And I thought that 3 months before my due embarkation date was near enough to get a good deal on the F.Olsen cruise- how wrong was I? I have asked for a refund of the difference between the £6000 I paid and the ******* offer that starts at £3300. I should be so lucky - but to say I am miffed is an understatement.

I had a look at the MSC website but could not come up with the 17 night cruise Genoa to Brazil in December (Orchestra) details -could you point me in the right direction, please? Is it on their website? Best wishes, Frances.

Just came across this today. Solo inside $151, outside $174, plus gov't fee of $57.90.

Florida Resident or Senior rates (55) even cheaper.

Senior Rate Cat G Outside = $149 plus gov't

Senior Rate Cat Q or N Inside $118 plus gov't

FL Resident Cat L Inside $129 plus gov't

FL Resident Cat SO Outside $196 plus gov't

There may be other "resident" specials. I checked NC and there was a discount, just not quite as low as the FL resident rate.

Hope someone can take advantage of this bargain before the price goes up. Probably won't last very long. I just got off the Monarch Sept 7th and the food, service, and entertainment were all very good.

I'd grab it but the airfare is more than the cruise. I've always thought the Florida residents are so lucky to get these deals. The cruise lines know this is the way to fill a ship at the last minute.

Pretty much the way I felt, however, with cruiselines homeporting more ships outside of Florida, bargins can be had with a little persistence and luck. I recently found a 5 day Bermuda cruise on the Grandeur out of Baltimore which had a resident fare and only(ha) a 50% single supplement. For the barely $100/day per diem I can't think of any vacaton destination that would give me as much bang for the buck.

Happy hunting for those bargins.

There is also a residency rate for PA..$129 inside. I just went on it last week and it is a nice cruise.

Please remember the title of this thread, "CRUISE LINE Single Supplement Bargains -- Post Here". The topic is bargains offered by the CRUISE LINES... not travel agents/agencies or group cruises. Posts have been removed since they violated the Guidelines we all agreed to follow when registering for our free Cruise Critic membership.

Per the Guidelines:

Advertising Is Not Allowed On Cruise Critic

Cruise Critic has strict guidelines prohibiting blatant advertising, commercial sales and solicitation posts on all of our message boards.

Our Cruise Boards are meant to be a cruiser's exchange of advice and tips where cruisers can talk about their travels -- not a marketplace for advertising and selling services. There are thousands of cruise professionals online and if we didn't insist on a non-solicitation policy the cruise boards would be very quickly overrun with nothing but ads.

Cruise Critic defines advertising as an individual or company's attempt to generate business or other commercial enterprise, either directly or indirectly, by using our Cruise Board. Solicitation includes, but is not limited to, requests to be E-mailed, the posting of phone numbers for your business, and the referring to or posting of one's own Web site address.

There shall be no third-party recommendation of travel agencies on any forums within Cruise Critic. General discussions regarding the TYPE of AGENCY to be used to purchase a cruise will be allowed, as long as no recommendations for any source of purchase are posted.

Touting of your personal cruise agent or cruise line "personal cruise consultant" (or any other venue by which you purchase a cruise) is not allowed on our message boards. Postings that contain "tell them John sent you" will be removed without notice.

This means you should not ask about someone's travel agent, nor should you respond in kind. Offering to email someone your travel agent's name or info is also not allowed, nor is asking members to email you for the information.

Cruise Critic will remove violations of the "third-party recommendation" guideline without warning. Additional posts will result in permanent suspension of your posting privileges.

Member Cruises

Cruise Critic recognizes that our Community Members like to meet each other on board their cruises by planning a Group Cruise. We encourage our members to do so. To assist you in planning your cruise, please avail yourself of Cruise Critic's Member Cruise Program.

Decision-making discussions regarding the 'who, what, where, & when' of your group cruise are welcomed on all forums. After booking through our Program, you may continue answering questions about your group cruise on any forum here at Cruise Critic. All members booked on a Cruise Critic groups may include links and pictures to the group cruise information in their signatures. However, those booked should frequent the special forum set up just for your cruise to have "fun" until you sail!

We respectfully request that forums set up for our Member Cruises be frequently only by those who have booked the sailing.

Only official Cruise Critic Group Cruises may be promoted anywhere on our cruise forums. This includes graphics, links, banners and references to any non-Cruise Critic Group Cruise. Any promotional material posted on the forums about non-Cruise Critic Group Cruises will be removed without notice.

