  1. Are you reading the summary or actual contract? The contract should have a "Definitions" section that will define the coverage.
  2. Sam Woo Restaurant formally on Washington Street was voted to have the rudest waiter, Edsel Fong. The 3 story restaurant was literally built between the surrounding buildings as there are no side or back walls, only the front. Kitchen is on the ground floor and you need to walk through it to get to dining rooms upstairs. Edsel will toss you the notepad and yell at you to write down your order "be concise and precise" he would say. When your food comes, he'll either plop it on your table or yell at you to get it yourself from the dumbwaiter while he's reading his Chinese newspaper. Your utensils is self service. If you complain that your sweet & sour taste like ketchup, he'll tell you it probably is. If you think your pot stickers are burnt he'll tell you, "you ordered it, you eat it". Best time to go was after last call in North Beach and staggering in to "freshen up" before going home. Sadly Edsel left us many years ago, but the restaurant in its newer version is still here on Clay St. across from Portsmouth Square. Food is still good, but no longer has that extra "flavor".
  3. Hilton SF Financial District is right across the street from Chinatown. There's a bridgeway (east meets west) between the hotel and Portsmouth Square (Chinatown's living room) across the street. Couple of blocks north is North Beach (Little Italy), east & south is Wall Street of the West. Bunch of smaller boutique hotels in that corner of the city.
  4. Kai Tak Cruise Terminal has a money exchange. https://www.kaitakcruiseterminal.com.hk/facilities/money-exchange/
  5. Ship's handheld radios are at least 5 watts and require a network of repeaters through out the ship. Even if someone were to bring a pair of 5+ watt handhelds (gmrs or hams) they still would need a repeater network to talk through all that steel.
  6. Delays can happen anytime and anywhere. Key is to plan ahead and have options. SFO is not the only airport with sinking runways, Kansai Int'l Airport (Japan) has sank about 8m since completion.
  7. I remember seeing this suitcase come in a bin out in TPE. It was splayed out for all to see, another bin followed with items that looked familiar. When the bins came around to me, I realized it was my stuff. When we got to the hotel later, the shop had a Samsonite Oyster in the window. That lasted me almost 20 years until the newly created TSA decided to open it.
  8. No experience with LAX, but at SFO, you still need to go to the SQ counter for passport check and baggage drop. They'll weigh your luggage AND carry-on, tag it and you're off to TSA and to the gate.
  9. SFO has a rental car facility north of the terminals, with most of the big names are there. From the terminals there is an automated Sky Train that will take you to the facility. Uber/Lyft can go directly to the facilities drop-off curb.
  10. Menu is on their website, doesn't change much: https://polynesia.com/dining Then there's the Marketplace where you can graze among the food trucks or food stalls.
  11. In general don't book any flight that departs before noon. Debarking from your ship may be delayed or traffic can go bad in a heart beat. While many cruisers will get on earlier flights with no problems, why go through the stress of trying to catch one.
  12. Like renting a car, the rental firm may offer coverage. Assuming you reside in the US and own a golf cart, your personal car insurance doesn't cover golf carts and your homeowners insurance offers limited coverage while it's used around your property. You can buy golf cart insurance or some auto insurers will add it to your policy.
  13. California's minimum wage is $15.50 an hour including tipped workers. San Francisco is $18+ an hour including tipped workers. There's a ballot measure in 2024 to push the state minimum to $18.80. Meanwhile legislation signed by the Governor put the minimum wage for fast food workers to $20 an hour by 2028.
  14. Hope your husband is doing okay. Unfortunately you had to learn the expensive way. That's usually the general requirement for credit card coverage for the trip or car rental "insurance" that it must be paid with the same card. The mucky part is if you paid your trip with points. How the "insurance" will reimburse you for those points?
  15. Best to check out who the promoters are of the this reunion cruise. In the past I've had at least two cruise promotions for my high school class. The first one even touted that it was approved by the alumni association. I called a friend who was the President of the alumni association at the time who replied, "You too!!... ABSOLUTELY NOT!!" We/She couldn't figure out the "classmate" who was promoting this cruise or the address of the travel agency. She and others planned a reunion for 3 three high school classes together and barely got enough response to cover the deposit.
  16. You'll have to maneuver luggage up/down escalators. You get better odds at a slot machine than finding a BART elevator that is usable & works.
  17. Zilch, nada, within the city limits. SFO El Rancho Best Western by the airport offers Stay & Park for a week, $15 a day after. No shuttles not even to SFO.
  18. Grand Hyatt is on the airport grounds, The AirTrain will take you to/from the terminals or to the car rental lot.
  19. Remember the TV commercials with Karl Moulden telling us to keep a few in your wallet cause you can replace them if you lose your wallet? Safer than cash. I wonder how much Amex $$ made off on the float of those checks.
  20. You'll have to clear outgoing immigration & security at the airport, it can be a long wait to get processed.
  21. We did this during Spring Break this year, but from the south (Diamond Head-72) to north 83. Note at that time there was road work south of Turtle Bay on 83 that had 30+ minute waits.
  22. Been researching this myself. Most cc reviews say you have to eventually charge the full amount of your trip on your card.
  23. There's the KCC Farmers Market nearby. Saturdays only 730ish to 11 am. Green Line #5. Great place to go grazing for lunch. Lots of finger food, bring handi-wipes 😎
  24. We were there in the Spring; the touristy thing is and it isn't, but its all included with the price of admission. In the Tahiti pavilion EVERYONE in the audience is in a boys v gals hula dance off. The luau buffer is a dinner show, the show goes on while you eat. Then there's the HA Breath of Life show that's on later in the amphitheater. You can go to the Gateway Buffet or graze in the Marketplace (food trucks and stalls) until show time. There might be other venues for the a luau, but you shouldn't miss the HA show if you go. Note there is no alcoholic beverages in the PCC. It's owned operated by the LDS and a lot of the employees are students from BYU-Hawaii next door.
  25. There is no age restriction in California to be summoned. However 70+ can be excused for a medical condition without a doctor's note.
