  1. It’s easy to take the ferry to St George and Hamilton from the dockyard so that wouldn’t be the worst thing. The huge ships are too big to dock at Hamilton and St George. I remember the good old days too, just meandering off the ship.
  2. I wouldn’t do it unless it was very inexpensive.
  3. Wait until you get on board and speak to the cruise director if you still have a question. How much extra Pp is it actually? If you tip 1 Euro per excursion for a ten day cruise it will be 20 Euros pp if you include bus driver. 40 Euros a couple. Then one needs to break down the cost of the Scenic or Tauck cruises. I wouldn’t lose sleep over it.
  4. No gratuities not included for guides or drivers. We gave a couple of Euros to the guide and driver if we felt they did an excellent job which was almost always.
  5. The dress code is “suggested”. It’s not like anyone will tell you to go and change.
  6. Wow that is a huge difference. I hope you get it adjusted.
  7. There might be no “requirement” to speak, but the culture of River Cruises is that you make new acquaintances and have a polite conversation if you are sharing a table. Socializing is part of the experience. If having a table for two is a “requirement” then River Cruising probably is not for you. We always have the pleasure of meeting new and interesting people on our cruises. The pre dinner cocktail hour is a big part of River Cruises also. It is almost impossible to sit by yourself. If your wife can’t hear others I’m not sure she’ll be able to hear you either.
  8. I’d love a Christmas Markets thread! It’s on my list.
  9. I read your review, very well done. This is the first I’m hearing about the Travel Marvel brand.
  10. The Ryder’s Cup will be in my backyard next year on Long Island. Bethpage Black Public Nassau County Golf Course. Why no take a leaf peeping cruise up to Canada and then see the Ryders Cup? It’s not far from Manhattan. Maybe 25 miles.
  11. Our guide on our land extension suggested to order a White Port and tonic as a cocktail. I tried it and was my drink during the entire cruise. Very refreshing.
  12. I’d just go by Uber or Lyft. Less aggravation. You’re on vacation.
  13. Hi. Can you post pics? How did you like the food and tours. Were the tours in English? Also how did you extend your cruise? What was the itinerary?
  14. Gosh Lois I’m sorry you had such bad luck with your flight home. But I’m glad you were able to have a good night’s sleep. I hope your cruise was great besides that part.
  15. I use my phone on airplane mode on River Cruises. You sign onto wifi and you’re good to go. You call or message anyone back home normally. No charge as long as you are on wifi. The ship has wifi and many cafes in towns give you wifi code. If you want to message Europeans use WhatsApp. It’s widely used there.
  16. Great review. I’m glad you enjoyed your first River Cruise and are looking forward to more.
  17. You didn’t buy paprika or try the palenka? We loved the marketplace in 2018 it was authentic. No big supermarkets. This is how locals shop. Maybe because I’m from NY I was impressed. lol
  18. I’m glad you reported back and enjoyed all of your tours. We took this tour in 2018 and I see they cut back a bit. What I’m sorry to see you missed were the two nights in Vienna. The first night to the Vienna Woods for wine. It was my favorite excursion. It left after dinner. So much fun with everyone on the cruise. In Durnstein it was a walking tour and then after free time wine tasting. Did any of the Budapest tours go to Fisherman’s Bastion? Or the Marketplace? Our tour went there.
  19. Re Uniworld and Laundry. If you are a repeat passenger of Uniworld, you receive one bag of laundry washed and pressed free.
  20. There might be a few extra excursions that have a fee but it would depend on the itinerary. Almost everything on Uniworld is included.
  21. Avalon is a great cruiseline. Our first RC was in Avalon on the Seine and we loved it. The tours were excellent. Avalon is part of the Globus tours so they have very good guides. The Normandy Landing excursion was outstanding. Avalon is not all inclusive, but you only need to add gratuities and alcoholic beverages. Wine with meals is included. We recommend Avalon to some friends who were first time River Cruisers and wanted to visit Normandy Landing beaches. It exceeded their expectations. Definitely plan a pre or post stay in Paris on your own.
  22. By those who are from the area and know that those properties are used for emergency housing for homeless families by NYC.
