  1. @jaja To Mr. Winkleman I would say "Sir, this was not a child's play area. There is no reason for the family to fear this will happen again. Millions of people have cruised without this type of incident. The authorities are making sure it never happens again by pursuing charges against the ONLY person that has any fault in this situation."

  2. @geekybeth I believe Carnival is one of the lines with a ban on RSOs. To confirm you can call and ask without providing your name, etc. Also, depending on your state he may be required to inform authorities of his travel plans. I'd also make sure that if you plan to get off of the ship, you know the rules/laws of the countries you'll be visiting.

  3. The Starbucks on the Allure is a Starbucks. No the beverage packages do not include items from there. You use your SeaPass. There is free coffee available. At about $3.50 per CocaCola your hubby would need to drink at least 10 a day to justify a $38/day price on the refreshment package. It sounds like paying as you go may be more cost effective. However, if you enjoy the freedom to not worry about how much you're spending get the Refreshment Package.

  4. @Hammergirl Can't speak about the Haven. Have you looked at the deck plans for the Jewel? I'd spend some time clicking through this page. There are:

    Basketball/Volleyball/ Tennis Court

    Card Room

    Entourage

    Arcade

Splash Academy is a drop off program for child ages 3 - 12 (Turtles, Seals, Dolphins) offering high energy, interactive, themed based programming.

    Pools/Hot Tubs

You have to decide if your kids would be kept busy with those things.

I'm a registered sex offender because of something that happened over 20 years.  I'm not here to get into that but I am looking at going on a cruise that departs from Florida and goes to the Western Caribbean (It is on a cruise line allows sex offenders to travel).  Some of the ports of call don't allow sex offenders (namely Mexico).  If I try to enter the country will they just make me return to the ship or will they make me cut my trip short and fly home?  And if I don't try to get off the ship, will I be OK on the ship or will they still send be back being I am in Mexican waters?

@anankae The OP asked two direct questions (In bold above). I provided the safest advice in order to get the correct information "from the horses" mouth. Your advice to "fly under the radar" is not based on factual, legal information FROM MEXICO. You have no idea what could happen, which is what OP asked. Your advice could end up with him in a Mexican jail!

As for your most recent response - If you break a rule/law there are consequences. In this case one of the consequences was to be listed on the registry. This further results in other restrictions (i.e. travel restrictions). Do the crime, do the time. Until the registry is changed, fixed, edited, whatever it is there and should be respected.

I have friends that due to their careers are unable to travel to certain countries. My travel buddy to CUBA had to fill out like 3 forms in order to travel there with me. Two before leaving and one upon return. They knew the policy before accepting the position. They just GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! Travel is a privilege not a right.

  6. Between my two solo cruises, I've been fortunate to not have noticed any negativity. Lots of folks have complimented my choice to live my life on my terms. In one case (that kinda makes me teary) a family of four was seated next to me in the MDR. The youngest, a girl, asked if I was "all by myself". I responded yes ma'am. She turned to her mom and her mom said "that is something to be proud of". I am.

I am single, never married and don't have children. My sister and her family are very busy. My dad has tried but can't pull the trigger on retirement. Most of my friends have kids and/or husbands. I always let them know of my plans and would love to have them join but they haven't. I have reached a point in life where I'm done waiting. I'm taking the bulls by the horns and doing the things I want and enjoy!

  7. If you already use a TA why would you call? Seems like a waste of your time. If I ever have to deal with customer service reps on the weekend or late at night (after 7pm), I always thank them for working weekends.

Few things that may help others with customer service calls in general:

Best not to call a "hotline" on a Monday between 8-10am

Best to call 7:00am to noon any other day

Wednesdays and Thursdays have lowest hold times

Best not to call Mon-Fri between 11:30am and 1pm (lunch CSRs are eating and others are using it to make the calls)

Best not to call Mon-Fri at 5:00 (people off work and on to their "errands")

If it's a payment situation, best not to call on a Friday after 12pm (Fridays are payday for a lot of folks)

  8. It's a calculated risk. I live within an hour of three major airports. Cruising out of an east coast port, POM and Mobile,  I have had no issues flying the morning of embarkation. However, in January I leave out of the Port of Los Angeles. I have a non-stop flight to LAX and I'm still going a day early. Same with my cruise in Jan 2021, I will fly to San Juan on Friday for a Saturday embarkation.

Time of year also played into my decision. January 2019 to Mobile no issue with a 0600 flight. June 2018 to FLL no issues with a 0805 direct flight. September 2019 no issues to MIA with a 0759 direct flight.

We each have to do that in which we're comfortable. I will not chastise someone for the choice they make. I truly hope that travelers educate themselves of the risks before purchasing the tickets.
