  1. It was beyond expectations. The guide was excellent almost a historian. To be able to sit there would have been enough. But to be able to see the Golden Altar close up was a wowza.
  2. I actually stayed at the Doubletree Stone Street. The location is excellent. If the price is less expensive than the other choices it’s good. The only issue is that the elevators are terrible. You sometimes have to wait longer than you want.
  3. At 6:30 pm a smaller daytripper type boat picked us all up to ferry across the canal to St Marks Basilica for a private entrance for the Uniworld pax only. Amazing once in a lifetime experience. We were able to view the original crypt and also the golden altar encrusted with jewels.

  6. Hi everyone! I’m thrilled to be onboard after not cruising since 2019. It’s like riding a bike, you recall easily. Lol Fabulous time during the precruise portion. We have already met a bunch of great folks from that portion. I’ll try to post a couple pics everyday, mostly to give others the idea what to expect on this itinerary. Milan pics I’ll post later. View from our cabin And thanks everyone for your good wishes
  7. It depends on the itinerary and the cruiseline. Many times you have the afternoon free to explore on your own or there are optional excursions. Sometimes there are two included excursions, one before lunch, one after. Once in awhile there are full day excursions. It is important to read the day to day itineraries closely when comparing cruiselines and their itineraries.
  8. New York Restaurant Week is July 24 - Aug 20th. Register your MasterCard and you’ll get a $10 credit every time you spend $40. Also a $10 credit for using NJT Details at Priceless.com
  9. The 9/11 memorial is in the “financial district” of Manhattan if you are using a search. Since the pandemic rooms are less expensive down there. You can walk to 9/11 memorial, World Trade Center, and Statue Viewing points from there. Also Stone Street with moderately priced eateries. It’s an easy ride up to the pier with taxi or Uber. Hyatt is always a solid brand. If you’re using points or happy with the price keep it. Give us the exact date and we can give you other ideas.
  10. Hotel Columbina. It’s a small boutique hotel, located near the Bridge of Sighs on a small canal. Breakfast included.
  11. Enjoy your cruise, but in the meanwhile research other cruiselines here.
  12. Great target marketing on Avalon’s part.
  13. Welcome to the River Cruise fan club! You described why most of us enjoy River Cruises.
  14. C’mon. One can’t compare the number of hotel rooms around Met Life stadium to the availability in Manhattan and boros.
  15. I see tourists riding those Citibikes in midtown without helmets 🫣. Riding along First Ave near the turn into the Midtown Tunnel. I think the double decker busses are safe enough. Just as safe as those Bolt busses by the Javitts Center.
  16. Very interesting discussion. Thanks for all the replies. Thank you @cruisemom42 for the menu. I have my eye on a frozen Florian or a frozen tiramisu. 😁.
  17. You make an important point. That’s why research is so important. Not only in Ve
  18. One can easily book a nice hotel in the area and Uber or taxi to the pier for less than NCL charges. Plus you don’t have to wait for 50 other passengers to get on the bus.
  19. I’m just going to have a drink (or two lol) to soak up the ambience. I’ll eat on the ship, already paid for. 😁
  20. Hi! I haven’t been on any cruise or done any international travel in 4 years. I’m a little rusty but fingers crossed everything will be fine. 🤞🤞🤞 We leave July 26. Thanks for listening.
  21. Hi. If you’ve been to either Harry’s Bar for cocktails or Cafe Florian did you enjoy the experience. Yes I know it’s expensive. Lol Did you feel it was an authentic Venitian experience?
  22. Don’t worry. Even in the very unlikely event there are no spaces, everyone but the driver can be dropped off at the entrance with the luggage. Then the driver walks back the 1 or 2 blocks. I’d plan on arriving around 10:30. This gives the disemarking passengers time to leave the occupied parking spaces.
  23. Thank you @Fishboy1947 I made my reservations for Fondaco dei Tedeschi rooftop! Great tip. It was so easy to do in English.
  24. It’s up to you you but maybe just have Hertz fill up the car. I know it’s highway robbery but might be worth it this time.
