  1. What are the cutbacks and why is Carnival targeting Seabourn? We have been on three cruises with Seabourn since the pandemic and there were no cutbacks. No luggage tags or boarding passes sent to your home existed before the pandemic. The restaurant being closed at times, especially in port, happened before the pandemic. We had good and bad service in the restaurant before the pandemic but only good after the pandemic. I don’t see any plot to downgrade Seabourn except in the dress code and that is being demanded by the same passengers moaning about cutbacks.
  2. Would they let a couple book these cabins. The bed looks large enough.
  3. We were assigned one as a guarantee a while ago. We are both tall and found many areas of the cabin inaccessible to us. The area to hang clothes left our clothes on the floor and no room for shoes. The roll in shower forced me to shower in the spa or flood the bathroom. We had no tub. There was a dangerous ramp out to the balcony. If you did not fully open the balcony door, the ramp was at a 90 degree angle and caused us to trip and fall at least once leaving us with large bruises but fortunately no broken bones. Be very careful in accessible rooms.
  4. SLSD, Financial distress by CCL cannot be the problem as Cunard is also under that umbrella. Why Cunard is performing so much better in the food area is really a puzzle. It is so much better than before we were blown away. The menus outside of the top restaurants were also wonderful and not much different, except for limitless ala crate options, than the top tier restaurants. Everyone we spoke to was extremely happy with the food. The only complaint onboard was the very bad internet.
  5. Did you want your room service tray to be left in the hallway until you woke up and retrieved it? Donit think they will leave trays on the floor in the hall. I have seen little tables set outside of COVID staterooms but don’t think this is available for other staterooms.
  6. When we book through Seabourn, we receive the flight locator code. We double check our seats and also watch for flight changes.
  7. The food in the Queen’s Grill on the QM2 is the best we have ever had. Everything has been cooked to perfection and no special request (except King Crab Legs) has gone unfulfilled. The Matre D is great and cooks his own special dishes table side.
  8. No priest or minister was on board on our last Easter cruise pre COVID. There has always been a rabbi and he offered services on Friday and at Friday dinners in the main restaurant. Nothing was available for Christians. Can’t speak about service for Christmas but they did have Christmas decorations up until after 1/6 as many in the crew were Greek Orthodox.
  9. It’s too bad they lost a day of the cruise taking the malcontents back to Argentina. They could have had extra landings in Antarctica, the Falklands or any other landing areas deemed safe by the expedition crew.
  10. Always look at your airline for information. Seabourn can’t keep up with the changes and expect changes up to the day of departure.
  11. Goodness, the Hillbillies would be overdressed for Seabourn’s new standard, Actually Seabourn is behind the times, few people of a younger age wear jeans anymore. Athletic leisure wear is what they wear. My husband has slacks from them and they are very comfortable. They look like normal slacks but are light weight and have considerable stretch. Most young financial executives are wearing them. They are not inexpensive but can be had for less than $125.
  12. SLDS, we had few ports because it was one leg of the world cruise. The visit to Egypt was the highlight as it included a charter flight to Luxor with an overnight there and then on to Cairo. For folks on the 100+ day cruise, they had multiple ports of call with time for overnight journeys. We were very unlucky to have missed our reason for this cruise. We later booked another cruise and toured Egypt. IT was the first QM2 passage through the Red Sea and Suez Canal so we had an escort by British warships.
  13. Everything but the little train is now functioning such as the Carousel and the Parachute Jump. It’s is very pretty! Can’t help with the U.S. Cunard site, Ikeep getting directed to the UK sites by the ships internet.
  14. I love taking the train for a cruise in NYC but things get a little wild in NYC. Ask the train conductor for a Redcap, they will take your bags and find your transport. I would hire a car as the four of you with luggage will be too much for most taxis. I recommend Blacklane but there are numerous services in NYC and be sure and mention the WC.
  15. They are in the Falklands now and have landed Zodiacs at the penguin colonies. Stabilizer issues did not impact the landings there. There are photos on the Facebook site. On our 15 cruise from Dubai to Southampton, we had two ports. Our two day stay in Alexandria was the mail port for the sailing so we had the right to be disappointed. We ended up with one port, in Greece, in 15 days.
  16. The Christmas Market cruise was 100% booked as is the current crossing. You have to know the ship and we have always found a quiet spot for reading. Osman is the QG is the best Matre D we have ever had as he is always offering to cook special meals and desserts. They was a distinct difference in passengers on the short cruise with everyone rushing about to see and do everything in 5 days. Although we are full on this last crossing people are calmer and there is no rushing about. Best food ever in our 45 years of sailing with Cunard. Internet is only good in several widely known areas, look for the routers. Non existent WI-FI in our cabin.
  17. Last night they put up the table for the Gingerbread village on QM2. Expect to see it fully assembled today.
  18. We are currently on the QM2. Very few in masks but many passengers are coughing and appear to at least have a cold if not flu or COVID. We had a table for six on the first leg from NYC and at the beginning of the next leg two table mates disappeared. We asked about them, for three days until they finally confessed that the two had COVID. We were never tested although we were clearly close contacts. Luckily we have not caught it and it has been 7 days. Guess this is a risk we all take when wandering in public ashore or at sea.
  19. It is definitely disappointing to those sailing on the Venture but on expedition cruises they should expect changes. We once took a cruise especially for a three day visit to Egypt. Didn’t happen. We drifted outside of Alexandria for a day hoping the port would open as it had closed due to severe winds. Had lots of company as all ships bound for that port were waiting outside. The Captain had to finally give up and we headed to Greece and had an extra day there. We had been on the ship from Dubai and had no ports until Greece. We were very disappointed and had to plan another cruise to visit Egypt. We were refunded port fees, that’s it. Now we don’t count on a visit to a particular port and are never disappointed.
  20. I believe most have heard of the additional Viking accident on their new ship. While returning to Ushuaia they were hit by a Rogue Wave. Four cabins had their windows broken in and one women from the U.S. was killed. This happened while they were returning because of the passenger with the broken leg.
  21. Glad Seabourn is opting for safety. As we all know there have been deaths this year and major accidents on Antarctic voyages. In a normal year many ships don’t make it to the Falklands and South Georgia may be almost as difficult. It’s an Expedition cruise and is inherently dangerous. If sailing without the stabilizer was safe I am sure the Captain would have continued with the original itinerary.
  22. Cunard offers breakfast and lunch in their Suite restaurants (Princess no Queen’s) Grill every day of every sailing in port or out at sea. I believe the MDR also offers the same. If you want white linen service every day of your sailing this is the line to choose.
  23. Don and Iain would love a crossing on the QM2, there is no other experience to match the Queens Grill. They have said they have Cunard on their “short list”. The only negative would be the more formal dress especially on gala evenings but Don and Lain dress very well even on informal Celebrity. I enjoyed the photo of the long inside passage on the Solstice. On the QM2, on Deck 9, we have counted 960 steps from the Commodore Club to our cabin aft of stairway D. A little less than 3 times around the complete promenade on Deck 7 is one mile.
  24. We are on this voyage on this voyage and are told it is sold out by passengers wanting to bring additional family members. Could be that some cabins are held back for quarantine. Some passengers may want to be settled into another cabin if they test positive while cabin mate is testing negative.
  25. Osman is very attentive on the current sailing. He asks if he can do anything special at our table at each lunch. Five out of six days he has prepared appetizers and entrees for us. Tonight we are trying Peking duck. One of our table mates says the steak tartare is the best he has ever had. The food is almost faultless on this crossing, much better than before COVID.
