lovebug33 Posted June 1, 2009 #1 Share Posted June 1, 2009 Can you use your passport in stores as ID when you make credit card purchases? I was stupid enough to let my license lapse, and with new homeland security issues, I was issued a temporary huge old piece of paper as my license until I get the new one in THIRTY days! It is a huge pain to carry around and I won't be driving. Do you think I could just use the passport instead? TIA!
Atomica Posted June 1, 2009 #2 Share Posted June 1, 2009 Yes, a passport will work - they're looking to make sure you are who you say you are.

montekat Posted June 2, 2009 #5 Share Posted June 2, 2009 Sure, I have done it many times, just for the fun of it and to see the expression of the clerks when they want my driver's license. A passport is considered universal ID.
Rare Essiesmom Posted June 2, 2009 #6 Share Posted June 2, 2009 Time was when that's what they asked for, especially since driver's licenses did not have pictures on them. EM
satxdiver Posted June 2, 2009 #7 Share Posted June 2, 2009 I have often used my passport when flying on domestic flights. The TSA looks at it quicker than they do the DL which they closely examine. I have also used it as an ID here in the USA when asked by a merchant for a credit card purchase. As stated below the passport is an international form of ID recognized everywhere. Don't leave home without it!
