Sneakers in Specialty Restaurants
cruiserbear55 replied to dolls123's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
That's how I go through life. Lost and confused!! Seriously, in all my days I have never heard that term. Up this way, they're just called sneakers. Must be a regional thing, like tonic, pop, or soda. Or subs, hoagies, or heroes. -

Yet another question about bringing wine onboard
cruiserbear55 replied to schmoopie17's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
Sorry, just kidding with the feet remark. Couldn't resist! I think the hand carry was Bird Travels remark to Cruisemom67 that if she took ten bottles of wine onboard at embarkation, she would have to HAND CARRY each of them, which would be quite a chore. My take. Anyone else? -

I don't care what they dress me in before they cremate me. I'm not going to be there so it makes no difference!! Like you, I don't own a suit, or even a sportcoat. Gave that c**p up years ago!! -

Have worn (nice) shorts, button down shirt, and sneakers to dinner at Cagneys more times than I can remember. Never had any sort of a problem. That being said, about ten years ago we were on the Dawn on the Boston to Bermuda run. Group of ten. One of the couples had spent the day in Hamilton, and he had bought a really nice pair of Bermuda shorts. Well we had reservations for a table for ten that night in the main dining room, the Venetian. My buddy shows up in his brand new Bermuda shorts, a nice shirt, and a pair of those knee socks the Bermudian men wear.( and shoes). Well, you can imagine the look of shock on his face when they told him he had to go back and change into pants. You would think that when you are in Bermuda, do as the Bermudians do. But NCL didn't see it that way. Still shake my head over that one!! -
NCL sailsafe page specifically states three days for naat /pcr test ( Wednesday for Saturday embark); two days for antigen test (Thursday for Saturday sailing). That is until 9/2/22. After that , those with proof of vaccination will not need a negative covid test; unvaccinated pax will need a negative naat/pcr or antigen test within three days. These rules apply to those twelve years old and older. Your best bet is to follow the requirements as set forth on the NCL Sailsafe site. Don't take the word of fellow CCers as gospel. We can all make mistakes, myself included, or not be up to date on a specific subject. Good luck!!

We're talking semantics here. RosieRoo is correct in saying the TA is good for thirty days. If Bermuda posts your sailing at exactly the thirty day mark, and you apply and receive it back the very same day, it would be good for thirty days. (If you apply on the first of the month and sail on the thirtieth, that means the TA was good for thirty days). njhorseman is also correct saying it is NOT good for thirty days. As an example, if you were cruising on the fourteenth of the month, and applied for the TA on the seventh, the TA would be good for that cruise only. If you had another cruise booked seven days after the end of your first cruise, the TA would now be invalid and you would have to apply for a new one.

9 days before cruise. Still no Bermuda entry email

Our last sailing was in April to Bermuda. Back then, you had to upload your vaccination proof plus your negative covid test to their website. Negative covid test documentation couldn't be sent in until two days before embarkation.( In our case, Wednesday for a Friday sailing). Well, come Thursday evening around six o'clock we still hadn't received the BTAs, so had to get on the phone to Bermuda. After starting at eighteenth spot in their phone system, thirty minutes later I finally got ahold of someone. She, a very nice rep, took care of the problem and e-mailed our documents. Problem solved!! So, if you get down to five or six days and haven't heard from them yet, give them a call.Just make sure you use the toll free number. I made the mistake of using the first number on their site. Cost me $75.00 for the call!! -
When are you cruising? Pre September third, or after? If before, Bermuda dropped the requirement that you had to send them a negative covid test within two days of embarkation. You still had to apply for the Bermuda Travel Authorization, pay $40.00, and submit your vaccination info. You then had to take the covid test within two days of sailing to board the ship, which Bermuda recognized. After and including September 3, NCL is no longer requiring covid testing if you can show proof of vaccination. ( For unvaccinated pax, they need a negative covid test.) Bermuda authorities have previously stated that the testing requirement would not be dropped until March 2023 at the earliest. That being the case, you'll still need to take a pcr test at least four days or an antigen two days before embark. Whether you'll have to submit the test results to Bermuda, or show it to a rep at the port is anybody's guess. Hope this helps.

Port or Starboard cabin selection at Bermuda Navy Yard port
cruiserbear55 replied to AMWH's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
We have now cruised there ten times. Six on starboard side, four on port.Of those ten cruises, we have docked facing the Dockyard nine times. Not that we had any knowledge ahead of time. It's just luck!! It could be anything from required maintenance on one side or the other which requires dock access; could be running and testing the life boats; could be the Captain decides to turn the boat when he/she leaves instead of arrives; or a myriad of other reasons. One things for sure- it's always nice to watch the pier runners from your balcony!! -

NCL switching from Pepsi to Coke Products
cruiserbear55 replied to jabader's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
NCL recently raised the price of the soda package from $7.95 a day to $9.95 a day plus 20% gratuity. ( From $66.78 to $83.58 per week on a seven day cruise.) How long before some bean-counter in corporate puts two and two together and realizes Coke outsells Pepsi? And then starts thinking that it must be a premium product so NCL should be charging more for the soda package. As Del Rio said this week, onboard spending is their biggest profit center. Batten down your wallets, the price increase is coming! -

Also, 125 days for club balconies, and 130 days pre-embark for suites and haven. -
I agree that I would never try an upgrade to a mini-suite on a Jewel class ship because there are so many cabins you don't want to end up in. That being said, if you could choose your cabin anywhere on the starboard side under the spa, library, card room, salon, or photo gallery; and anywhere on the portside under the spa, those cabins, to me, are some of the best cabins on the ship.Just don't book under the fitness center!! Made that mistake once, and the pounding of feet on the treadmills at 6:00AM was not a welcome sound!!

Have you ever actually taken a bath on the Pearl in a mini-suite? The bath tubs always reminded me of a mummies sarcophagus. Wide at the shower end and extremely narrow at the other. They were bad enough trying to get in and out to take a shower. I always thought you'd have to be a contortionist to get in and out of the tub to take a bath. Or a very small person, like a child. Anyone with a little girth- fuggetaboutit!!

Prepaid Gratuity Not Available to Add to Booking
cruiserbear55 replied to mickeychicky's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
Was that $155.00 figure derived from a ten day cruise at $15.50 daily per person? Just trying to figure the math. Anyway, rates are now up to $16.00 per day for studios, insides, ovs, and balconies: $18.00 per day for club balconies ( mini-suites), and $20.00 per day for suites and haven. Always book through CAS on the phone so don't know about adding gratuity payments online. But as shof515 stated above, it can be done. -

I trust you've never actually tasted battery acid! It also does a great job getting rid of the corrosion on your car battery. Not only does it taste great, but has so many other uses!! -

My DW just said DelRio must have heard me bitching all these years about having to drink Pepsi instead of Coke!! As stated above, happy days are here again! Back in the day ( before 2016) I would always bring two cases of 16oz. Coke on board. I would drink two of the six packs through the week, and give the rest to our room steward and casino personnel. They were quite appreciative to get a break for a little while from drinking the "other stuff"!! -
New (to me) process for booking dining.
cruiserbear55 replied to Catchum's topic in Norwegian Cruise Line
Lots of folks have had that same problem lately, including myself. The system won’t let you book more than one time at any specialty restaurant. You have to call an NCL rep to do it for you.