Final Note

Cruise Critic is a privately-owned Company and your participation within our Community is a privilege, not a right. Management reserves the right to take action against any member who is deemed to be devoted purely to disruption or consistently violates our Community Guidelines. This action will result in the complete banning of your username, e-mail address and IP address. All decisions regarding removal of posting privileges are made on a case-by-case basis, and shall remain final.

Here is a previous Announcement from our Community Manager, LauraS, that may help explain further:

The third-party recommendation of travel agents and agencies is not allowed on Cruise Critic's Message Board forums.

Posts recommending (or warning against) travel agents, travel agencies, cruise-only agencies, travel/cruise brokers, or Personal Cruise Consultants at any cruise line, or any other source where consumer can purchase travel will be removed from the boards. This also includes any comments included in signatures requesting members to e-mail you for information about your travel agencies.

Additionally, posts by members requesting such information will be removed, so please don't ask.

However, the general discussion of the merits of using a BRICK AND MORTAR AGENCY vs. an INTERNET CRUISE AGENCY vs. purchasing from the CRUISE LINE DIRECTLY will be allowed. No recommendations for any travel source will be allowed.

Travel agents who participate on the boards are encouraged to include their company name in their signature. We believe it is in our member's best interest to know which members are travel agents -- so you can best judge the content of their posts. Travel agents may not include contact information of any kind any where in their posts or profiles on Cruise Critic. (Travel Agents may not request members to e-mail them for information, or include contact information of any kind in their signatures or posts). Finally, Cruise Critic reserves the right to rescind the above in the event travel agents/agencies abuse this privilege.

We anticipate your cooperation, and thank you for your participation.

Laura

Basically, the names, web sites, etc. of travel agents/agencies or other cruise-related sites or message boards --- even if "masked" --- are not allowed in Cruise Critic message board posts. Posts asking for the name, site or further information via e-mail, or posts offering same, will be removed as well as any replies to the removed posts. The same applies to posts promoting non-Cruise Critic group cruises too.

082502btw_prv.gif, since it is impossible for the hosts/moderators and administration to see each post as they are posted, please help us per the following from the Guidelines:

We encourage you to utilize the reporting system built into the board system; you'll find a Report a Post icon located in the upper right hand corner of the posting. Use it! We will review the report and take appropriate action.

Click the Report Post red triangle icon report.gif in the upper right corner on the post you want to report so the Report Post screen will open. Type your message in the message text box, then click the Send Report button. This will generate an e-mail to all hosts/moderators assigned to the forum, or all administrators if there are no hosts/moderators assigned. The e-mail will automatically show the forum name, your user name & e-mail address, post title & link, thread title & link as well as your message. Your message will be reviewed. One of the hosts/moderators assigned to the forum or administrators will take care of it when they can.

I say "when they can" because all e-mails and Report Post e-mails to Cruise Critic are answered in order of receipt. With 486,632 members as I type this reply and e-mails being received 24/7, please be patient for any reply or action.

As our Community Manager LauraS states in the Guidelines:

... If you have any questions or comments regarding our posting guidelines or any content found on our message boards please be sure and let me know. I'll be happy to discuss them with you...

Also:

... You should also know that the discussion of our management policies and procedures -- including post deletions-- is considered off-topic discussion for our cruise boards and will also be removed without notice. As mentioned above, all decisions regarding any action taken by management shall remain final...

Per FAQ:

My posting was removed? How do I find out why?

If you have a question regarding the removal of a post or a discussion, please contact our Community Manager by clicking on the Contact Us link located on all pages of the forums. Questions posted on the forums regarding removals will not be addressed and will be removed.

Per Contact Us:

Community Guideline Issues: community@cruisecritic.com

And posted many places on the boards:

Questions, comments & concerns regarding the management of our message boards should be directed to: community@cruisecritic.com. Posts regarding these issues will be removed. Please allow at least 48 business hours for a response.

As I stated in the title of this post, this is a friendly reminder to all, again. Most of the above information has been posted in this thread before. I would hate to see this important thread closed or removed due to any further violations of the Guidelines.

Carnival has a good price on Elation, Oct. 18,2008, 5 nights out of San Diego to Cabo San Lucas and Ensenada, Mexico, plus 2 sea days.

