  1. But it can be difficult, in some countries, to find somewhere that accepts Discover.
  2. Twice while out of the country my husband has needed prescriptions to be replaced. Once he forgot one of the prescriptions and another time our nephew, who was staying at our rental house in Mexico with us, stole several of husbands pills and apparently sold them in the nearby town! Both times our doctor faxed new scripts to the local doctor who wrote new prescriptions for us.
  3. We did the same thing, years ago, when we were in a hotel that required it. I had never heard of such a thing! I do like it though. I'm awful about losing my key cards whether on land or at sea. I usually just toss it on a table or wherever. With the slot now I know where that #*#! card is!
  4. On NS in May we were given a time frame of when to go scan our cards. I seem to remember that there was a note in the cabin.
  5. That's what we did. We turned the laundry in on the evening we embarked and it was back the next evening. Other times when we put it out in the morning it would be back the next evening. It generally took a day and a half for turn around. We sent something out every day.
  6. Maybe this is what HAl is in the process of doing? Time will tell but it may be that the ending of the Lincoln Center affiliation is the start of letting the brand contracts expire and setting up something new to replace them. Some people will be disappointed and miss what was and others will be excited to see what's next.
  7. On the Nieuw Statendam we had a wine tasting at Nami Sushi. It was the first time I had seen that offered and it was quite interesting.
  8. Thank you, I appreciated your great review! We're booked on Oosterdam for 1/2025. Your review was very helpful.
  9. Yes, it can be bad. We have been in some horrible back ups driving into and out of Honolulu. Now that my brother no longer lives there I'm fine with never seeing Oahu again!
  10. When you picture that moment, sailing away on your first night of a new adventure, what do you see? Are you enjoying a beautiful restaurant dinner with a nice glass of wine to celebrate? Or your on your private balcony, just the two of you as you watch the city slowly slip away, with a nice glass of wine and maybe a cheese plate? Or are you on deck with others, enjoying the festive atmosphere with a nice glass of wine and some appetizers being served to you? As you can maybe tell, a nice glass of wine features prominently in all of my scenarios! YMMV
  11. So in this case, if you used your excursion credit, it would be $29 for the HAL tour. I'd still choose the private option for a visit to the canyon but if I were looking at a similar situation in Honolulu I would take the HAL option to avoid the horrible traffic!
  12. If you have any onboard credit you can wait until you're onboard and use that to pay for it.
  13. Oosterdam is scheduled for dry dock in October, so maybe the hallway bumps and bruises will be taken care of. And a library addition would be an added bonus for many!🤞
  14. I would, not necessarily for the party but because I enjoy watching the sights as we arrive or leave a port.
  15. I hadn't done a ship excursion since our first cruise, but my husband was concerned that I would be hiking in unfamiliar terrain alone so it was a compromise. The one in Flam I was also concerned I wouldn't be able to get the train tickets on my own so I used our credit for that. In the end, I did do it on my own. My husband wasn't thrilled that I would be hiking by myself as the excursion was canceled due to icy conditions but the trail was fine so it worked out. For Geiranger, I modified what the hike I was going to do so he could go with me.
  16. I used my excursion credit for a hike in Flam (day 3 of the cruise) and then wait listed to do another hike in Geiranger (day 12) which I would have paid for. Upon boarding I was notified the hike in Flam was canceled. The day before Geiranger I was notified that I had cleared the wait list for that hike but I had already made other arrangements so I canceled the HAL excursion. I could have used the excursion credit for the one in Geiranger but I preferred the alternative plans I had made.
  17. I was wait listed for an excursion for a few months before our cruise and was notified a day before the excursion, while on the ship, that I had cleared the wait list. I had already made other plans. I never did get to use our included excursion as the other one I had booked was canceled.
  18. That advice seems very out of date! Yes, if you feel you need some cash, a bank ATM is a good choice. But, we haven't used cash at all in Europe for our last few trips.
  19. This may make me consider a ship excursion. Anything that focuses on nature or science is going to peak my interest. I enjoy learning the history of an area with a competent guide but have a limited tolerance for cities and crowds so something that would balance the two interest would be great. I haven't been on a ship excursion since my first cruise. I had a hiking excursion booked with my HIA freebie on our recent Norway cruise but it was canceled, so I did it by myself. But something lead by an expert in the field, I would consider that.
  20. On our recent cruise we had an aft wrap balcony on Nieuw Statendam. When we arrived there were 4 chairs w/dinning table, and 2 chairs with an ottoman and cocktail table. There were not any lounge chairs, so we asked the room steward about that and he had 2 delivered to the room. We moved the balcony furniture around depending on wind and sun conditions.
  21. The terms and condition say non-refundable but as the others noted it is refundable if you cancel your cruise before final payment. It is also refundable if you to upgrade to a Neptune/Pinnacle suite which includes the CO amenities.
  22. We always get a cheese plate on embarkation day. We call about an hour before sail away. It doesn't matter which cabin you're in.
