No actually I didn't tell him...I guess I could have emailed him when we got home but I didn't really see a point in it. But I have to say that we skipped the dockyard because the kids were getting bored and wanted to go to the beach...so if that's where they get the baked goods, then that could be why we didn't get any

Actually the reason I mentioned this is that knowing how well Gordon took care of us personally I would think he would want to know about how those he entrusted to work for him didn't perform to his standards. Anyway I think its too bad you did not have a chance to be escorted by him personally. There were 7 of us and we all were very pleased. And the pastries were amazing. :D Cheers and happy cruising. Larry :)

We just returned from Antigua and had a great tour with Gordon. It was just the four of us and we were able to customize our times at each stop. He was very knowledgable of the island and gave us a lot of insight by way of answering our many questions. Someone above asked about the beach... not sure if it varies by tour or by day, but we went to Long bay which was beautiful..near Devil's Bridge. A few vendors on the beach but not that many. There was snorkleing off the right side of the beach (when facing the water) that was ok... not the best, but the beach was beautiful.

Friends of ours booked Gordon for the four of us in January. Did we enjoy the tour? Yes. Was it what it was suppose to be? No. For one thing it was a private tour and we had four other people from another ship with us. The other ship left an hour before ours so we were cheated out of beach time unless we wanted to chance not getting to the ship on time or not doing any shopping whats so ever. Gordon gave a very informative excursion and provided us with soda and water and fruit. Like I said we enjoyed our time at Nelson's Dockyard - beautiful. The lookout points were breathtaking. Devils bridge was awesome but we were on an island and would have loved a chance to put our feet in the water, which was suppose to be part of our excursion. Would I recommend Gordon? Yes as I said the island tour is beautiful and Gordon is very knowledgable about his homeland but always make sure you are getting what you paid for. Private tour and beach time if that was your options.

We had a great time w/ Lawrence this year and have recommended him to several people and no one has had any problems.. like Gordon, he will "customize" for you... it's vacation and both of these guys do a really good job with their tours on Antigua

:::thinking I can't imagine still fretting over a tour that took place two years ago.. whew!

We had a wonderful time with Lawrence of Antigua in January.. booked on recommendation from someone on the roll call who had gone with him previously. There were 11 of us.. we went to all the great sites, he was very knowledgeable etc.. Would not hesitate to book w/ him again if went back with people who had not been and wanted an "island tour"... be sure not to miss Shirley Heights, the interpretive center, Dockyard etc.. Views are breathtaking on a beautiful day..

Caroline,

Does the cost of 35.00 without beach including getting into the nature sanctuary. I have reserved with Lawrence because of your recommendation, but wasn't sure if the price included the nature reserve or if that was 5.00 extra.

Thanks!

I booked with Lawrence and in his email confirmation he says that there is a 5.00 entrance fee to enter the national park. He also says that at the end of the tour is when you pay him cash tour with beach is 45.00 and tour without beach is 35.00

I would guess that means 5.00 extra on top of whichever tour.

I also think whichever tour you take, with the additional entrance fee - that it will be cheaper than going on the same tour with the cruise ship?

There were only 8 of us with Lawrence.. same number Gordon had.. you get what you pay for and both are good tours. Personally we went with Lawrence on a recommendation and had a wonderful time and have recommended others.. to each his own... treat people well and they will do likewise:rolleyes:

Lawrence was all about the money. It was not good at all. I will let you know how it goes with Gorden. We have hired him to drive my family and he was very upfront with me, that if there was a large group I would have Abe. I was fine with that, as I have heard wonderful things about Abe. I am pretty sure that was the name. I would have to check my e-mails. Honesty, it goes a long way.

Can those of you who had bad experience with Lawrence elaborate any? We've booked with him for our upcoming trip, and he's been lovely and very responsive to my emails.

He's been great to others here on CC either.. I wouldn't worry about it..When you read boards here on CC you will get a huge variety of opinions! And doesn't have have the same vehicle he previously used. I know lots of people who have used him and there has never been an occasion where we've picked up people along the way for lower price... both of these guys give a good tour. Just go and enjoy yourself..

