  1. I just received notification of another change in itinerary for our June 8-June 25 Copenhagen to Copenhagen cruise.
  2. While I think it is perfectly acceptable to point out poor manners, status checking, narcissism and pushiness, it may be rocky territory when others are criticized for lacking a flair in their choices of dress, wearing polyester, or having a bad haircut. We come from all different places and cultures and for some, mode of dress has never been important--nevermind having the means to buy whatever clothing they wished. Same with bad haircuts I'm afraid. While this doesn't excuse sloppy or too too too casual dress (tank tops on men, worn out jeans with holes, etc) I think we have to give the polyester and bad haircut crowd a pass. That being said, I also find it unfortunate when a nice long itinerary is cut into one week or two week chunks and those on board are met with new passengers all the time.
  3. Part of my comment was tongue in cheek--just a bit of it. I just happen to know an engineer who loves Viking and fits my description. He would not like Seabourn. After you have sailed on both, I would like to hear your comparison.
  4. And it is very likely that many who have sailed on Viking have not sailed on Seabourn--and thus, cannot compare. I can see Viking appealing more to a certain sort of person. I could be totally out in left field, but I see Viking as the perfect line for an engineer who doesn't drink alcohol and is most interested in the destinations and the educational aspect of the cruise.
  5. Hmmm... I think I would want transparency.
  6. I read in another forum that the wine delivery that was supposed to go to your ship went to Sojourn instead. Do I have this right?
  7. It does help! Thank you so much. We'll be prepared for all weather!
  8. Blue Bell. We are Texans and no longer buy Blue Bell. I can't believe anyone does. They knew they had issues--and sold the ice cream anyway.
  9. We will be on Ovation June 11th-25th Copenhagen to Copenhagen sailing up the coast of Norway and back. Do you think the weather will be similar? Some cold weather, some warm enough to be out on the deck enjoying a meal? We are bringing rain jackets and layers. Any chance of some warm weather too? Have any of you done this itinerary in June?
  10. Interesting. I do prefer Italian and Californian wines, but that is just a personal preference. I am not a fan of Australian wines. They just taste odd to me. I've tried to like them, but mostly avoid them and I am not at all fussy. I think wines get part of their taste from the soil and minerals the grapes grow in. Of course they do. It is a bit surprising that supplies were mixed up. I get the feeling that the cruise line is a bit short handed.
  11. And does this extend into the future for cruising commencing this summer and beyond?
  12. We are just through with the horrific pine pollen at our East Texas farm--so I feel your pain . I swept and vacuumed our screened porches yesterday and it was an undertaking. This video is great. Fun to see.
  13. Does this mean you will be spending all of your time at the bar for the next seven days??? And for me, the breadsticks joke was a bit weak (not your fault of course). There are probably only some regulars (and a handful at that) who cared... Seriously, have a great week of sea days. How do you plan to spend them?
  14. It IS mystifying. We have also seen them being made when we took a galley tour. That doesn't mean a mix was not being used. I think the breadsticks are just Ok. Not really worth the calories for me and we have never tried them with butter.
  15. I think it is more likely that Seabourn is having cash flow issues. They are trying to get around this by stocking less of their usual stock on a ship at any one time--hoping to restock just in time. While this is not ideal, it is just a fact of life--and not a reason to castigate the cruise line. This is what happens when money is tight.
  16. And due to cash flow issues, inventory onboard each ship is skinnier--leaving the possibility of running out of key items.
  17. I've been thinking. The breadsticks are probably made from a pre-made mix. The kind of mix where the breadstick maker just has to add water. They are probably out of the mix.
  18. I've never quite understood it either. We've tried them, they are good--but we certainly don't need to eat them everyday we are onboard. I THOUGHT they were made on the ship. The main ingredient would be flour. Is there no flour on the ship? Hmm....
  19. Is your agent one who has a relationship with Seabourn?
  20. I totally understand this. We are going to try to MOSTLY pack in our carryon bag for our summer SB cruise. I am going to put in my black silk pants and various tops, but I am convinced our checked bag may get lost. I won't be wearing jeans in the MDR either--and the one pair I am bringing will be in the checked bag. I am beginning to agree that a more relaxed dress code makes sense, especially for those of us flying from afar and changing planes at least once. A related question for you is: what is your favorite carryon bag for international travel. I am shopping for a new one and will welcome suggestions.
  21. We've only seen the marina used twice on our SB cruises. I think one issue is that the conditions have to be exactly right. I would never count on seeing the marina used. It puzzles me when they use it in advertising.
  22. Consider using a very good travel agent who may be able to help you.
