Ft. Lauderdale Hotels- Recommendations Please

We are flying into Ft Lauderdale Dec 27; and are looking for accommodations for one night (departing Celebrity Constellation Dec 28). Ideal would be a hotel near the Cruise Port with shuttle service from airport and to cruise port

 

Ladies would like to be near shopping. The guys a relaxing area in the hotel

What you need to do is go to the North America Homeports section of this forum and then to East Coast Departures. There is all sorts of info there especially on Ft. Lauderdale.

embassy suites overlooks the port

so does the pier 66

anything on or near s.e.17 street causeway or the harbor beach area would be close

yankee clipper is right on the beach and about 1 mile from port

try and stay in or around zip code 33316 or at least in s.e. area, best shopping is galleria mall on sunrise blvd near beach area

My vote is for the Riverside Hotel on Las Olas in a tower room. You are in the middle of shopping, good restaurants and also close to beach and port.

If we are not going on a cruise and will be flying out of Fort Lauderdale, we usually stay at the Sheraton Fort Lauderdale Airport Hotel, which is very convenient to the airport [and Port Everglades.]

 

Pre-cruise and post-cruise we stay at the Hyatt Regency Pier 66. If you stay in the tower, you will have a big triangurlar deck with a great view of the waterways, the ocean and the cruise ships. We get the Senior rate and it is relatively reasonable for a top quality room.

We were able to get the Renaissance Fort Lauderdale for $95.00 for one night this April using priceline. It's only a short distance from Port Everglades and gets great reviews on tripadvisor.com.

Just got home from our cruise and stayed an extra night in Ft. Lauderdale to try and avoid Superbowl traffic. We stayed at the Sheraton Yankee Clipper. They have 4 buildings, and are on the beach. We stayed in the main building, had an ocean view room and paid $240 (room 218). Unfortunately the weather was not good, otherwise I would really have enjoyed the patio and grill with the pool and bar right on the beach. they have lounge chairs and it was just a beautiful spot to enjoy the beach if the weather is good. The room was just OK.. nothing special. They have a steak restaurant inside that is supposed to be very good, we did eat breakfast there, coffe is $3.00 a cup..or breakfast buffett was $13.95 each.. which ended up being the best deal. We took a cab to Las Olas shopping area.. reall really nice.. lovely boutiques and outside cafes and restaurants.. we had Cheesecake at the Cheesecake factory, and dinner at Mangos.. very good food and reasonably priced as well. Cab cost was $8.90 each way. The hotel does not offer a shuttle to the airport, and I think they should, but otherwise it was ok, and I would go back. Hope this helps.

I would vote for the Riverside also.

 

My wife and I have been staying there for several cruises and really love the location, shopping.

 

Its only about a $15 taxi fare to the pier.

 

You can not beat this location.

Lago Mar, doen't have free shuttle but close to airport and port. Fantastic beach, great service and great rooms. But not cheap, but what the heck you are on vacation. We did a pre and psot nights there and enjoyed it to the max.

We usually stay at the Hyatt Pier 66, but last year they changed ownership and we no longer care for what the new ownership has done to the place. First off, the Tower Bar is no longer open to the public and they have completely redone the pool area. Still a nice place, but not like it was.

 

This time we are going to stay at the Pillars, a small 26 room hotel, which is suppossed to be very nice.

We've stayed at the Atlantic twice and the Diplomat about 7 times. Both are spectacular, in own opinion.

We stayed at the one on SR-84 and were very happy we had picked that one instead of the one on 17th Street. It was completely remodeled w/new bedding and fixtures. They had a complimentary shuttle from the airport and to the pier. The price also included continental breakfast. There was some type of shopping directly across the street and several restaurants within walking distance. No malls nearby though and no upscale bars but we had a car and could go where we wanted.

There are some very nice smaller "ma and pa" type places a block or two from the beach. Check out "superior small lodgings" on sunny.org (a ft lauderdale site). We have stayed at a few. My favorite is Tropi Rock. Also, take the water taxi to Las Olas and the riverfront, it is cheaper and very enjoyable.

DGF...We recently stayed at the Amerisuites on 17th St. We had read many many mixed reviews. We had stayed there a few years ago and found it to be more than acceptable. We were sailing during Spring Break so Priceline was not accepting anything close to reasonable.

We got Amerisuites on ValueTrips.com.

We talked to the manager about the forth coming changes as it will be labled under Hilton or Hyatt (I can never remember) They are making major changes that he hoped would be done by June '07

The location is wonderful. Very close to nice restaurants and shops. We were going to one of the close by restaurants and it started to rain,the shuttle driver insisted on driving us there. There is a Mexican restaurant right across the parking lot from the hotel.Outside swings and good food.

I would stay there again,even if that were not remodeling. I am sure it will be great once the remodeling is done.

I had copied and saved this post that I got off of cruise critic, has most information on Fort Lauderdale.

 

 

You don't really need a car OR a shuttle if you stay at one of these

hotels. Just grab a cab, it's MUCH quicker and easier! They're all less

than 10 minutes from FLL, just outside the entrance to Port Everglades

and are surrounded by dozens of restaurants, shops, grocery, drug &

liquor stores as well as the very popular Water Taxi all within safe, easy

walking distance.

along that section of SE 17th Street, there's something for every taste

and budget.

 

Publix grocery store is in the large strip mall a block south on

Cordova Road, behind Embassy Suites. Publix sell beer & wine as well as being

very large, very nice grocery stores.

 

Barnie's Coffee & Tea is in the same strip mall as Publix, a few stores

This is a followup to my earlier post. We stayed at the Pillars Hotel at New River Sound. The location and hotel are a real delight, although it was $331.00 a night, taxes included (just this March). It is located a block off of the A1A in Fort Lauderdale just North of Las Olas. I would highly recommend this little gem to any one who doesn't mind the slightly high rate. I have some pix of the room and the hotel grounds, just click on my link to pix in my signature and look at the Owl's Caribbean cruise. They are some of the first pictures in the album on pages 1 & 2.

fllady: Thank you for such an informative post! :) :) We are looking into hotels in FLL for next year.

 

We had a bad experience last year in FLL at one of the small hotels. On sailing day we couldn't get a cab. We called and called and they said the cab was coming. I even went out onto the main street, hailed a cab, he said he would come and never did. We had to wait an hour and a half to get a cab and that was only because of the kindness of strangers who after hearing our plight continued on their walk and were able to get us a cab. When we got into the cab the cab driver said there were 7 ships in that morning.

 

We will definitely be staying at one of the more larger hotel chains from now on.
