  1. Just wanted to add a quick postscript. Last weekend we visited the Getty Villa which is modeled after Villa dei Papiri at Herculaneum which was owned by Julius Caesar’s father-in-law. They also have some of the frescoes. If you can’t make it to Naples, come to California. Enjoy the photos.
  2. If you book air with Viking they also include identification stickers to wear at airport arrival.
  3. FYI there is a generic River Cruising category that covers VRC questions. https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forum/115-river-cruising/
  4. Memorial Day Sale Promo code: MDS23 Ocean Antarctica Great Lakes Mississippi
  5. What Viking extension are you taking? I’ve never seen excursion reservations listed in MVJ for an extension. Typically everyone on the extension takes any included tours. On the other hand, included excursions while on ship require a reservation because Viking needs a head count for transportation and tour guides. If you are seeing a reserve button for included tours on an extension it may be they require a head count to arrange logistics.
  6. Egypt River Cruise, new departures, offer EBD https://www.vikingrivercruises.com/cruise-destinations/egypt/pharaohs-pyramids/2024-cairo-cairo/index.html?contid=30002025432_1000209554&utm_id=email_$campaign.id$&cid=EML|RSP|999|$campaign.id$&utm_source=email&utm_medium=email&utm_content=55presale
  7. FYI I previously posted the link in this post
  8. Coming in 2025, Arctic Expeditions https://www.vikingcruises.com/expeditions/cruise-destinations/arctic/index.html?contid=30002025432_1000209554&utm_id=email_vrc.54822222&cid=EML|RSP|999|vrc.54822222&utm_source=email&utm_medium=email&utm_content=55presale
  9. It does but it’s really the only thing on the tour. As I said, unless you really want to go to Omaha the Commonwealth tour offers more to see.
  10. Unless you REALLY want to go to Omaha Beach I suggest you take the Commonwealth Tour instead. It includes a stop in Bayeux to visit the tapestry. It also stops at the famous Pegasus Bridge which is where the first casualties of D-Day occurred and was featured in the movie The Longest Day. You then visit Juno Beach which has the Canadian Visitor's Center. The Viking Commonwealth excursion is much less crowded than the one going to Omaha and visits more places. We had only 8 people on our bus when we took it. IMO the Bayeux Tapestry is a must see.
  11. It’s not when the lights go out. The card enables a master power switch that allows the light switches to operate. You leave a card in the slot when you are in the room.
  12. Depends on the ship. They newer ones have 4. We were on the Sky recently and most had 3 each, but the 4th floor was closed for a week and when it opened there were 4 machines. They are probably in the midst of a retrofit. Others have reported some ships now have combined washer/dryers which tends to back everything up because a) they take forever to dry and b) when drying, fewer washers are available.
  13. Today's email https://www.viking.com/promotions/us/ocean/WCS23/20230224.html Offer WCS23: Offer valid on bookings made from May 15 to May 31, 2023. 14. Also worth a visit, the Clockmakers’ Museum is now located inside the Science Museum in Kensington. https://www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/see-and-do/clockmakers-museum
  15. Why do you assume they are in LA? When I had an issue with the air department, it was obvious it was outsourced to another country. You could be dealing which a prison phone bank for all we know.
  16. See post #660 Currently it’s EBD, the generic Early Booking Discount, which doesn’t really do anything as everyone gets the current discount if you go to the website link.
  17. We were there on the Viking extension last month. The trip to the hotel and to the ship should be no problem. Viking has chartered boats that can accommodate a wheelchair. The hotel has a ramp to the dock and is otherwise a modern facility. Viking runs shuttles from the hotel to Venice but on a limited basis. The hotel shuttle is more frequent but it’s not as wheelchair friendly (neither is Venice). You should be fine in the St Marks area as there are ramps across some bridges. My writeup and pictures of Venice and the hotel are here: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2927474-almost-live-viking-sky-mediterranean-odyssey-april-2023/?do=findComment&comment=65120808
  18. No promo code required, it’s discounted under the current 25th anniversary sale. https://www.vikingcruises.com/oceans/cruise-destinations/western-mediterranean/malta-morocco-and-the-mediterranean/pricing.html
  19. Should be noted that if you leave the ship on your own, some ports won’t let you back into the port without showing it, and you also need to tap in and out anytime you leave or return to the ship.
  20. You don’t call Uber, you use an app. I haven’t made a voice call in over a year.
  21. There is more to data connectivity than just text and email. It allows you to do everything on your phone except voice calls. It allows for full internet connectivity, browsing, app connectivity, photo syncing, map access, etc. Most of your apps require an internet connection at some point and many do it in background without you noticing.
  22. Honfleur is a great place to visit. We've been there twice with Viking. Once river and once ocean. https://en.normandie-tourisme.fr/unmissable-sites/honfleur/things-to-do/