Actually this is what happened. I had originally inquired about a tour with him in Jan. for our port stop in May. I did not confirm with but just asked about pricing, the vehicle, etc. Later I found out about Gordon and decided to use him and emailed Lawrence from his own website sometime in March I think to cancel. Well Lawrence was waiting for us on the dock and saw Gordon with my name card. He then thrust the first email towards me and told me I had booked with him. My efforts to explain the cancellation email went unheard as Lawrence got aggressive, agrued and followed us towards Gordons van. Finally I told him off and we went about our tour. I am not sure why this happened. Maybe as it was low season money was tighter. Anyway he was fighting me for MY business. No can do. I think if we had toured with Lawrence all would have gone well. However we didn't and this is how he behaved. Thats it.

We got married at Sandals in Antigua. Lawrence took our moms out for a tour of the island the day after we got married. They LOVED him and he was very responsive to my emails. He was courteous, on time, and was very knowledgeable about the island and its history. I would recommend him to anyone.

What did he charge them? The drivers at the port charge $20 + $5 park fee.

What is really needed to be very knowledgeable about this island. This is a postage stamp size place with not much of anything.

I thought the park presentation, where you sat down was really stupid and cheesey. What a joke.

I was on the same tour as SMILE HMB last year on the Crown (Hi Heather it's me Donna). We had 40+ CC's on our tour, & he was so unorganized, crammed us into buses with jump seats & not enough room for all of us, gave us no info or anything when we stopped at different sites. By the time we figured out what to do on our own we had to get back on the bus. I'd never ever go with Lawrence. It was so bad I've had a hard time booking group tours with others in CC groups again. Caroline our group started out small too, and we paid as much as you. He just couldn't handle the large amount of people in our group ended up being. Also at the end of the tour he tried to charge us more than we orginally agreed too. My advise would be not to go with Lawrence. Worst tour I've ever experienced in the caribbean.

How much we paid $45 with a 2 hour stop at the beach. For the tour only (3 hour or more if ou want) it's $35 but check with Lawrence. Included a coupled of local beer and some fresh fruit. You have to add $5 for the park entrance for each person.

Place we been ; Devil's bridge and the classic spot of Antigua. Clarence house, Shirley heights, Block house hill (very nice), Nelson's dockyard, Rain forest, ect.

And now the quality of the service offered. 10 on 10. That's it.

It's a guided tour and Lawrence know is island very well. If you want to encourage somebody local who is really cool and calm. If you want to feel really secure. If you want a taxi driver who will treat you with no rush. If you want to meet somebody who take great care of his people with a prompt and courteous service. Go for it without any hesitation.

We made a tour with the beach stop and Lawrence was on time at the end of the day in the parking lot near Jolly Beach (nice spot but Lawrence prefer another beach, just ask him what the best spot). Sitting in his van and calmly listen to his soccer game ahead of time. You'll feel secure to find him because you pay at the end of the tour, on your way back to your cruise ship.

We contact him via e-mail and everything work fine like it was supposed to be.

Go ahead people, try him. You wont be disapointed.

Just so you know if you talk to anyone in our CC group they would say not to go with Lawrence. I'm not picky & this is the first time I've ever been disappointed on an excursion IMO.

How many people were in your group? Did he email you just prior to your departing for your cruise to confirm again?

Thanks for posting this experience - we are taking his tour when we leave on the Emerald on Dec 10th! I don't know how many others have booked from this particular sailing. I'm travelling just myself along with my teenager so I don't want any surprises. Thanks again for posting.

We used Lawerence a few years ago and had a great time. We wanted something different and was looking into Gordon. Does Gordon answer his emails? I tried already twice in a few weeks period with different emails. Gordon may not be the right choice.

I am not sure whats up with that as he is usually prompt. I got a "stay in touch" email from him about a month ago. Maybe try again. :)
