  1. If the additional money spent and the hassle of recouping it is more than the loss, don't do it.
  2. Tipping was a "thing" long before the Civil War. As such, it did not come about as a result of the 13th or 15th Amendment. Southern Democrat business owners (e.g. restaurants, railroads, etc.) took advantage of it to pay - mostly black - workers a low wage and reap greater profits for themselves. Southern Democrat politicians attempted to ban tipping in several southern states because they felt whites shouldn't have to "lower" themselves to tip blacks. Those laws were either deemed unconstitutional or overturned for other reasons. The ability to tip was then codified into federal law in the 1930s (I believe) and allowed. I tip to reward great service. If I were to stop tipping now, it would be hurting the very people who need it the most. It's fine to lobby the cruise lines, etc. to do away with tipping (increasing fares) and just pay their people more. But how do we know any increase in wage (with no tip) will be greater than what they have now (lower wage with generous tipping). I guess it's up to cruise employees to make their opinions known.
  3. Tip if you desire. Don't if you want. It's all up to you. That's the beauty of "discretionary."
  4. So sorry you've encountered ignorant, indelicate people. One of the problems is so many people abuse the service dog situation that a lot people are callous to it.
  5. I had one of the large window cabins up front on the Sun deck. Absolutely my favorite cabin of all time and sooooo quiet. However, it's a longer walk to most things. If your mom has mobility issues at all, I would pick a cabin closer to mid ship.
  6. I know it's a small amount, but I would dispute the $11 on my credit card. You are able to dispute an amount smaller that the total charged to your card. I did that with Princess once and Princess couldn't substantiate the incorrect change and the credit card company credited me for the amount. After that headache, I always check my onboard totals every day.
  7. Looking for to your cruise post. Love the Sky. Beautiful ship!
  8. The kid will have the non-alcoholic drink version of what you buy for yourself and will be charged for that version.
  9. Be sure to review the itinerary before booking to determine whether it has one or more "tendering" ports. If so, it may be difficult or impossible for you to board the tender unless you're able to walk without assistance, etc.
  10. If you have travel insurance that covers this reason, then you may be able to get some of your money back. If not, then it's down the drain - so to speak. Hope your dog recovers quickly as this illness can be serious for dogs.
  11. Not initially. Insurance companies will subrogate. Insurance will pay the insured, negotiate with the other "party," and then subrogate the claim if unsuccessful.
  12. When one crosses the Atlantic this time of year, be prepared for rough seas and ship noises. This is the norm and should be expected.
  13. OP - look at the travel insurance you, presumably, purchased. If your cancellation is a covered reason, you may be able to recover some of the loss. If you didn't purchase travel protection - live and learn.
  14. Why not just you pay for her Princess Plus package? That way you'll both enjoy. Let it be a Christmas present for your mom!
  15. I'd be interested in any updates re: any reimbursements, etc. It's hard to say what will happen in small claims court but if it's in Los Angeles, you can expect the court to be sympathetic to the plaintiff and not the corporation. I'd be surprised if it goes that far. I suspect the OP and Princess will resolve this amicably before any legal action is taken.
  16. Your thoughts/demands/feelings are utterly unreasonable given the terrorist attack and horrible bloodshed in that part of the world. Think about the thousands who have died, etc. and stop whining about your insignificant problems.
  17. They'll get over it. They're alive and well.
  18. They're offering an 100% refund and you're crying about no OBC, etc. Come on, man....
  19. Dude (I'm assuming you're one) - if you have to resort to "hooking" up on a ship and "picking" people up in lounges, kids ordering drinks aren't your biggest problem....
  20. Sexual conquests? What cruise line are you talking about? Most of the folks on my Princess cruises are older folks and they probably haven't had "conquests" for many, many years (no offense to older folks). If you go around spewing filth about your "conquests" in ship lounges, I'd rather sit next to Shirley Temple-sipping kids....