I got a single occupancy 1A category, with automatic upgrade to 4B level cabin (nicer interior cabin), for just under $400.

For that price, I can travel with my parents in a balcony cabin-- why do they punish us for saving the work of making up 2 beds & opening more seating at dinner

Hi again.

The RCI Serenade of the Seas 12/12/2009 sailing has a good senior, single occupancy price for BALCONY cabins now. You can get one for about $915.

It's a port-intensive 7 night sailing from San Juan, to St. Thomas, St. Croix, St. Kitts, Dominica (not to be confused with Dominican Republic), Barbados, sea day, San Juan. That's 6 ports and one sea day in a 7 day sailing!

Great ship too.

Also, the ship and all the ports will have their Holidays decorations on display.

I just booked SOLO, the Radiance of the Seas out of San Diego for Nov 7-12. I booked an inside guarantee and it was $353 TOTAL. An O/V is $405, and a balcony $521. These are with no special residency rate or Senior rate, so there may be an additional discount if you qualify. It stops at Ensenada and Cabo San Lucas. I love going in and out of SD because it is SO easy. I hope this helps someone.

There was some mention of the Elation and I have also cruised on her. She is nice, but I have been wanting to sail on the Radiance Class. This will be my 7th RCI, but first Radiance Class.

I got a good senior single rate for an aft balcony of $977...with my $200 loyalty discount my total for 7 days is $777 (with those numbers maybe I should spend more time in the casino)!

This is my first time going solo but I have always wanted to give it a try. I live in the Dallas area so going out of Galveston also saves me air fare.

I am nervous....but I will never know unless I go solo at least once.

Wish me luck.

Great deal, especially with no airfare. You will love the Voyager. She is a beautiful ship.

What a treat to have a balcony. I've not had a balcony yet, when cruising solo.

I hope you will love sailing solo as much as I do. If my dh can not cruise with me, I much prefer cruising solo.

mnh,

Good for you. Just want you to know that I have cruised solo twice now and have had a great time on both cruises. Once you get your first under your belt it will open up many new cruising options. That is also a very good price for a balcony on the Voyager. She is a beautiful ship.

Good luck to you.

I went solo for the first time a few weeks ago and had a great time. It's really up to you whether or not you enjoy yourself.

I met another solo female traveler on one of the shore excursions. I asked her why she didn't go to the singles get togethers and she said she couldn't be bothered. Oh well. lol

I did go to a singles meet up for lunch but one of the woman made an antisemetic remark and I didn't want to have lunch with her.

I did enjoy myself on the Voyager of the Seas. I decided when I wanted to go to a show, when I wanted to eat breakfast, lunch etc and where I wanted to dine.

Enjoy!!1

maggie.... I sent you a response on the thread you started about your daughter having a drink on the cruise with you at 19 when she is already legal in your country. I tried to keep the wolves at bay on that thread....most of those people were nuts..... who definately do not have not gone through the teenage years or they are childless. My daughter is 20 and I go once a year with her and once a year without her. I am going in a Carnival 1a room with two portholes from Miami on a 7 day western Carribean cruise (Costa Maya, Belize, Cozumel, and Grand Cayman) I paid $564.00 including goverment taxes and fees. I'll save even more not having my daughter with me....because in the end I always end up splurging for her....even whebn I shouldn't. (I saw on the other thread that your daughter had saved the money for her portion of the cruise by working at McDonalds....I give you credit...sounds like you raised a great kid....)

Hello,

Is there anyone out there who could help me regarding Single Supplements? I've only been on one cruise (Alaska), so I'm a newbie. I want to go on the Star Princess, leaving Buenos Aires on Sunday January 17, 2010, for 16 days, including 4 days in Antarctica, returning to Buenos Aires on Tuesday February 2, 2010. I called Princess, but they said I have to pay the double rate, just for myself...ouch. Help....

Thanks,

Bob,

you may want to check out Holland America's itineraries. Their solo rates average around 140-150% sometimes less. You can go to the Holland America site to get an idea of the itineraries, etc. If you decide to book, shop around. Typically, you can find a much better deal than going directly through them.

I am not surprised that this itinerary is 200% with Princess. Typically their solo rates are around 200%. Sometimes you can find them lower, but, not generally. If the ship is not selling well, you may get lucky, and get a lower rate. Keep checking the rate daily, and especially after final payment is due(70 days before cruise date).
