  1. So sorry mchell810, and I do so hope Maya returns. Our pets are so very special to all of us who take one in.
  2. Observer, you are a well-respected poster here, you gave me great tips as I took my first Silversea cruise a few years back, so your two-word post has an outsized effect on me, & probably others. Any expansion on your post would be appreciated...
  3. Wow, don't want to believe. Looking forward to our next SS cruise in a few months, just can't imagine the crew has changed so much from our past experiences
  4. So, Broadway plays tour after closing in New York, & today I took my beautiful wife to see Dear Evan Hansen as it finally arrived in Richmond. What a wonderful, if emotionally difficult at times, play. My favorite quote, that Evan writes to himself: "Dear Evan Hansen, today is going to be a great day and here's why: because today at least you're you and, well, that's enough." Don't know about the movie, anybody seen it?
  5. I would swear I saw a quote within the last 24 hours or so about being a fighter, not a quitter. And now she's a quitter? British politics is confusing, but I do enjoy the little snippets we get here of when the PM goes and answers questions from members of the House of Commons. As far as I know, the USA has nothing like it. Best wishes to all in the UK.
  6. As are the other towns that surround it. When our kids were growing up, we could take them to this part of the country, where their grandparents on one side lived for generations, & have great summer vacations. The memories continue to this day around holiday get togethers, etc. So the question is up to these towns and counties, I think. If they choose to limit the number of visitors, I suggest we respect their reasons and book our excursions early!
  7. love all you guys, but still grieving, this helped a bit:
  8. Sad day in Virginia today, we took one of our 2 dogs to the vet, he just seemed tired and at times having trouble breathing. While being x-rayed, he went into labored breathing with blood pressure dropping, they rushed him back to the room where we were waiting and he died in our arms. The world is a bit poorer without Grover in it. Much larger impact on us to lose him.
  9. A good sauvignon blanc often on the included list of wines
  10. glad to be here, just poured a 2nd glass 🙂
  11. Hope you get that rest JP. Wife and I enjoy your posts. Could the veal marsala recipe work with chicken (asking for a friend with a weird allergy)?
  12. yeah, just not my style either
  13. Just booked a 2nd Silversea cruise yesterday (Norway!), so as I harvest a few depleted stock investments to cover the fare, all these comments are valued. I do have to ask regarding menus being rarely or infrequently changed. Am I correct that these repeating menus offer multiple choices for one's meal? That there should be no fear that one must ever repeat a lunch or dinner?
  14. Just booked another cruise for next year, 1st time on the Silver Dawn. I can't wait to get back ...
  15. do you think Jeff really left? Not just getting bagels?
  16. I've lived through some terrible things in my life - some of which actually happened (Mark Twain) 🙂
  17. Jeff, I'm going to assume you've really just decided to make a late-night run for some bagels...
  18. Jeff, please let us know if you ever open a bed and breakfast. If you do, I'll be there come hell or inflation!
  19. Jazzbeau, you took a chance on that one. Glad it worked out...
  20. Come to the cooler & you will work up an appetite! Acknowledging how very good fresh baked bread is, my mind then turns to the topic of butter. And how delicious the butter I've enjoyed in both Scandinavia and, more recently for me, Ireland, is. I have to believe there is great butter made in the USA (c'mon Vermont!) but I haven't found it yet.
  21. So many beautiful and enlightening posts here. I fear I can only dilute your thoughts and feelings. But post anyway even if the wine glass is now empty. My grandparents came from the Netherlands on my mother's side, Mom's parents both Americans of Dutch descent. Similarly on my father's side, but Norway, not Netherlands, and the "purity" a bit clouded by a divorce far enough back in time it was considered shameful & so not discussed. So, no English blood (most likely). Yet, England holds sway over my intellect, my sense of justice and fairness, my love for rights earned many years ago by Englishmen and women, my tongue, and at times like this, my heart. So I wanted to say this - there is no doubt in my mind that the British will carry on. New PM, new King, and now I learn here even the BBC is a bit wobbly - but I know you Brits (yes Jeff, Yanks ok even for us Southerners) - will carry on. I can think of no higher compliment for a nation and its culture. Your late Queen is mourned.
