  1. There must be some people who fall for the non sale offerings otherwise why do they continue to do it. I think Virgin has a great sale on Resilient Lady half price during the January school holidays, because they don't have any children on board.
  2. Not that Sydney doesn't have a lot of cultural offerings, just Melbourne is better. All the great musical theatre goes to Melbourne before Sydney. In Brisbane, they just knocked everything down. They kept the facade of the beautiful Regent Theatre on the Mall. I remember someone swinging across the audience from the stage, music in the interval, Newsreels news, as well as the movie. Plus cigarette girls with free cigarettes on trays to give to patrons. Can you believe it?
  3. Thought the same, Lucky I'm from farming stock, early to bed, early to rise. I love empty ships in the wee hours. When we are coming into port, I watch the pilot board the ship. Last time I cruised to Darwin, I heard the "rope guys" say they must be training the driver after no cruising during Covid.
  4. Yes I agree you must have been rich. Sounds like you had wonderful family holidays. Bon Voyage for Coral Princess. I remember we always stayed with family on holidays. We used to travel north on the Sunlander annually to Mackay and the islands. I caught the Greyhound and bus to Sydney and did one overnight bus trip to Sydney, I moved the wardrobe to block the front door on that overnight trip, which is another story, I was the first member of my family who flew. We were poor but I didn't know it. I went to the local State School like everyone else. The boys wore no shoes, the girls wore sandals. In our final primary school year, our Head Teacher volunteered teaching the grade 7 students preparing us for Scholarship Examination. This was the level most local children at the school went to.
  5. That is good news indeed, Medical experts say Covid is going to peak at Christmas.
  6. Oh yes I forgot about the front bench seat. Did you used to stop at parks with play equipment en route. We did. What kind of accomodation did you stay with a family of six?
  7. Thanks for the laugh this morning. Asking whether you need separate ETAs for both NZ and Aust is like asking whether you would need separate ETAs for Canada and USA. Tipping customs top the list.
  8. Thanks Terry I think Melbourne is better than Sydney for culture.
  9. I went to a Senior's Great Britain Concert in our beautiful City Hall this month Disappointed it wasn't the traditional Rule Britannia concert. Last year we even had small British flags like The Proms. The young married couple of musical theatre singers were excellent though. The BCC puts on free Concerts for Seniors in the City Hall on Tuesdays.
  10. I still have all my AA maps and accommodation books. Oh the joys of long distance car trips with kids in the back. How did your family fit four? They didn't have the extra row of seats in 1982. My girlfriend had three children. The youngest had to sit in the middle of the back seat and look straight ahead, not look out the older two's windows!! I had two girls with the Esky in the middle of the back seat. Decided two was a good number without buying a bigger car.
  11. I did see Trivia during my research. I'll see if I can find it again.
  12. Sounds a delicious choice. On the cruise I was on they had a special Indian Night. The waiters told me it was authentic and what they ate. I ordered the Indian meal on Carnival Luminosa every time it was on the menu. My daughter is currently flying with Qatar. She ordered the Meze Platter. You cant go wrong if you order the local food.
  13. I love that GPS when I'm overseas or Sydney. We got one from Aldis when they first came out. We took a scenic route south to Melbourne. We laughed all the way as it tried to tell you to drive through the bush on non existent roads.
  14. William McInnes has a new book "Yeah, Nah" A lingo of our own.
  15. yes I meant all old countries. I had visited USA many times before I visited Scandinavia. I remember saying you've got barns just like America. The farmer replied they have barns like ours. Seems they had immigrated to the US from Scandinavia.
  16. Interesting how language evolves. There are parts of the US where they still use some of the language from the "Old Country".
  17. Isn't it always the way? thank you i look forward to seeing the photo.
  18. Thanks for photos. looks huge Looking forward to being there 13/14.1.24.
  19. My grandmother called togs bathers (English bathing costume). NSW called them Cosis.
  20. Back to cruising, Annette and Jimmy spent their lives cruising the world with a huge metal trunk. I was asked whether I would like it, but what would I do with a huge trunk.
  21. Our tilly which I can picture, where I sat in the back with my cousins on our long day trips to Bribe Island, had a small round front. It was a squash for three adults to sit on the bench seat in the front. My first car was a Hillman Minx station wagon, which used to belong to Annette and Jimmy. It was his pride and joy. He used to drive it to the footpath and back, when he could no longer renew his licence.
  22. I think there are so many different names for togs because Aussies live in the water at the beach or in dams and rivers in the bush. Annette Kellerman, the long distance swimmer, pushed for women to wear practical swimsuits. She cut off the bottom of the men's swimsuits. She became known as the "million dollar mermaid" and a movie was made of her life. She was my great aunt's sister.
  23. How are you feeling? Did you enjoy your Mekong Delta Tour? What was "Saigon's New Port" like? Were other cruise ships there?.
  24. You must be a Queenslander, otherwise you'd be taking your cosi swimming costume. i didn't call a marker a nikko. However I have lots of hand made duchess sets in my linen press.
