Good morning, all! Happy Presidents Day! DS and BIL have a condo on a golf course. Presidents Day is their CanAm tournament, a friendly rivalry between snowbirds from both countries on the course. A number of condos around the course are sporting the flag of one country or the other today. It has been busy here, and my normal routine is completely out the window. Dinner tonight is Truffle Parmesan sweet potato fries and BBQ chicken. No mixing it in a bowl with kale, though. I see I’ve missed a number of days, and just pop a comment in in the evening. We’ve had a lot of fun, and socialized more than at home. We come home the day Canada’s border requirements relax. Unfortunately, we do still have to test, so I’m hoping we’re both negative or we’re stuck in a hotel near the border for an extra ten days! @StLouisCruisers Sandi, best of outcomes for both you and your niece. What an awful thing to happen to her!

Prayers for, all, those facing nasty weather. It’s lovely here in La Quinta, although the temperature is supposed to drop in a couple of days.
Happy Monday, especially to those facing a week aboard a BHB in lieu of brandishing a snow shovel!

Good morning all. Thanks Rich and all who share. I went out and yelled hoodie hoo at noon yesterday but I guess it didn’t listen. Snow is coming in with a dangerous cold front. Prayers are with those in our Dailyite family that need them and cheers for many others. I count my cheers as the snow is beautiful and I’m inside with my new heater that keeps it nice and toasty and there is plenty of room for safety if the river rises.

Yesterday was an all around good day. An early morning FaceTime with DD and youngest grand, our grand daughter wanted to speak with "her people" her Mother told us.  Youngest grand is < 6 months old...  Morning inside worship (masked, seated apart and sign up in case someone gets covid and all can be notified), most surprising to see and sit with our children's babysitter, a friend for > over 40 years. We haven't seen her in  > 2 years.  Lots of happy tears. After lunch, joined DIL, her parents and our grands for a San Diego Symphony Free Community Concert (masked, proof of vaccine ❤️) at the beautiful Greek Orthodox Church in Cardiff-by-the-Sea. A fine setting for beautiful music, Edward Elgar, William Grant Hill, and W. A Mozart.  After the concert, we gathered in the background & enjoyed small bites of DS's homemade pizza, charcuterie board, juice, still and sparkling waters. And wine (thank you @Ger_77 ).  Next Sunday afternoon, hope to be boarding the Zuiderdam! 🌴

Good morning everyone and Happy Monday and President’s Day.

The meal suggestion sounds and looks good. Thank you for the recipes Debbie @dfish.  Last night I made Salad Nicoise with the Olive oil poached tuna I had made Saturday. I thought it was really good.

All the components:

Good morning from a very cloudy, and very windy Quartzsite.  This is the third week this month we've had high winds.  Today and tomorrow the winds are supposed to 20-30 mph with gusts to 40 mph.  Wednesday the winds drop to 10-20 mph with our best chance of rain at 24%.  Checking the 10-day forecast, either March is getting here early or it won't come in like a lion as the winds will be 10-15 mph next week.  Our highs will drop into the upper 50s to upper 60s for a few days, but it's still a lot better than what many of you have been experiencing.

Happy Presidents Day to the US Dailyites, and Happy Family Day to the Dailyites who celebrate it.  My first thought about Card Reading Day was tarot cards, but when I looked it up, it's about greeting cards.  20-30 years ago, I was pretty good at multi-tasking, but now, while I can multi-task simple things, I try to tackle one thing at a time.

Love the Shakespeare quote, and it's one we all should try to emulate.

I appreciate all the recipes @dfish Debbie gives us, but we'll pass on the meal.  I like baked sweet potatoes and sweet potato fries, but to me kale and chickpeas would ruin a good sweet potato.  I'll take a regular mai tai while sitting on the patio of the Royal Hawaiian Hotel and watching the sunset behind Diamond head.  The wine sounds good.

We have not been to Gisborne, NZ, so will enjoy any pictures anyone cares to share with us.

