  1. @sonomaphil I am wondering why you started this thread in the first place. I would think you already have a desired alternate use for the space. Where did you want to go with this? I'm not looking to criticize; I just would like to know what your idea is that led to starting this topic.
  2. Not everybody wants to see the world through a tiny cell phone screen. A nice monitor makes a world of difference for many people, especially if one is reviewing multi page documents sent via e-mail. Keep the Internet Cafe. In this world of e-readers do we still need to have a library? Many would say yes!
  3. A few questions from a first time Verifly and HAL passenger: Will I be able to upload my NYS Excelsior Pass as my proof of vaccination? Do I still need to upload the CDC cards? (I now have three as the vaccinations have filled two cards due to stickers being used rather than handwritten in.) Can I upload all three if I need to? I just don't want to spend hours trying to get data into a wonky app only to save 20 minutes in a line at the cruise terminal.
  4. I'm just wondering if booked through a TA, do accepted bids cut out the TA's commission on the new booking? I understand it would keep the same booking number, but shouldn't the TA get a commission for the increased fare being paid?
  5. I wonder if you can now bid on a minisuite. 🤷‍♂️
  6. @DCThunder I'm also curious what happens when you arrive on a different day as scheduled. When were you told to have your luggage outside your door?
  7. Princess enforcing their rules?? Now that would be a switch! 🤣
  8. What do you mean, "I'm just the grandfather"? You de man!!! 😇 At the risk of sounding unethical, for the number of mocktails granddaughter could consume, I would think dad or granddads plus package could handle a mocktail or two...
  9. Let us know when you try to use it... Thanks.
  10. I've found that to be curious as well. I fall back to my belief that when something doesn't make any sense at all, there is a government agency involved somewhere. I wonder if it has something to with Canadian Customs. Is it possible that if the medallion were to be delivered in Canada that the entire cost of the cruise would be considered part of collectable duty and taxes? According to the Canada Border Services Agency: "Any item mailed to Canada may be subject to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and/or duty. Unless specifically exempted, you must pay the 5% GST on items you import into Canada by mail." More here: Importing by mail or courier - Paying duty and/or taxes on imported goods (cbsa-asfc.gc.ca) I am not professing to know the real answer but again I fall back to if it doesn't make sense, the government is involved somewhere along the line.
  11. At embarkation in FLL this past January, I was wearing my medallion on my complimentary lanyard. As I was preparing to go to the end of the entry line at the terminal, a worker saw my medallion and said that we could go right into the terminal and took us to the Platinum/Elite boarding lane for check in. If I had to pick it up at the port, I would have spent a lot of time standing in a line I didn't need to be in.
  12. Yeah, me too... It looks like they have revamped the Onboard Reservations page and have moved all promotional and Plus options to the bottom of that page where the $400 Freeplay was. I don't see anything on the Credits page except the OBC for using FCDs. I do have that printed page showing the Freeplay in my folder though.
  13. Thanks, when you mentioned their website, it prompted me to look at the website and it is made abundantly clear in the FAQs that there are no AV or HDMI ports available on the TVs. Thank you both for your quick response.
  14. With the relaxed health protocols, how much help would using Verifly be? Would HAL accept the New York State Excelsior Pass as proof of vaccination or would I need to display my original CDC cards?
  15. Has anybody brought an Amazon Fire TV Stick with them on a HAL cruise? Were there accessible HDMI ports and a way to select a different source on the stateroom TV? Will be sailing first time with HAL this Winter on Koningsdam.
  16. I have a thought and I'd like some other's opinions on this. Setting aside the issues of non-compliance with mask wearing and handwashing etc... I understand that viruses tend to have increased spread during cold/winter weather. DW & I took a Caribbean Cruise in January, and we won't be setting foot on another ship until February of next year to sail to the S. Pacific. The Alaska cruise and New England and Canada cruise we took before Covid were both cold weather sailings where the upper outdoor decks were devoid of passengers due to the cold weather. This caused more and more people to be indoors during the length of the cruise. It just seems to me that it may also be that cold weather/winter weather cruises may be more conducive to Covid spread as opposed to warm/hot weather cruises. Any thoughts on this?
  17. I'm sorry to hear that, I hope you recover quickly and your symptoms are either mild or non-existent. Get better soon!
  18. Thanks for the information, I wasn't commenting on his conduct while aboard, I was commenting on the content and tone of his video. I did not get the impression that he was encouraging others to disregard the protocols - that's all. I hope you were safe.
  19. I watched that video too. I got the impression from his video that he was commenting on human behavior in the face of stated rules. He mentioned that the Alaska sailing required masks and social distancing, but the large majority of PAX were ignoring the onboard health protocols and crew wasn't enforcing the rules - thus significantly increasing the number of cases later on during the 14 day sailing. The Captain announced stricter Covid rules and all of a sudden people started wearing masks and sip-n-cover was instituted in the venues. He was remarking how many PAX were still not complying, he was not pooh-pooing the rules, he was pooh-pooing the people who were spreading Covid by not complying.
  20. Those amounts are per person using the FCD correct? If both parties on a booking are using FCD, then it's $100 per person for a 14 day cruise in a mini?
  21. Which booster is it? Pfizer, Moderna or another? Thanks.
  22. I note that the thread is asking if Princess is possibly going downhill. How is Princess doing the same thing they have been doing since they were founded in 1965, going downhill?
  23. Especially now that the drink package covers drinks delivered to your stateroom. Before that, it was pretty costly for a very small bottle of liquor for consumption in the stateroom.
  24. I agree with @skynight I think it's less worry about bringing booze aboard and more concern about the cost of needing to recycle the bottles that are brought on. The Justice Department went after them a second time because Princess wasn't following up with the recyclers to ensure the recyclers were properly recycling the plastics. If Princess can control how much plastics they take aboard, then they can adequately budget the costs of recycling the plastics. It's probably a side benefit that it makes it more difficult for booze smugglers.
