  1. We were just on a Viking cruise to Italy in January. There are no restrictions in place.
  2. FYI We leave for this cruise in 12 days. I will be live posting. Check the boards for it.
  3. It's also possible they will receive carbon offset credits like Tesla does.
  4. Every profession talks in its own language. To a musician “flat” means something specific, to the rest of us, it’s derived from the idiom “falling flat” to indicate the performer missed the mark and underwhelmed the audience.
  5. I am looking specifically at the South America & the Chilean Fjords itinerary for our next cruise and noticed that this doesn't look like that great of a deal at all. The promo is for Dec 2023 - Jan-Feb 2024 but the price of the V1 is $1000 more than a DV1 on cruises for Nov-Dec of 2024, so the "Free Upgrade" is marketing smoke and mirrors. A DV1 in Nov will cost $100 less than the "promo" in Jan. The $1000 OBC is really the only part that makes this attractive in any way but you could be paying up to $1000 more for the room than in Nov-Dec. Prices go back up in 2025, so the sweet spot seems to be late 2024 without a promo code.
  6. If you phone supports eSims you can buy and install one before you go. I recently used one that was good for all of Europe, $13 for 30 days. Other locations and lengths available.
  7. I have never taken the train to Portsmouth, but I highly recommend visiting the Mary Rose Museum and Nelson’s flagship Victory. The Mary Rose is one of the most impressive displays I have ever seen. When doing our tour of Portsmouth on another cruise they mentioned that rail lines between London and Portsmouth were once the fastest in the country because the ship captains would have to travel to and from the Admiralty in London. The train terminates right near the entrance to the attractions. As far a tours in London and outlying areas, I highly recommend London Walks. They have dozens of fascinating walks as well as day trips. Their day trip to Salisbury Cathedral and Stonehenge is excellent.
  8. We were considering this extension for a future cruise. What was your schedule like? It seems like you would be on multiple planes all day.
  9. It’s been my experience that it is credited to your original payment method. It takes a few days to clear and show on your credit card account. If you book another excursion it will be a separate transaction and a separate charge. I recently did this and had a credit showing for a few days until everything cleared various accounting systems.
  10. On our last cruise we had nothing available when DV reservations opened. I kept checking every day and eventually we were able to book a table for two. As I’ve pointed out before, we had no problem once on board. Plenty of tables available.
  11. Walk up, it’s on a hill. Yes, it’s a marvelous place to visit. One highlight is the room design by Christopher Wren for Issac Newton to make his observations.
  12. Since COVID, the tables for two for DV advanced reservations have been severely scarce. As I and others have noted, there were plenty of tables available when on board. Since our cruise in January (probably because of the many complaints Viking has received) the reservation system now allows advanced shared reservations. As other people have noted there seems to be a disconnect between MVJ and what’s actually available on the ship. Loosening up their system to allow shared dining seems to be their short term solution. We have shared reservations for our cruise next month but I fully expect tables for two to be available.
  13. Many modern phones support eSims and can be purchased online before you leave. There are many vendors available and many people on this forum have used Airalo. CDR2001 covered everything well. I’ll just add that the transportation to the hotel will be dependent on how many people arrive. On our last cruise we arrived late into Athens and we’re the only Viking guests. We met the Viking host after we exited baggage claim and she escorted us to the driver of a private car service. At other times it’s been a small van or a coach bus. It all depends on the number of people arriving.
  14. If you’re ever in Greenwich, be sure to see the Harrison clocks at the Royal Observatory.
  15. The US FAA has ruled that AirTags are not a hazardous material as has Lufthansa Airlines. https://www.travelersunited.org/can-air-travelers-use-apple-for-luggage-tracking/
  16. Not true. Coffee/tea is available 24/7 in the World Cafe. On departure day, the Living Room is open at 4:45 AM. Normal opening is 6:00 AM. Room service is 24/7. Normal daily schedule:
  17. Unfortunately river cruises book early and trying to find 3 cabins can be problematic unless you book far out, which limits the discounts available.
  18. Unless there is a synchronized master clock system, having clocks in staterooms seems problematic. On our recent cruise we stopped for a day in Turkey, which is in a different time zone from Greece, but the ship remained on “ship time.” They notified people to put their phones on manual time zone selection to prevent them from changing automatically. Having a standard hotel style alarm clock in staterooms might cause more confusion and cause passengers to miss excursions, all while blaming Viking. If the staterooms were designed with a centralized clock system, that is another matter, but they are not.