@kazu  Jacqui, glad you made it to the hospital and back yesterday.  What an angel you have in your neighbor.  Stress could be a factor in your feeling tired even after get to sleep until 6 am, and Marley could be sensing your stress and it's affecting him.  Hope you both can relax this afternoon with a good wine (for you) and treats (for Marley).  As usual, I liked all the memes, but especially the one about the bridge.  I'm going to copy it and send it to a friend who spends the winters in Mesa, AZ.

@cat shepard  Ann, I love the animal pictures with the babies.  I always enjoy watching shows where the elephants take care of all the babies.

@Cruzin Terri  Terri, YEAH!  👋 to pain free.

@JAM37  Julia, Bon Voyage tomorrow.  🍾

@ottahand7  Hope you both test negative this afternoon.

Lenda

It got into the 40s (F) here yesterday so I fired up the grill for cheeseburgers. Sounds pedestrian but they were a treat since it has been quite awhile since we had any! Sirloin tip roast (with broccoli and roasted potatoes) is planned for tonight along with the last slices of apple pie.

And now they are predicting snow for the next few days. I guess I should have shouted Hoodie Hoo louder...

Tomorrow will be interesting. We are converting our wood-burning fireplace to gas and the insert gets installed bright and early tomorrow - I'll plan on posting pictures when it is done.

Good morning, my Daily friends!  Mother Nature presented us with a surprise this morning - snow!  Not even the weather lady forecasted it...  The poor crocuses will be squished, but I can hear drips in the downspout so I don't think it will last long.  Happy Presidents' Day in the US and Happy Family Day here in Canada.  I got a card the other day thanking us for the 33 pounds of stamps we donated to cancer, but unfortunately it said to me and Pat, so I will have to send them a card in reply to tell them the stamps actually were from our senior centre.  Also sending a card today to cousin Vicki - we are trying to do that regularly, just to let them know we are thinking of them.

Hi everyone.  I am home from my Mohs surgery and he said the first pass was good.  I'm clear, so he gave me 3 stitches underneath and 8 on top, all dissolvable.  I won't even have to go back for a recheck.  I should keep ice on it 20 minutes of every hour today, but the bandaging is so thick I don't know if it will help much.  They said I could end up with a black eye due to blood draining downward but that's okay.  I'm not going anywhere.  Thank you for your prayers for my surgery.

Meanwhile DB texted me this message moments ago.  It's an update on Jennifer.  Apparently she had a restless night.  But this is the latest:

CT this am. No changes from yesterday's scan. Subdural hematomas right side & front. No additional bleeding seen in brain. She doesn't really remember anything from yesterday.  Has been sitting up they let her have liquids.

Thanks to everyone for praying for her.  We all appreciate it!  Updates as they come.

Meanwhile I will go back and start at the beginning reading here.

Good afternoon. Thanks for the Daily.

Happy President's Day; I grew up with separate Washington and Lincoln Birthday holidays. Happy Family Day too. I have old cards I save from BFF so I could read those. Seems I'm always multitasking these days. Great quote.

I'll pass on the meal. The drink and the wine sound good. Time to buckle down on cleaner eating for a while.

I've been to NZ but not this port.

It's sunny and going up to 62 today. Of course rain midweek and snow by week's end. I'm not doing too much as I've had heel plantar fasciitis for a few weeks that's painful. It eases up some during the day. I mentioned it to the rheumatologist. I don't like taking ibuprofen all the time, so I don't. Maybe an injection if it doesn't clear up. I am doing stretching exercises and probably should ice it.

@kazu Good that you got to sleep in a bit. How nice of your neighbor to shovel your sidewalk! Safe travels to the hospital today.

@StLouisCruisers Good news about your procedure! Continued prayers for Jennifer.

@rafinmd I hope visiting your brother's gravesite brought some peace and comfort.

@summer slope I'm getting my haircut Wednesday. The shop did have a mask policy for all; hopefully it's still in effect, but I'll wear mine regardless.

@ottahand7 Wonderful pictures! Good luck with the test today.

@irishjim Prayers that Sheila gets a good report tomorrow, and early Happy Birthday!

Prayers for the Care List and a toast to the Celebration List.

Stay safe everyone.

Hello Everyone!

@StLouisCruisers, I'm grateful to hear that your niece is awake and alert.  Along with the rest of us, I hope that rapid and expert medical attention will return her to her normal.  What a terrible scare for all concerned.  And - for you, I'm happy that your MOHS went well!

