  1. Yes, the cruise contract says they can cancel a port. And we had 2 ports cancelled on our Prima cruise last summer. On one of them had bought an excursion pre-cruise from NCL, and when NCL cancelled the port even before the cruise, I called to have the money refunded to our credit card. I was told I was going to be given NON-REFUNDABLE OBC instead and I should be grateful for it since they did not have to give me anything. After more discussion, the representative finally realized I was not asking for compensation for a missed port, but rather a refund of an excursion they could no longer provide as they were not going to the port. She put me on hold and consulted a different department. I was given the refund as their policy allows you to cancel an excursion for a refund if it is more than 48 hours before the excursion.
  2. I guess you did not recognize my sarcasm. Maybe it was my fault as I could have put in an emoji, but I really thought everyone would recognize the sarcasm. I do see that there have been others who responded to your post who did recognize I was being sarcastic.
  3. Not the first time a thread has drifted, not will it be the last.
  4. You wonder whether at some point the bean counters will figure out that giving a reasonable explanation (if there is one) will in the long run save a lot of bad publicity and possibly a loss of future revenue for the cruise line.
  5. That is what I have been saying.
  6. Is there any enforcement mentioned in Cruise Passenger Bill of Rights adapted in 2013? Has there been any examples of it being enforced?
  7. Interesting concept. I would ask if the cruise lines adapted it, who would enforce it. As for the government passing something along these lines, all I can say is that at the moment they don't seem to be able to pass anything.
  8. You are not alone (except we were never quarantined on a ship).
  9. 👍, I think it is telling that no other cruise line owned by Carnival Corporation has substituted the medallion for cruise cards.
  10. I honestly cannot answer that question because I do not know. What I can say is there was the same chatter about "I would never get off in Jamaica" in these boards back then (2013) when we visited Jamaica as a port.
  11. Since they give ratings on a scale of 1-5, that would be a quite interesting rating. 🤦‍♂️
  12. At home sometimes, for instance coming home from the grocery store, but on a cruise, never.
  13. And if you go back to 2013 (or even earlier) when we were on a cruise that included a stop in Ochos Rios, Jamaica, you will read the same warnings and the same posts about not getting off the ship..
  14. And comparing Jamaica to Syria is also comparing apples to oranges.
  15. Yes, that is what air deviation means.
  16. They also censor their reviews, at least Carnival does. I once submitted 2 on the same cruise. One was extremely positive, the other quite negative. I am sure you can guess correctly which got posted and which was not posted as it did not meet their standards.
  17. More likely a race to see which is implemented last. And that assumes they eventually get implemented.
  18. Perhaps not, but OTOH at least on the one 10 1/2 years ago, we heard the same warnings.
  19. Such paranoia about Jamaica. We have been there twice, both times in Ochos Rios. We stayed at an AI in 1997 (the one the locals ran and no longer exists) for our 20th anniversary. We had a wonderful time. Yes, they wanted to braid my hair, but they all took a firm no for an answer without any other reaction. We had Jamaica as a port in 2013 on a Carnival cruise. We took their Bob Marley bus excursion and saw a part of Jamaica you all are afraid to see. DW and I had a wonderful time and never felt anything but safe. Maybe they were a little forward about wanting tips, but that happens in a lot of cruise ports.
  20. And Levon Helm's real first name was Lavon. And I did not need Wikipedia to know that.
  21. Our first two cruises were actually with Royal Caribbean. And then they started building their monstrosities, and we were no longer customers. Maybe someday we could consider one of their older ships from NYC especially if it had an ice skating rink as DW is into figure skating.
  22. I really should have said some love them and some hate them. There are a lot in both camps. There does not seem to be a middle ground.
