  1. I think you are just being stubborn at this point. 😉 I am literally on the ship doing it on wifi to wifi hotspot ... and trying to argue about it doesn't exist. Oh well, this is pointless. Time for trivia. Google "what is the difference between tetherhing and mobile hotspot". Basically mobile hotspot is like a wireless access point. " In hotspot, your mobile phone acts just like your WiFi router and people can connect to it and access internet using your mobile or wifi data. In tethering, a phone's data is shared to other devices but through different means like bluetooth or a USB wire. If it's Bluetooth, then it's called Bluetooth tethering. If it's USB, it's called USB Tethering. They fall under Tethering, which is a general term. They both are really similar but a few notable differences are that, tethering is more secure as compared to hotspot and it can be used for different things as well like sharing files between devices. You must have heard of Shareit, which is a popular file sharing app for smartphones in which two devices are connected and then the file is shared from one device to another. In this process, the sender device's location, Bluetooth and mobile data has to be turned on. This is a form of tethering."
  2. It absolutely works. I'm on the symphony ship right now doing it all week. My s10+ mobile Hotspot doesn't work in airplane mode, but my win 11 laptop can. As long as you turn off mobile data it's not going to get roaming fees.
  3. Get a princess TA. She saved me a lot with casino discounts that didn't come up on the website.
  4. This is incorrect, wifi Hotspot without cellular service exists now. I'm doing wifi to wifi Hotspot on Symphony all week. My win 11 laptop and s10+ supports wifi to wifi Hotspot. My firestick does YouTube tv just fine. The picture quality is better than the cruise feeds.
  5. I am looking at a september 8 day out of galveston on harmony only @ $896 list price balcony, i'm solo most of the time so the double fare is something I consider. The may 8 day cruises bad a much bigger jump in price than sept/oct. I think I am booking it!
  6. You are correct, I saw that cruise. I think it was like 50% more expensive for one more day at coco cay. I'm fairly flexible on dates and US locations so I look for affordable cruises, but I will probably do one expensive royal cruie on Icon or Star in 2025.
  7. I booked harmony jan and may 2025. Some of the best prices I've seen for an oasis class. I do those cruises for the ship mostly. It would be nice to go to coco cay though.
  8. You need a wifi chipset and software to support it. If the surface pro is running windows 11 it should be built into windows, but I dont know about the wifi chipset in that device. Just type mobile hotspot in the windows search bar. If it comes up and lets you enable it, it should be available for you. I have a relatively low end laptop made by HP about a year or two ago and it has the mobile hotspot capability Some of the new cell phones support mobile hotspot via wifi was well. It looks my S10+ can do it too. I've only been on Oasis and Symphony but both of those ships had an identical TV setup. I don't know about other ships.
  9. There is a button under the TV that brings up a menu with the source option. It's not on the remote. Every time you turn off the TV you will have to select the source again with the button on the tv. Short press scrolls, long press is enter. The TV slides out so it's easy to access on this ship. Same thing on oasis.
  10. Here is what I am doing currently on Symphony... I bought 2 device package. I have my Windows 11 laptop set to mobile hotspot. I have my amazon fire stick plugged into the HDMI port of the tv and the USB port on the TV for power. There is a button under the TV that you can use to pick the source as HDMI. I am watching TV streaming service and youtube just fine. Speed test shows 10/3 which is enough to stream with. I am on day four and they haven't disconnected me once for using mobile hotspot. The stateroom TV has very limited channel selection and the picture quality is bad. My firestick gives me more options at night to watch some TV while I midnight snack in bed. Without a travel router or a mobile hotspot there is no way to get some devices online like a nintendo as you can't get to the web login page. A windows 11 mobile hotspot is easy. Just type mobile hotspot in the search bar and it will come up. Good tip is to set the mobile hotspot name and password to be the same as your home network. That way my devices just automatically work. I've got a tablet, nintendo, firestick, and my laptop all sharing a single "device" in the stateroom. Then I use the 2nd device for my phone that way I don't have to switch it back and forth, but that is is an option.
  11. The app updated and I think it has a display bug. When I look at say the soda package. It has $9.99 crossed out and says on sale for $14.99. If you click on it, it is actually priced at $9.99. It is backwards... the $14.99 should be crossed out
  12. Early dining is 530 and late was like 830. I just booked the same time every day 7pm. I never had to wait more than a couple minutes. They even had a guy working the line with a tablet that started recognizing us and checking me in and letting me walk to the table I had all week. Even without a reservation I don't think it would have been that much of a wait at 7pm except maybe the first night. You can make MTD dining reservations way in advance through the app. On Oasis it seemed MTD was on deck 3 and the regular was on 4 and 5.
  13. My app updated today and seems to be working OK on a S23+. Did notice a post in a facebook group for a specific cruise there was some trouble going on.
  14. I usually tip the room attendant, MDR waiter and assistant up to $50 each for a week cruise when service is good. If they do something special for me I will give them half the tip half the way through and give them the rest at the end. I don't drink alcohol but I really enjoyed the Bionic Bar mocktails and creating drinks. I got more drinks from there then anywhere else. Now that I think about it, I should have tipped the people taking care of it as they really did seem to keep busy. I pick up water bottles and red bulls from random bars and I don't tip extra for those. I get the refreshment package. Not sure how tips work with that.
  15. I went on Regal and April and doing it again in December. I had a good time, no real complaints besides the internet wasn't very good. couldnt even listen to a baseball game radio feed.. I heard it recently got a starlink internet upgrade.
  16. I will get a 2nd desert and walk out of the MDR with it and put it in the mini fridge for a midnight snack. No one has ever said anything.
  17. They are all linked now! I guess it takes a day or two for that group ID/currency error on the app to clear after doing the linking on the website/app. thanks
  18. I did two things... On my PC I went to my account page. Scroll all the way down at the bottom. There is a button that says add a cruise. Type in the info there. You will need the reservation number, name, and date of birth. On the app, click the dining button at the bottom. click main dining tab. click my time dining (usually at the bottom). Click make reservation. At the bottom click the plus sign that says add guests. You will need to type in their info there too. I am still waiting on the third reservation to link. I can do MTD reservation for five out of seven of us. I wonder if they have to do a confirmation on their end to let the link go through. I will have to ask the people we are cruising with if they got an email about it.
  19. Update with some good news. Two different room booking reservations are now linked and can my time dine together, but the third one still has the group ID error. What might have helped is on the website account page where it lists your upcoming cruises there is a button at the bottom that says add a cruise. I typed in my parents info there and that is the one that linked in the app. So I just tried that with third one with the error. I will check it tomorrow to see if the third one links.
  20. I guess for now we will all book at the same time and stop by MDR on boarding day. I might try to call in, or have the one with the loft suite call in if that helps. My last cruise on Oasis solo I did MTD reservation at about 7pm every day. There was little to no line at that time and I sat at the same table except one night.
  21. My windows laptop can act as a mobile Hotspot forwarding the ship wifi. I think some phones can do it as well. I do that for the firestick, tablet, Nintendo, etc. Worked out well on oasis. I just switched from my phone to to the laptop at night or whenever I was hanging out in the room or balcony. They make travel routers that do the same function.
  22. I booked separate from the rest of the family. I linked our bookings in the app but when I go to make a my time reservation i get this message. Can we just all show up at the same time and ask to be seated together? or should I do something like calling royal to fix this?
  23. You are probably better off letting them get a couple test cruises before the maiden voyage or all the staff is going to be new as well. Can't wait for this cruise. I'm going on the 2nd one.
