parenting, but have your kids ever read National Geographic?

When your 7 year old loudly asks "did that woman forget her top", you calmly reply "no, dear....she's just wants to get a tan without strap lines".

You'd say the same thing if he saw a naked man on the sundeck.

And as for your husband "blushing".....what's THAT all about? Does he think it's sexual whenever he takes his shirt off while cutting the lawn? Tanning at the beach?

Why should it have to be considered sexual when a woman does it?

;)

First off- my children's reading material has nothing to do with this. I don't think it will scar them to see a breast.

Now...genitals are another thing. So....if I saw a man's penis out for "sunning" I would feel more than a little offended. So...I would NOT agree with your comment on a naked man sunning.

My husband would blush because in OUR culture, naked breasts ARE a sexual thing. If they were not then our porn industry would be in BIG trouble. If I was a puritan then I would cover my ankles for the same reason :D.

I am not trying to be contentious....if Princess decides to allow topless women to sun while near the pool then I would have to decide whether I want to cruise this line anymore. Until then...let's just move on.

I don't know that anyone here has said that you "should" expose your kids to topless sunbathing. The point is that there are places in the world where this is standard practice and they are not going to change for our benefit. I think if a parent has objections to their children seeing topless sunbathers, then it's well within their rights to avoid going to those places.

When we were on the French coast, we didn't "trapse our kids to the beach in order to give them a topless experience." We wanted to go to the beach, and in order to go to the beach in southern France, you've got to be aware that there will be some women there without their tops on. They're only catching rays, no strip teases that I ever saw.

I think this whole matter has been exhausted. It started with a question about topless spots on Princess. I don't think there is one.

As for you comment about France, I agree with you that if I were to go to the beach in France I would forewarn my kids about toplessness. I wouldn't not go on any vacation because my kids might catch a glimpse of a breast.

you know what....tolerance and respect should be a TWO WAY street. I thank GOD everyday that I live in a country that allows us the freedom to have an OPINION either way!!

Thank you! My point exactly. If I am supposed to BE tolerant, then I EXPECT tolerance of my views too. :)

And, really, most young children don't even notice, unless the adults around them make a big deal about.

You must not have young children. All children over 5 yrs would notice.

My 8 yr DD would notice. My not so young 15 yr DS would notice and would try to get pictures if he thought that I would not kill him for it.

I agree 10000%

My 7 year old DS thinks it's funny if he sees me in my underwear. He has no reason to be that way, I have always walked around partially clothed in front of the kids and yet he still makes a big deal out of it. he will yell- "Hey Mom- I see your butt butt butt..."

I can only imagine what he would do it he saw 'Boobs boobs boobs"...LOL

Come on CruiseCriters there only boobs, no big deal. Lighten up.

My human development book says that the average 17 year old boy has a sexual thought every 7 seconds. Too many boobs could cause a brain explosion, or the very least a lot of discomfort!!

I find this thread amusing, that in this day and age anyone would be so uptight about topless sunbathing. I have occassionaly taken my top off on one of the upper decks on Princess and RCI when it is quite and very few people are up there, I have seen many others do the same. And my DH would never "blush" if he saw a anothers women's breast! Only in America do we watch so much nudity on TV and in the movies and get upset if someone is sunbathing or even worse breastfeeding! Oh the horror . . .

I am also amused that someone would infer that accepting public nudity is "progressive"...some of us might call it "degenerative" and NONE of us is really able to say who is right. The bottom line is RESPECT. You have the right to bare your breasts in public just like I have the right to pick my nose in public. Maybe we both ought to save those activities for the proper venue?

Also, my husband and I do not watch TV or movies that show bare breasts, and that is our choice. We won't change your channel on your TV, so please don't make us watch your breasts....I mean show.

Has anyone done Stingray City? What about the 4X4 jungle in Barbados?

Thanks, Bob

Spoken like a true man! We women don't really enjoy having half-dressed women around. Kind of makes us mad actually- especially when the men enjoy it so much!

I was on Southbeach on my honeymoon. My husband didn't want to go to the beach and get all sandy (we were getting on the ship in a few hours) but I insisted. We sit down on the largely deserted beach. Three attractive fully clothed women decided to lay a blanket down next to our beach chairs. They proceeded to take off everything but their thongs. All of a sudden I wanted to leave and he wanted to stay. I laugh now but at the time I wanted to kill them!

So sorry, women do find it offensive- at least in America.

I just started reading this thread so I'm sorry to go backwards and reply to page one, but please...not all American women are offended. Maybe it's because I'm not a jealous-type person, but I just can't for the life of me understand why a woman would get mad at another woman because her husband finds the woman attractive? Good grief -- people are human. I guarandamntee ya if Brad Pitt were half naked in my presence my husband would have to drag me away. What man -- uh, I mean what straight man doesn't enjoy looking at an attractive woman's bare breasts? They are only boobs -- lighten up.

I normally just read but, got to chime in. Our bodies are just like anyone elses, just different colors and sizes. If your raised to be overly modest and that the human body is embarrassing or even worse then that. I can see why someone would be upset, embarassed, discussed etc. I am an American woman that was brought up that the naked human body is nothing but normal and it doesn't bother me in the least.

But we also need to keep in mind not everyone was raised the same way and everyone needs to be considerate of others. Just like smoker verses non-smokers.

Hate to break it to ya, but when you are on a cruise ship, you ain't in Kansas anymore....

As an American, I hate Americans that think their beliefs are world wide. Cruises are one of the most multinational activity you can participate in. If you don't like other cultural norms, go to Disneyland...

Just MHO, but it seems to me the person she should have been angry at was sitting next to her .... not on the other towel.

Yeah...I never understood that. Like if a husband is caught cheating and the wife beats up the other woman. Just doesn't make sense to me...misplaced anger.

There's a fine line between disrepctful ogling and sneaking a peak IMO. Frankly, I would be concerned if my DH didn't turn his head a nice pair, know what I mean?

Hi Guys

As a Brit it is interesting to read the diverse viewpoint Americans have on the subject of nudity.

WE do not have a lot of topless sunbathing here in the UK; perhaps it is because it is to cold.

Hence on a visit to Orient Beach St Maarten earlier in the year

I could not believe! that so many ladies would sunbathe topless.

My wife and I being with friends found it all too embarrassing.

I decided to take a stroll to the other end of the beach. WELL the sight that met my eyes, just so disturbing, people were not just sun bathing but walking about totally naked. I beat a hasty retreat.

Getting back to the sanctity of the topless area I could not believe what I had just witnessed.

So much so that I revisited that area of the beach four times that day just to be reassured that my eyes were not deceiving me. ;)

Regards

Cb

Well.. as a mom of almost 15 years old I'd say if they feel something ... it's not about topless women who usually seat around the pool on the ships or on resorts. In my experience most of topless sunbathers are in their 40+ - 60+. Boys usually dream about 14-17 girs.;)

Yes, I can see the whole "cold" thing being a major deterrent from women showing their boobies in the UK.

Hmmm....a Brit finding nekkidness embarrassing? I don't believe it! From the people that bring us ww.page3.com? LOL. (go to that link at your own risk, this is indeed a disclaimer)
