  1. You were asked for your reasons and gave a serious response. I think it is awful that some posters reacted with the laughter icon. I gave you a like, and also like you want nothing to do with a medallion.
  2. If you do get permission, make sure you have it in writing and present it at the ship. And if they do let you off early, do not expect to get anything off your cruise fare because you left early.
  3. I am with you on those monstrosities of the seas and would not cruise on them. We did cruise on the Epic in the Western Mediterranean for our 35th anniversary, and it was the unfriendliest ship we were ever on. Note that NCL is now building Prima class ships, by no means small, but much smaller than their Epic or Breakaway ships. It should be noted that some people love those monstrosities of the seas. I don't think there is a middle ground; you either love them or hate them.
  4. I also have a vivid memory of my first Dylan concert which was in 1965 when he played an acoustic set followed by an electric set accompanied by the musicians who would later be known as The Band.
  5. There are things I remember and things I don't. For instance, I know how I got there, but have no idea how I got home. I don't ever remember going to the bathroom. I don't know if that is possible, but I really was much younger in 1969 than I am now. I actually met 2 other people on our Prima cruise last summer who had also been there. One of them told me that he hitchhiked there and was stopped by a State Trooper who asked him where he was going. When he said Woodstock, he was corrected by the trooper and told he wanted to go to Bethel. So, I am not the only one with memories. Here's a story from then that I shared with 2 of the singers from the Syd Norman's Pour House on the cruise this past summer. It was the Saturday portion of the show, but with all the groups that had already played and the rain delays, it must have been after midnight, so really Sunday. Janis Joplin finished her set and many people seemed to be getting up to leave and go to their campsites. Not me, I was pretty much rooted to where I was sitting. Whoever was doing the announcing said, "why are you people leaving? If you leave now, you miss Sly and the Family Stone, The Who, and the Jefferson Airplane." And it seemed everyone sat back down. Sly came on (according to an autobiography I have since read) at 3:30 in the morning. Sly had a reputation of sometimes being awful or not even playing if his set was delayed, but he and his group were also capable of being as good as anyone. And that night (er early morning) they were. Despite all of us being tired from a long day and night of music and rain, he had us all on our feet raising our arms HIGHER. And then the Who came on and played basically their whole new album. As I said to the singers from Syd Normans, "See me. Feel me, Touch m,, Heal me," pretty much summed up what rock and roll is about. And then the Jefferson Airplane ended the show for the day. We all finally had an idea of the time as the sun had risen. The funny thing is that they were on last because they were going to use their own light show instead of Woodstock's light show. And now there could be no light show as the sun had risen.
  6. Hard to forget, especially since the site is now known as Bethel Woods and we have been to many concerts there over the years. Now sometimes I forget things like did I take my vitamin or did I brush my teeth, but the Woodstock festival is not something I forget.
  7. And thank goodness you and your colleagues did an excellent job. Or else we'd be reading of a lot of plane crashes.
  8. "WOW!" that I was there, or "WOW!" that I can discuss that?
  9. Earlier this morning, my DW said where is that ship you loved (the Prima) going next. I said a lot f people seem to hate it. She said it does not matter you loved it. I then asked her how she felt about the ship, and she replied that she also loved it.
  10. I find I can discuss that I was at the original Woodstock Festival.
  11. You made me feel less stupid; I hope I did the same for you. Though for me it was not actually grabbing a card, rather putting the wrong one in the safe.
  12. As one can easily see there are widely different views of the Prima. All I can say is look at the thread with the survey would you sail on the Prima again. Yes is well ahead of no (at least as of the time I am posting this).
  13. I actually learned first hand that it did not have to be the cruise card. After returning from one of our ports where we were told to bring picture id as well as our cards, I accidentally put my cruise card in the safe and kept my driver's license. It obviously did not open the door. I found one of the stewards in the hall and asked him to open the door for me. I then went to the safe, but the electricity shut off before I could open it. After stumbling around in the pitch black inside cabin, I managed to find the card reader and put my license in. And it worked allowing me to open the safe and get my card so I could put that back in the slot and my license back in the safe.
  14. It does not have to be your cruise card. It can be a credit card, a library card, or even your driver's license.
  15. Take the cruise with the attitude that you are going to have a great time, and remember the positive reviews. If you fixate on the negative reviews and expect all sort of things to be terrible, it will turn into a self-fulfilling prophecy.
  16. Do they actually enforce that for gratuities? From experience, the various cruise lines owned by the Carnival Corporation also say that but don't seem to enforce it.
  17. They have been delaying this for years. So maybe next year, maybe not.
  18. We loved it even though it was not a warm weather cruise. I could see how it would have been even better in warmer weather. We found many more positives than negatives.
  19. Are there things it cannot be used for such as the daily gratuity or the casino for example?
  20. Though I mostly agree, my DW once had her camera drop from where she had it hung on a hook in a bathroom in a restaurant in Edinburg. The fact that she could buy a new lens onboard and the employee in the photography department could be of assistance to her was very helpful. And we did check prices later when we got home from the cruise, and the ship's price (it was a Princess ship) was actually competitive.
  21. You are hearing different things because at one time NCL experimented on the Prima with a menu in the MDR that did not change with the hope to later do that on all their ships. The experiment did not work, and they changed back to the normal rotating menus.
  22. That makes perfect sense. And since we have posters who are on this cruise, I am sure we will read what Carnival is going to do with the rest of the cruise.
  23. Can't help with the tours, but yes there is a HOHO bus. We took it in Bergen. First, we went to the university and walked around their gardens there as the museums were not yet open. We then visited one of the museums there. Then we went to Kode, 4 museums there. (DW is an art teacher, now retired). Then we went to the Funicular, and finally back to the ship. Note--the HOHO bus shows 2 dock stops as there are 2 different docks. So if you take it make sure you go back to the right dock for your ship.
