  1. hoping to read a Gen X review for a less ornate ship of this cruise line. This ship reminds of photos of early Carnival ships def not our style.. our on ship prefrences include relaxing, enjoyment of the spa ,thermal suites..T pools views of the sea and night sky, healthy food. and good music and shows. Pampering is also nice but not "overboard"..We found on Beyond that having an "attentive" Butler fussing over us was a bit too much! but i am very much enjoying the review. even if it convinces me that X AQ Class is still our best fit!
  2. thanks for understanding of visual.issues... and love your sense of humor .. have not seen any pics of great art so far..the wall of lipstick pics was def not my style. .. On X (esp E class) we have appreciated the curated art..taken the art tours and enjoyed discovering new artsts.. yes dome of the art on X is wierd but can be thought provoking I also find the botanical collections on X quite interesting.... not not easy caring for plants at sea..
  3. Been there done that...On EDGE we had the Inf Balc in AQ.. and used the extra space for a cozy seating area,., BLU was in a bad spot on EDGE and had NO views and poor acoustics...but Not so on BEYOND. It was changed in design and there were very. nice views..great food and service ( preferable to Luminae)..brighter decor than Luminae Hoping it will be the same on Ascent! We def enjoyed the suite perks and the larger stateroom and storage, but the pvt pool was crowded some days as were the suite bars and we saw lots of wasted space..just our opinion. Not the best choice for us... We now look forward to BLU and Thermal suite access We also had an amazing middle Sunset Veranda on EDGE for a diff cruise ..large room, huge aft outdoor balc..and amazing 4 mdrs. Have not had a bad cruise yet (since Mercury) with X so hope the cutbacks do not change that outcome..PLanning on Fine Cut and EDEN..
  4. We were on BEYOND in Nov..not much to complain about. We were in suite class first time.( using up.our fcc) ...It was very nice, but I am looking forward to being back in AQ Class with BLU... and daily access to the Thermsl suite. There were a few issues with the automatic doors in various spots..Getting locked in or teased by an unending open snd close cycle esp in Luminae was a bit nerve wracking but hopefully that's been fixed!
  5. great photos. were the mashed potatoes made fresh? vs a mix? any extra chg for that juicy looking burger via rm svc? were the fries crisp?
  6. grab sunset true veranda with 4 mdrs A much nicer cabin.. BLU on EDGE has no views..bad acoustics.. caveat..if u want the thermal suite daily stick with AQ class!
  7. nice bar( shaded) and lunch at the hilton..easy walk..small beach..views of sll the ships! the day pass is not worth it..pool water not heated...
  8. still loving this review.. great style! outstanding photos of San Juan..never knew about the kitties! agree abt passing on purchase at the Coach outlet.... how many can we really use? we also pick 1 port as stay on board day..The ship is essentially all yours Good choice!
  9. Food looked good and plentiful Scallops this week in Fl were among the highest priced seafood...prices are out of control! Have you browsed the regular buffet in comparison to X? What do regular cabins cruisers do for dining? Is there a spa class or healthy dining like AQ? Did you book any spa? Sorry so many ques? We would not do a Gaudy Glitzy ship but some of the others look nice! I do not think you would enjoy Cunard...we loved it but not much party!
  10. I Personally cannot get past GAUDY ! (And bordello bedroom!) Also difficult for folks like me who have visual issues..bad 3nough are the walj throughs on E Class ships..Creepy Forest et.
  11. you have focused on what I was wondering about...ornate decorl .Can u overlook it or is it a distraction? We are not Hoppen fans but do like a sleek look.. Also, is it crowded in the suite area only places?
  12. the ones served in Luminae on BEYOND recently were minis.. very sweet and tasty but never saw ones that tiny. At best not a meal. they may have served 2 on the plate along with something else??? maybe diff restaurants have diff sizes? the shrimp cocktail ( no upcharge,) in Luminae was slimy with sauce tasting like ketchup. We tried it in BLU..bigger fresher firm shrimp and a grest sauce.. Guess it all depends! we do not plan on paying extra for any dining rm food orders or rm service.. (other than the extra fee for Fine Cut and or EDEN..hoping that will be worth it )
  13. thanks for the pics...you are really doing a great job... .Buffet not too bad looking but no thank you on the Tilapia! glad we will be in BLU on Ascent..plus one or 2 nights at Specialty..
  14. great treat for lunch..enjoyed it on EDGE..excellent menu, esp soup. at the time we had great food service and wine service, bread , desserts..lovely view, quiet seems price has increased but worth 1 visit.(.would do that over petite chef) also has deli sams to go (charge)
  15. we appreciate the posted info but agree there's nothing that beats Fri night at the diner .too many heavy duty upcharges for the better soundlng dishes. Our last experiences dining on Royal in MDR were very disappointing..poor service, badly cooked lower quality food.. downscale...and this fits the mold! even the Specialty rest were just ok..like the Celeb mdr
  16. We stopped at Mazatlan yrs ago on a cruise. Saw a show and a few other highlights. Our gen observation was it was not such a great port....even back then...
  17. Great review! After seeing the pics we may add EDEN to our specialty dining wish list! Hope you continue having fun and share with us!
  18. Rooms are not bad and more up to date than ES from what we recall. Used to be our go to place but then switched to ES for Hilton pts.
  19. Actually, I was wrong in my comment..we do have young pigeons here, but I was thinking of Quail which we have seen on Celeb menus in the past. They equate to the bob white that are free in our backyard..Fla USA Hope the dinner buffet does not disappoint! As for Beyond Luminae, I managed with salmon, other fish and the tiny but sweet lobster tails..Our best meal on board was dinner in BLU
  20. Hyatt Pl 17th st Good idea..short walk to all the same shops and restaurants as ES. Nice but small pool area, ok wifi and small but workable breakfast buffet ..we may look into this for next yr
  21. Off topic..I guess Celebrity under the tutelage of Royal C.... has come up with many cutbacks on its own..no need to extract more ideas from the " victims". How about ideas to bring X back up to its previous high standards? Starting with mdr dining... full menus, full service and a decent res system...? Room service at no cost during reg restaurant hrs? Full buffet for lunch and dinner..staff to serve and cook special items?
