Horrors!!! Just looked at the Seabourn blog, and see some idiot is suggesting William and Kate take over the Sojourn for their honeymoon. They had better not; some of us are hoping to be on board on their wedding day, sailing away from it all.

While my patient is asleep, I wish all of you a wonderful Thanksgiving! Though we don't celebrate this in Nederland, I think it would be a great idea to celebrate it all over the world!:)

i am new to cruise critic and have only come here as we are about to leave for a christmas cruise on seaboard. having seen your words about your husband's gout i thought i might say how terrible it is that he is in this state. having osteoarthritis and a number of years of rather chronic gout, i started seeing a specialist and now am nearly free of symptoms. i assume that you are aware of the purine chart for foods and what can be helpful and what is not. when you mention the rich life of being aboard ship, i can assure you that this has almost nothing to do with the onset of gouty arthritic episodes. the major factor is genetics and once episodes begin, the best defense is an anti-imflamitory followed with a drug to lower uric acid(allopurinol). and lots of water to flush the system. each onset of gout can further damage joints so getting on the right medication asap is best. find a very good and patient rheumatologist quickly before he ends up with kidney stones. neither of you will want to deal with that.

i know this is off topic from the thread but it can be very serious, as you already know.

Secondly I would like to wish you the best Christmas holiday ever...

And last but not least: Thank you for you advice (of which we are aware mostly). It yurned out that this time my husband had developed Erysipelas and after antibiotics and hospital for nearly a week, antibiotics in oral form again, he is still not better yet. Doctor in half an hour....

You could save yourself hundreds of $ by just foraging around the parks and empty lots in the city. Seriously, we have been debating back and forth whether to attempt it next summer if we take the Norwegian fjords cruise.It is not just the money but I also wonder if I would actually enjoy it or would I be doing it just for the novelty of it. Are you planning on dining at Noma?

We have considered that cruise also, but I freeze and although the beauty of the fjords is great...the temperature on deck makes me shiver. I felt the same way about Alaska...Remember for me, below 85 is winter, so I want to be where it is warm when it is cold here and I'll stay home when it is warm here! Might be just old bones!!

Given that we live in Arizona by choice we too are not big fans of cold weather( for us a winter day is when the temperature does not hit 60 ).So we would not go on the Norway cruise except in August( and yes, even at that I know we can expect some cool days). On the other hand, the way all of the glaciers around the world are melting I figure we had better go on this trip sooner than later. That being said, my favorite Seabourn cruises are always in the sunny Med in September and October.If you change your mind we'll look for you on board.

Sharon, I would rather you look for me in the sunny Med. Last time we did Alaska I said never again. I also am of the uneducated opinion that once I have seen a glacier, I have seen it. I looked at my Alaska pictures and I have SO many glaciers. I did write the names down...that was good. I also am enjoying the beautiful pictures that Seabournites publish of the Fjords, so take some for me. I'll be sitting by the pool in August with grandchildren having a glass of wine and being waited on (and pretending it is Seabourn) and looking forward to my crossing in November!!! P.S. I could live in Arizona also, we had two couples on our cruise from Arizona that I met Maybe we'll meet sometime. Bob loves doing four day week-ends anywhere Southwest flies!! We almost scheduled something next June there and then it worked out to be Baltimore (another SW destination, ha!) Edited by redheadednancy

(grrreat and so easy)

1 can Eagle Brand Milk

1/2 C. Cocoa

2 t. vanilla

6 1/2 C. hot water (from the tap)

Mix Heat until hot (stove-on low)

Add a handful of mini marshmallows on top

*If desired add Bailey's Irish Creme or any liquor

Good on an 'ole snowy cold day ~~or for a nightcap :p

I cool the hot cocoa mixture ~then pour it into a tight container ~place it in the fridge. When I want one cup of hot chocolate, I zap it in the microwave..... this "concotion" is much better than Swiss Miss ~

Goes well with a slice of homemade pound cake!

Reading about the Costa cruise ship that plowed into the dock in Egypt, killing 3 crew there was an interesting comment added to the article discussion:

The insurance comapny was on the hook, the ship was out of service with rebuild time 4 months or so, and the Captain was on the street."
