  1. I got up at 4 am this morning to 40°, and I said this may be the day I try to give up Starbucks. I blame this on Susan. Evidently, today is not the day.
  2. Spent the day at our daughter’s house, helping her get ready for the birthday party tomorrow. My job was to do some cleaning, inside and outside, including the windows. While outside, I saw some bear scat in the yard, about 20 feet from their front door. We do get black bears on occasion in our residential neighborhoods. So I guess the answer to that age old question “Does a bear s..t in the woods?”, the answer must be “Sometimes!” All this talk about feeling like fall, I noticed a few trees already changing colors when we took a walk this afternoon. .
  3. Thank you all ( or is it y’all?) for the birthday wishes for my grandson. We are really happy with the polite young man he has become. It must be because he has two fantastic parents. Not to mention two fantastic grand parents. Took him to his favorite Mexican restaurant tonight. It is 49°, so I closed the walls on the gazebo, climbed in the hot tub with a kraken colada, and watching the Steelers Browns game. Very comfortable in here.
  4. The wet suit is a great idea. I am surprised they have the flow rider open for the Alaska sailings. Susan actually took a wetsuit along for one of our Caribbean winter trips, when we were doing a helmet dive. It made it easier to take, since we drove instead of flew. After spending that much time underwater, everyone was envious. Making a note of this.
  5. You know you go to Starbucks too much, when they greet you by name and hand you your drinks when you walk in the door. Going there 3 or 4 times a week is a habit I would like to break. Just like those Carmel lattes too much.
  6. Now this is a proper birthday breakfast for our Pennsylvania grandson today before school. We are taking him out to dinner after school to celebrate. His choice, so we don’t know where we will end up yet. The big party will be on the weekend.
  7. We didn’t get the nasty weather Sue was talking about this morning. It was nice enough that some had their convertibles out. This is one of those “green” vehicles with only one horsepower. We also made a run across the border for a gas fill up. $2.99 a gallon in Ohio now, compared to $3.95 here in PA.
  8. Looks like a beautiful day there. Can’t wait to hear about your excursion.
  9. That is Sam’s Club for you! We usually have between 100 and 150 Trick or Treaters. We buy enough for our daughter also, and they usually get in the 150-200 range. We are still looking for boxes of a couple other types.
  10. I have never been to a Whataburger, or Sonic. Went to in an Out once in California, and Five Guy’s once. Haven’t even been to McDonalds or Burger King in probably 20 years. If we want a good burger, we travel to Blackout Burger. They have many standard burgers, or you can customize your own. It also helps that they have a good selection of adult beverages to go with it.
  11. We are getting an early start to pick up candy for Halloween. Anyone else notice how much candy prices are up? I just hope we don’t eat it all before then..
  12. Mid teens and 20’s is really good. I have had times I didn’t make 10,000. Other days, I have made up for it. I remember hearing about people that would get 100,000 in a day, and that seemed unrealistic to me. So I set out one day, three years ago, to see how many I could get in one day. It was a struggle, but I topped 80,000. But then, I was younger, and still in my 60’s then. Don’t think I will try that again.
  13. These are the kind of mornings I dream about in the summer. Drop the boat in the water, put on the slalom ski, and ski on water that is smooth as glass. Beautiful morning.
  14. Yesterday was, what has become a new normal weekday for us. We spend every weekday, all day at our daughter’s house, helping her with anything she needs done. We have all been going for walks at the lake, but we do not get there before sunrise any days, because the grandkids need to get off to school. They say it is important that she keeps up with exercise. Speaking of exercise, I know I have mentioned here before that I use a Fitbit tracker. Well, yesterday was seven years since I began wearing one. I have to admit, they do give you a little more incentive to keep moving, and I have a “family”, much like this one, that does daily challenges. Anyhow, it appears that in three more months time, I will have walked the equivalent to one time around the world. (No wonder I go through so many pair of tennis shoes) Even the last month, I have picked up the pace a little. Today, more of the same. Heading out to walk with our daughter. Better to do it now, when it is 57°, than later when it is 80°.
  15. Happy anniversary, Sue and Gary. Wishing you many more. I can relate to those delayed celebrations when watching grandkids is involved. We delayed ours the last couple years, since our California grandson was here.
  16. It was a good day today. Daughter finally tested negative for Covid, so she will be back on her normal treatment schedule in another week. Today was the end of boating season for us. I spent my day cleaning our boat, winterizing it, and moved it into it’s garage spot for the winter. It was also a day to clean the garage and the vehicles. After all that work, I had to channel Sea Dog, and relax with a kraken Colada. I think my bartender is more generous with the kraken pour. Oh, wait, that would be me. 😏
  17. Not quite the same, but Susan does not pay attention to where we park. One time, we were walking to our SUV in the parking lot, and she was not paying attention to where I was going. She walks to an SUV about 4 spaces from ours, opens the door, and starts to get in. And she scares the bejesus out of the lady sitting in it. Right color, right make, but a couple years older than ours. Of course, I am standing there, watching this play out. Why am I reminded of that story? Tonight, we stopped at a store, and I waited in our SUV while she dashed in. I look in my rear view mirror and see her pass by, and I wonder why it is taking her so long to get in. There she is, a few spaces down, trying to get in another SUV. Right color, but wrong make and model. Now, I just shake my head.
  18. Today was split up day. Our cheerleading granddaughter was off to an away game this morning, so Susan and my daughter went there. My grandson had his first flag football game of the season here, so that is where I went. His team is a mix of fourth thru Eighth grade students. Grandson played well at QB, and had three touchdown passes. In spite of their team being named after the Jets, they played much better than their namesakes. Mapping the play. Hike the ball They won, 28-14 That must be today’s lucky number. Granddaughter’s team, she was cheering, won 28-14 too.
  19. Fifty years ago today, the first episode of M*A*S*H was broadcast. I have always been a fan, and still watch reruns at least once or twice a week. There was some talk about “most watched”, but if you are talking strictly about the US audience, the Super Bowl holds that title. Nine out of the top ten have been various Super Bowls, with the M*A*S*H finale in the remaking spot.
