Question: Did Viking raise your Extension price after booking?
OneSixtyToOne replied to TravelerABC's topic in Viking Ocean
Interesting. 4400 + 900 = 5300 From the OP's description it sounds like any or all of the following occurred: They had the wrong price listed on the Best of Australia The Sydney extension sold out and the Best of Australia was substituted There was some confusion as to what was actually booked -
You’re not off base. In the past I’ve tracked promotions of cruises we have taken and in many cases different things were discounted with different promotions (air, cabin upgrades, free SSP) and the net price was in the ballpark. It’s part of the marketing strategy to target customers. Different perceived value for different folks.

Question: Did Viking raise your Extension price after booking?

We also have taken many extensions and have never seen this before. It could be that it was actually a pricing error on the website. Depending on where you live you might covered by consumer protection laws. Some jurisdictions require a company to honor a publicly published price, regardless of error. -
You might meet the conditions for obtaining a 2nd passport. It’s rare but possible. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/have-passport/second-passport-book.html#:~:text=A second passport book is,information as your other passport.

Alaska and the Inside Passage - Pristine Alaska Extension change
OneSixtyToOne replied to dwlmg's topic in Viking Ocean
I suggest you check your invoice. It contains your itinerary. A new one can be requested on MVJ. -
One other variable that I just encountered, equipment change. We had flights all set (not ticketed yet) then got a notification from the airline that the type of aircraft was changed and we had to confirm the changed leg or change flights. The change didn’t really impact our seats so we re-confirmed. We are now ticketed and ready to go.

Viking pre-excursion in Bangkok - badly organized, waste of time
OneSixtyToOne replied to Steerpike58's topic in Viking Ocean
We took the same extension and 100% agree. It was a terrific experience. Here is my writeup: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2906353-almost-live-viking-sky-journey-to-antiquities-jan-2023/ -

WWC24 is the current promo. Just received the 24/25 WC brochure last week. Expires April 30, but will probably be extended.

I seem to recall you have about 2+ hours of free time in Bruges. Here is a tip for Portsmouth. If you take the included tour, you can ask to be let off at the Historic Dockyards. IMO the Mary Rose exhibit is a must see, as is the tour of Nelson’s flagship Victory. The shuttle stop back to the ship is a short walk from the entrance.

The new iPhone has a “fast” charger (more amps) so it uses a different plug on the charger side. Both chargers are compatible, but the old one takes longer to charge. The iPhone side is either lightning or USB-C. USB-C is the new standard and because of EU lawsuits, Apple is eliminating the lightning connector.

FOMO and perceived premium value. Meanwhile on the Expedition ships, every night is lobster night.

Here’s a tip for fixing the upside down orientation that occurs sometimes on CC photo uploads. If the picture appears wrong, open the photo on your phone, edit it with a rotation, save it, edit it again to the correct orientation, save again, then upload it again. This seems to correct the issue. Not sure why CC confuses the orientation. It might have something to do with the orientation of the camera when the picture was taken and the phone automatically corrects when viewing.

There are typically a few special menus during a cruise where they have a theme, usually highlighting something related to the itinerary. There is always a special seafood theme but it’s not predictable. It is usually available in both the World Cafe and Restaurant. For the big end of cruise event, there is a party held on the pool deck.

A clarification. Angora goats produce mohair, Angora wool is produced by rabbits.

At the coop they go into detail about the weaving and show you how to tell that it is hand weaved. The Kurds use a double knot technique and you can observe the process. The weavers attend a state run school to learn the technique. All the rugs have slight flaws and no two are 100% identical but do follow traditional tribal patterns. The wool is all Turkish Angora goat and dyed with natural, traditional dyes. If you purchase one, they have you sign the back and take a picture to ensure what is delivered is the rug you bought. We also have some machine weaved rugs at home and the difference is obvious when you know what to look for.

We visited the coop on our way back from Ephesus. The factory stores are literally across the street from the cruise terminal. Viking also provided a list of vendors that had been approved and included home delivery. We were told that the factory store employees do not work on commission. The government subsidizes the industry in order to train and employ the Kurds and keep the traditional hand weaving industry alive.
