I’m pretty sure the estimator should have suggested boxing the antiques. I have antique tables, and every time I have moved with them, they are wrapped in moving blankets and taped.

At the very least, all the things the movers packed should be labelled, ie kitchen/ microwave. The movers should definitely have set up your dresser!

I had totally forgotten about refundable deposits. I have made contact with everyone’s favourite travel agent, who seems very nice, and I think things will be fine! 
 

Thank you for your help, it’s kind of like having someone point out that there’s an obvious solution over a cup of tea!

May be, at least, you can book the Panama canal cruise with a refundable deposit, and then -- cancel without any loss (if you're not booking a suite).

 

I know, from reading posts here and there, that people were able to move deposits.... worth a try, but my advice above to book the PC with a refundable deposit will give you a win-win 😎

The ABC islands is in a Grand Suite. A refundable deposit makes sense for the PC cruise; thanks!

I have a question, which I am sure with the depth of cruising experience on here some one can answer.

We have booked a cruise to the ABC islands in April of 2025. Then we found out that Radiance is going to do a Panama Canal cruise in October of 2025. We have a courtesy hold on an aft balcony, because there don’t seem to be any Grand Suites left. That expires in 3 days.

So, my son…he is single and relies on us to look after his (enormous) German Shepherd (he’s a nice dog, that’s not an issue) He is almost certainly going to be deployed overseas in 2025, for at least 6 months. The transition point is June or July, so we would lose one cruise, which is fine.

 I know the deposit will be lost, but what is the best way to keep one cruise? And can we transfer any money, minus the deposit, to the other cruise?
 

It would be nice if my son could absolutely say when his deployment is, but he doesn’t know, and probably won’t until August.

@firefly333 I think you cousin is right- you are moving into the condo today, and you will have a comfortable place to sleep and a chair, and presumably and fridge and stove. That’s all you really need, wait for the truck, and get everything moved in. 
 

Then you can decide on furnishings. Probably you have a junk removal service that can come up to the condo and remove what you don’t want at the right time. You don’t have to do everything at once. I’m a big proponent of sitting in a sofa to know that it’s comfortable, and custom upholstery takes time anyway, so you may as well live with the junky sofa!
 

Can you tell that I like to organize? 😁

By the way, the condo looks really nice- good choice!

Sigh. I’m eating a post hernia diet, which is pretty boring. Everything a actually want to eat is on the forbidden list!

We haven’t had to put on the air conditioning, but I have a question- ours sits on the ground. Is there an advantage to having it on a bracket attached to the house? I guess it would be easier to clean around, but functionally?
 

We have a heavy tile roof which tends to keep the house comfortable, but last year the ac was on pretty much all summer due to wildfire smoke. Hoping for a better and slightly rainier summer!

No, it was a general anesthesic. 

I’m just catching up- I had a laparoscopic hernia repair on Friday, and I was more affected than I thought I would be. Actually, my stomach was entirely above the diaphragm, so hopefully it’s all back together in the appropriate anatomical arrangement! 
 

Probably the worst part of this is the daily headaches that happen just after midnight and persist until coffee and acetaminophen. It happened before as well, so if I ever have surgery again, I’ll mention it to the anesthesiologist.
 

@SteelCityCruiser10 my condolences on losing your very handsome and good boy.

We still have my son’s enormous German Shepherd, who doesn’t really understand why I suddenly won’t play with him, but he’s a good boy who doesn’t jump. My son picks him up tomorrow.
