  1. Promises are so much easier than software development?
  2. We don't sail until February, but since the reservations I'd booked were cancelled, I want that loose end taken care of too!
  3. I also checked today. I thought it would make sense for them to do an unannounced soft launch a day early so they could see what happens when the people who checked found it open. Nope.
  4. I'm an "abnormal lanyard person" too. It's so convenient, and I don't care much about looks these days. Recently, even my hubby has come over to this way of thinking. After he actually tried it once. 🀣
  5. Since we retired and every day is a weekend, I constantly have to stop and think about what day it is.
  6. We like TD and also fared pretty well over the years. I do remember one really pretentious lady that I chose to find funny instead of annoying. That was fine. But on one of our cruises before the pandemic, we were seated at a six top that pretty well finished us with shared tables. One of the couples always - always - showed up seriously late when they showed up at all. A couple of nights they never showed up at all. Our waiter kept us waiting around every night to see if/when they would be there. We did ask him to move things along, which didn't help at all. That inconsiderate couple kept us and the third couple waiting every dang night. The third couple was nice, so we stuck it out. Never again with the shared table!
  7. That's good to know, but it's a disappointment to me. We're new to HAL and haven't eating in PG yet, but we will on our next cruise with HAL. I'm an ice cream person, and I was planning to get that. Darn.
  8. My hubby doesn't like aft. Something about the motion irks him. We both like forward, so that's what we mostly book. One of the times I put us aft before I stopped ever doing that was the "bacon cabin." Don't remember the ship, deck or any other details, but we were somewhere over the MDR kitchen. They started cooking bacon way early in the morning, and that aroma traveled into our cabin. This didn't bother me at all, but poor hubby just couldn't sleep. The bacon called to him, and he wanted to answer the call. πŸ˜‚
  9. As far as I know, there isn't one. But then again we've never looked for it while we were Platinum or since we became Elite. Learn something new every day. According to info found through Google, it's "usually" held in Skywalkers. Seems to me we've gotten cocktail party invitations to that, but we've never gone.
  10. In our case, it was because the quad ticked all the boxes. We're booked on the Noordam in a quad on Observation deck. High in the ship - check Far forward - check Near open deck - check Near the Crow's Nest for early coffee - check Tiny balcony - we just don't care I booked this over the phone, working with the rep to get Club Orange and the cabin I wanted. I wasn't given any warning that we might be moved out of that cabin if they need it for 3 or 4 passengers. To be fair, the rep might not have known this. Who can tell. The cabin is a VB. Nearly all the VB cabins are either connecting cabins or aft (oddly, my hubby doesn't like aft). If they move us, the odds of it being to a VB that we wouldn't like are very high. I think it's unlikely that we'll be first on the list to be moved, since I can't see them putting three or four people in a balcony cabin where the balcony wouldn't hold that many. But if I'd known it was a possibility that we'd be moved, I would have chosen differently. End of my long whine. πŸ˜‚
  11. Do you find that info in your Princess information or on the Katmai Air site? I don't doubt it (sounds reasonable) but I can't find it.
  12. Oh, I don't have a plan B yet. I'm just working on getting one so I don't need to deal with a hangry hubby on the excursion. πŸ˜‚
  13. I took another look at my travel summary, and I think you're right. I think we'll be picked up too early for Snow City Cafe to work. On to good ole Alternate Plan B. πŸ˜‚
  14. I've decided on Snow City Cafe for breakfast. It opens at 6:30 and has full breakfasts and also things like muffins and scones. It's a very short walk from the Captain Cook. Snow City Cafe Yes, I've been watching the webcams at Brooks for several years. So nice! πŸ˜ƒ
  15. I've spent some time looking at restaurants that are walking distance from the Captain Cook. There's a really interesting looking dumpling place just across the street, if you like casual. Anchorage Pel’meni is the name. They don't seem to have a website but they do have a Facebook presence. We plan to go there for a meal. I looked on the Alaska board here for posts from people who've gone to Brooks. They speak highly! I'm really looking forward to this. πŸ˜ƒ
  16. Thanks for posting, but I think most of this doesn't really apply to this short cruisetour. It's just a night in Anchorage, day at Brooks, night anchorage, go to ship. We've done longer ones where the "Join Me Onboard" applied, but if it does on this one it's going to be a surprise since none of the info shows anything like that. I guess I'll find out!
  17. We're doing the 9 day Katmai with bear watching at Brooks. The August 5th one.
  18. I would have guessed that delivery times would be all over the place, and based on the above, that looks true. One time we ordered room service (we were in our cabin), waited over 2 hours, and simply gave up. No option to cancel. Went down to the buffet instead. They tracked us down in the buffet with our room service order! We felt sorry for the poor guy who went to all that trouble, but whatcha gonna do? Near as we could tell, the order was never coming.
  19. I like extra pillows, but this is extra extra pillows!
  20. Thanks, both of you. Very good to know. πŸ˜ƒ
  21. We're booked on a short cruisetour in August that starts with two nights at the Captain Cook. We have Princess transfers from the airport and will probably be at the Captain Cook by 2:30 or 3:00. Check in time is 4:00, and I just got email from Princess reinforcing the notion that "your tour starts at 4:00." My major question is this. Does anybody know if we can leave our luggage at the Captain Cook and wander off somewhere else before check in time? I tried searches and sifts and can't find that info. My minor question is this. When we turn our luggage over to Princess staff before boarding the bus to Whittier, will it just turn up in our cabin or do we need to collect it and hand it off to ports at the pier? Not a big deal either way, but I like to know things. πŸ™‚
  22. My solution is to order lamb chops. I love them, and it's a smaller size than even the small filet. If I do that, I can mostly finish the full meal. Mostly.
  23. To all those who posted that it was raining in Ketchikan, based on our experience, we always say that if it's Ketchikan it must be raining. πŸ˜‚
