Kudos to the Carnival team for delivering in a pinch again.

It was a general statement on cruisers who cruise RCCL and thoughts on icon. You can google it. I never said it was not popular. They are demanding huge prices to sail on it, and people are paying. WAY more than I have ever seen before, but at 2 BILLION it takes a bunch to pay that bill. I cruise other lines, and RCCL is on that list. As I said, I think it is NOT attractive at all, WAY to many people and looks like a joke that one might see a manufactured picture on her today (April 1). I may be wrong, will not be the first time. Enjoy your cruises.

I can try. See post 2 on states where they are using EDL. Yours is one of those. All of the other states have not. If someone lives in those and crosses borders they have to use passport. They may come here and see (example) you can use your DL to cross. They might be further confused because their state is going to Real ID for domestic travel, which WILL be needed for domestic air travel at some point but has seen delay after delay after delay. Then they could be even further confused because when the realize all this and they cruise a lot, they decide to get/renew their passport (what we all will need at some point to do) and they get even more confused by which type to get (card or book). Finally they get even MORE confused because they see all the delay in processing renewals and new passports. Hopefully this all makes sense.

I get and understand the differences and the logic and rationale for all. They do have purpose. From the outside looking in (most travelers), something happens need wise which causes them to need to look at what their options are. Lots of input from many sources (including here), and it looks confusing. My original comment was really that and delays in enactment on multiple fronts, posts on delays for passports etc and it looks like a maze. When they are in a border state, it add more confusion and can get furth complicated if that border state is not active,,,,

I can be more clear. I am talking about all of them. While you and I understand the difference between Real ID and EDL and their functionality differences, in regards to travel, we add in Passports and passport cards. Hoe much mote confusing could it be to occasional travelers. They were all trying to simplify secure. Instead we have one designed for air travel, one designed for contiguous birder travel (and oh by the way totally different than the other used for domestic travel). Then the second oh by the way it is not accepted in all border states. We can wla e passports and passport cards out but they confuse it more.

OK, how many border states have it enacted? How many border states have not implemented it? Does the fact they have two different methodologies make sense? Do you think the public is/will get confused? Is there a better way?

Only way we find that out is if it happens. Just take a gander at Icon and tell me what you see. Butt ugly….wait look tomorrow. Then I could have said Aprils fools. Five years ago, everyone would have laughed….. Are some paying those out of this world prices…? Yup. Even RCCL execs are laughing. Monstrosity… But I must be wrong because I sail Carnival….. Your views may differ, but I will not question them…

At some some point, they will need to force a decision as to what is acceptable. It is clear, passports are a better control, and that is what it is all about.

Thanks for the Webster alliteration. While I think I grasped that, I noticed where the poster was from and was curious as to their view (if it helps, I can say opinion). Which is an entirely different discussion them some just being cheap. Maybe, just maybe sometimes we can learn from other points of view. Lastly, I brought up earlier how many posts and threads there are on this topic, but the discussion makes it way more interesting.

They need something to pay for those monstrosities…..other than the absolutely ridiculous rates they charge for Icon. But when you are doing 1+ ships a year at 2 bill per ship.throwing some free booze at their loyal customers must work…. All that said, if it works for you, it work. Thanks for the reply.