The food porn has been unusually good today!  Thanks to all who post mouth-watering pictures.

I love reading the posts from all who are enjoying life on a ship right now.  @rafinmd, I especially hope that sea air and a gently rolling deck are giving you the rejuvenation you deserve!

I think ours is really going to happen FINALLY!  Fewer than 5 weeks until the Mighty K; I'll be working on my packing list soon.

Weather report:  A couple of beautiful but windy days in NE OK.  Highs in the 70's!  Winter storm watch starts Wednesday morning.  Yep, Winter Storm.

Best to all!

Vanessa, @JazzyV, I had terrible plantar fasciitis for years, from major dog walking!  My doctor first sent me to get orthotics in my walking shoes, and told me to wear them even when getting out of bed at night to go to the bathroom.  After months of that and no improvement, she finally sent me to a sports doctor, the first thing that doctor did did was measure my legs and told me one leg was a little bit longer than the other.  So I had to get a lift in my left shoe.  Now, when I'm shopping for shoes I have to look for ones that I can remove the insoles from, so I can put in the lift and the orthotics..   On one cruise I was too vain to use the orthotics and lift, and I got a stress fracture in my longer leg!  Now I follow the rules...  (and no more plantar fasciitis, thank heavens!)

Happy President's Day here in the US and Family Day to provinces who celebrate!  It's a foggy morning here in the PNW (but quickly disappearing).  Better than what's coming down up north (snow).  We've had some "frozen mix" aka sleet/hail and I felt bad for all the crocus blooming now.  We're going to get down into the high teens for lows this week though!  I keep picturing that meme of the daffodil bulbs who think it's spring....as does one lone daffodil in my yard every year!

I think I did "single tasking" last night when I spent quite awhile looking for an ocean get-away to book for the grandsons' birthdays this summer.  I finally found something good that hits all my requirements.

I'll pass on the meal, drink and wine, and haven't been to NZ (yet).  Dinner tonight will be pulled pork sandwiches and salad.

Gisborne isn't on the itinerary for the Grand Australia either, so it's highly unlikely I'll ever get there.  I look forward to any photos.

@rafinmdRoy I'm glad you were able to visit your brother's grave and hope it brought you some comfort.

@StLouisCruisersSandi so glad to hear that your surgery went well.  Continued prayers for your niece Jennifer.

@kazuJacquie how wonderful to have helpful neighbors who shovel your walk!  Glad also that you were able to sleep a little later today.

@JazzyVVanessa when I had Plantar Fasciitis after trying everything else, the only thing that helped me was wearing a boot for a few weeks.  No problems since.

My DS had plantar fasciitis and did not get pain relief until he got the boot. It has been that way for most people I have treated over the years.

I had it many years ago (like 30+) but it was more mid-foot. I had an old school PT friend who did deep massage with ice. He tried ultrasound, but that was too painful. Since then it really hasn't bothered me. I have worn orthotics for years due to pronating; I wear them all day every day and never go without shoes. I haven't worn sandals since, because of that. I may see my Ortho doc for my knee (haven't been because of Covid) and will also ask about the heels.

I have a boot from when I had a stress fracture several years ago (after walking about 15 miles in a day around NYC). Maybe I'll try it.

I have had plantar fasciitis off and on over the years, mostly from volleyball and tennis. Orthotics certainly helped. But the thing that worked for me was a "night splint" -

25120194642Ovation-Medical-Posterior-Night-Splint-P.png

You wear it while sleeping and it keeps your plantar fascia (tendon that forms your arch) stretched out. It really helped with the excruciating heel pain that I would have with those first few steps in the morning. I am the wrong kind doctor (I cure polymers, not people), but I think that without the splint your plantar fascia relaxes while you sleep and the sudden stretching when you first put weight on the foot aggravates the inflammation where it attaches at the heel.

There are a variety of stretching exercises that help, too. Most are readily found by searching the internet (webMD, Mayo...)

Knock on wood - I have not had a flare-up for quite some time. I play tennis at least twice a week so my orthotics appear to be working!
