  1. I had a thread in the summer complaining that the QV navigation channel didn’t give enough information, but at least it always had us in roughly the right place.
  2. It rapidly became academic as I caught Covid and was grounded.
  3. On the round UK cruise in May, I was told it was is just Q1-2. When I pointed out that it said Q1-4 in the brochure, they said they would honour it. But for new cruises, no doubt the brochure is changed.
  4. Most people would say you are being extremely charitable. Never mind, they are much better at ships.
  5. I think two of those front QG cabins do in fact have balconies at the side. It is only the two Q3s in the middle that are without.
  6. Absolutely. I’m surprised nobody has blamed Cunard for the storm yet. 🙂
  7. Also it makes a bit of a difference whether they are immediately fished out and slightly soggy or lost forever in the storm.
  8. What a good idea. It could be the start of a series: Lina, Rival, Clan, Clara, Lava. You can make all sorts of words and pronounceable non-words from it.
  9. It must have been a very tiring day. Hope you can relax and recover today.
  10. Oh dear me. What are Cunard doing - or not doing?
  11. Not that I mind made up names, as such.
  12. A Carnival press release and a site about what to call your babies. Neither of them Oxford Classics experts, I suspect. 🙂
  13. Yes, they gave that derivation, though I’m not sure it is normal for the Romans to go round sticking random letter ‘i’s in words like that in second declension plurals.
  14. But don’t you get champagne and chocs?
  15. Is Cunard deemed responsible rather than the employers of the dock workers?
  16. Apparently Arvia means from the seashore, which seems fair enough, though it’s not a Latin word I’ve ever come across, nor has Lewis and Short’s Dictionary. So probably late Latin.
  17. I don’t think they often make announcements. I have occasionally heard announcements from the Purser’s Office in a variety of accents.
  18. If by PH you mean Penthouse, I would go for a Q4, unless walking is a real trial. Q3s are near the lifts, and slightly larger, but I have never really noticed the size difference. Oh, and the view from the balcony is better because they are on the bit that sticks out. But I don’t think any of that is worth paying more for.
  19. Though the last two captains I’ve had were US and Irish, and my next will probably be Danish, so British accents aren’t by any means invariable.
  20. 16 nights QG $600 per cabin, it seems. Which just about covers hotel and dining.
  21. You can arrange an automatic wake-up call on the phone.
  22. The same happened last year, so I doubt there is anything sinister. More likely they haven't quite got their Alaska programme sorted.
  23. As to the British aspects, this is clearly something US passengers notice, for me, from the UK, I notice how American it seems.
